Oldest surviving Nikon was sold at an auction for $406k
Discuss...
Also the Occupied Japan thing makes this an actual American product. So Nikon is more American than Canon?

I think color looks better. Nail polish does feel out of place though. I feel like it should be black.

ATM I do not have a "real" camera, but I enjoy taking pics on my smartphone, the droid turbo

I'll be getting the Pixel in a couple weeks and wonder if you guys have any tips for me? In terms of what manual options I can use on a phone, if any lens kits are anything other than a gimmick, and general framing and photography advice. Please be harsh since I know I don't fucking know anything

Hey guys,

It'll be my first time shooting fashion photography, and in a studio.

Pic related

My question is, how can I make the most of it using my gear of a Nikon D5000, with three different types of lenses:

- 35mm Nikkor
- Vivitar 55-105mm
- 55-200mm Nikkor

Any tips and tricks?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Well what are you shooting for/what's your goal there? When shooting editorial I like to stick with the same focal length (35mm FF equiv) unless I've planned ahead for it but even then I don't use two similar focal lengths like 35 and 50 in the same story.

Are you using strobes? Are you comfortable with working with your camera and multiple strobes?

Do you have a long USB cable? Your camera can be shot tethered if you have a laptop to bring.
>>
>>2974838
>shot tethered

I don't have strobes, nor anything else unfortunately.

All I have are those three lenses and nothing else.

I might be unprepaired, but I'm pretty sure there must be a way of setting this right.

You seem to have extensive knowledge of the problematic, and to clarify, this is just a normal casual fashion shoot for an upcoming "fashion blog".
>>
You're shit, you don't know shit, your photos are going to be shit.

Better start doing some reading.

getting depressed with how generic my style has come to
i started on a canon ae-1 and grew to love the grainy look as well as its dramatic shadows, since then i've moved onto using a sony a6000 and try imitate the look on lightroom
generally just becoming bored with how i edit all my pictures, so i'd love some critiques on what i can change

i'll be posting what i consider my best pictures

How do you get HD video out of an iphone?

I tried drop box (compressed beyond shit).
I tried email (compressed beyond shit).
I tried connecting the usb to my laptop (Apple won't let you see any of the files on the Iphone).
I tried buying Filmic and setting the resolution to 4k (compressed beyond shit).

What the fuck man?
Didn't someone make a fucking hollywood movie (Tangerine) on a fucking Iphone?

Younger brother just bought a DSLR cause he wants to get into photography.

>older 50D with a 50mm 1.4 is what I have

How to tell if my camera body is too old and needs to be updated? Maybe it's a fluke with the focus? Fuck.

Is it possible that the SL1 is geared more towards JPEGs whereas maybe the 50D is meant to be shot in RAW and then processed?

Also did he shoot it in one of the auto modes? Are you shooting manually?

>Fuji XT2/XPRO2 + 56mm APD

Hey Fuji bros, I am trying to get some info on how the 56mm performs AF wise on the new XT2 and XPRO2 cameras.

I currently have an XT1 and am wanting to purchase the a 56mm for portraits. I have read about the loss off phase detect AF on the APD version but I am curious how it performs on the newer cameras that have much better AF than my XT1.

I would be using the lens for both studio and environmental portraits that also includes street portraits during the night so AF is really a big deciding factor.

Also interested in seeing images shot with either 56mm lens, if it's not in the metadata please let me know which version it was shot with.

>BONUS ROUND

I have heard the 60mm macro is an epic portrait lens that can rival the 56mm.. But have also heard that macro lenses aren't great for portraits in general (why?) also interested in any thoughts on this. THANKS.

If you're doing portraits at night, you should know that the APD actually has lower light collection due to the filter at larger apertures, so you'll need to compensate for that.

My regular 56 does alright on my XPro2 on the contrast detection points with good light (it's never been a fast-focusing lens). Just did a test shot with indoors lighting and dark room (with only light coming in from other rooms, kind of how I figure a street at night might be and it found focus on 2-4 seconds.

Regarding the 60mm macro lens: It is a pretty sharp lens, but it is painfully slow to focus, especially so in low light. Fine for studio, but it will be a painful experience on a dimly lit street. Expect to wait over 6 seconds for it to find focus.

I also have an XP2 and the non-APD 56. I can back what the other anon said up, the 56 isn't a fast-focusing lens in anybody's book, but it IS generally quite accurate. It may take a few seconds to focus, but it almost always gets it right once it's done.

I wish I had more examples to post but I've been in a slump for the last year and haven't done many shoots.
