Whats the worst sin in photography?
I hate it when they do shit like in the image I linked. I even see professionals do it, and sometimes in movies.

One of the worst sin would be to believe that arbitrarily following technical rules precedes artistic purpose.

I can't stand that backwards looking room, but I find a lot of photographers don't really have something to 'say'. they'll take a photo of something that interests them, yet beyond being visually pleasing, it doesn't do much else.
I don't like the air-brushed to shit photos I see everywhere, where post-production has created this soulless, flat image.
I'm still new, but I was really disappointed to find a lot of photographers that inspired me basically whacked a VSCO filter over top, played with the hue/contrast a tiny bit and then called it a day. Professionals too. I can replicate the exact thing.

I'm a noob when it comes to photography so how would you describe this photo?
To me it looks a bit cinematic like a shot from a Paul Thomas Anderson film...
It's shit

Thanks for your insight.
Hey, filmfags.
I have an old Pentax Super ME with center weighted metering. How am I supposed to control my exposure accurately using this piece of trash? Should I burn 150 clams on an old light meter with spot capabilites?
Summed up: photographing without spot metering is like trying to fuck with half a pen0r.

>am I supposed to control my exposure accurately using this piece of trash?
There's the actual question you should be looking to answer. Center-weighted metering is for having a pretty good guess, and having to paste your artistic vision on top.
>>3040429
but also i will say, yeah. get a meter. they are intensely useful pieces of equipment.
Hey guys, I've been using Squarespace for 3 years now and my annual subscription is almost due for renewal. I love Squarespace because it's so simple and the support is really good in my experience. Unfortunately, every man and their fucking mother have a Squarespace site these days and it's become so stock standard. So my question is, are there any alternative services I can use to build a new website?

Depends what you want it for and what effort you are willing to put into it..
I use squarespace for my business website, if it looks like everyone elses website thats fine as long as it looks clean and professional which it does.
Though I dont use it for my own website, I instead just use wordpress.. It looks way more minimal/artsyfarsty and works great.. I do not have the skills to make it look and act like a business website though (it is basically a gallery/blog with contact info)
format themes look like paid wordpress themes except its a monthly subscription.. I wouldnt recommend it unless you are totally incompetent.
Check it out though you can get a month free.

Thanks, I was thinking of doing a Wordpress site, I will look more into it.

My sis has an iPhone camera that points and shoots and does a great job regardless of lighting etc. My wife has a Z2 which I think has decent hardware, bit she'd have to fiddle with settings to get the same results.
I assume it's all software making those adjustments on the fly.
Is there an android camera app that gets similar results- handles all the tweaking for you?
Tl:Dr, I'd like a smarter (read dumbed down for the user) camera automatic mode for my android

Nope
After nikon makes the D900. There will be no number left for other cameras.
D1000 would be a low end model as it has 4 digits.
Canon numbers are much better.
Canon 5d mk XXXXXXX
It can go on to the end of times.

Great thread.
Important topic.

wtf this thread really made me think.
thick post OP, great content.
After the D900, Nikon will announce it's going out of business, therefore letting the king of photography finally step up and take over.

Good afternoon /p/,
It's been a good while since I've made a thread and I have some new stuff to share while I'm between trips. I took a trip to California last month and have some other stuff to share. Maybe I'll even get around to developing the black and whites sometime this week and I'll have more to share then.
I'll start with this one from Death Valley, the most unreal and huge mud cracks I've ever seen on Velvia 50.

Great, another faggot shows up.
I've also been working on getting a drum scanner up and running and finally have results to share. It's been a heck of a process acquiring the machine, getting it halfway across the country (it weighs nearly 600 lbs), and then getting it working. Now I've gotten rather proficient at fluid mounts and have learned some of the additional features of the scanner. This this is no Epson flatbed on so many levels.
Getting it working required a lot of technical experience in which my last career of working on German cars was rather helpful, especially when using the diagnostic software written by German dudes from the 90's. The software is slow but intuitive, you need to use a Power Mac G4, but if you turn off all the auto features you get an outstanding scan of slides. I'll be posting a few old favorites that I've re-scanned as I edit them.
Here's a scan of Provia that was rather unusable on the flatbed. If you've seen this image from me before it's because the other shot was on Ektar from the same morning. I'll try to put some comparisons in this thread eventually. For the time being I'm waiting on some more RAM to show up for my computer in a few days. The 2gb files take absolutely forever to work on with only 8gb of RAM.

I dont know how you sorted this all out, photoshopping the glass shard perhaps. But If i were you id move the eyes over so that the face of the girl facing you, her hair matches up in the line of her forehead to her nose, it would just look more smooth, then you could crop it so her eyes are still in the middle of the picture.
Because right now that shit is irking me and it doesnt have the right feeling. That line of her hair is super obvious. Overall right now Its just to basic and kitschy, gimmick shit. This is a 'trippy concept' but It needs werk

Dust, plus no point. Modular viewfinders weren't popular even in film's day.
The most "pro" today is probably Canon, in terms of system range, build quality in the top tier, and reliability and quality of their professional services. Nikon would be a close second.
>>3038921
sorry, I meant to write "what is the best professional Film System camera?"
>>3038922
Answer is still Canon unless you're talking manual focus, which is then Nikon for 35mm, hasselblad for medium format.
Why does Fujifilm make such terrible cameras and lenses?
I borrowed my sister's new X-T2 and a few primes and every picture is a chromatic abomonation, has shit for brains rendering, and terrible ISO performance.
Aren't they an early adopter of mirrorless? How do they make such garbage, do they even bother with R&D? My Sony a6000 is light years ahead of their trash with the kit lens.
This shit was built for numales and girls with problem glasses.

Fuji don't aim they're products at photographers, they're for casual use and old fucks.
They actually actively discourage people that know what the fuck they're talking about from using them by refusing to put out algorithms for xtrans forcing people to use sooc jpegs and silkypix.
And their lenses, there's not a single one that you could refer to as "professional" quality.
It's just gimmicky retro hipster shit for people that don't know what the fuck they're doing.
>>3038340
Fair answer. I guess my assumption that it was for numales and girls with problem glasses was right. When I was shooting with it the camera felt like reddit: the camera.
>>3038335
Because Fuji is smart.
Their target market is soccer moms and GWC.
Most people can't tell the difference between a kit lens and a Canon L lens, so why put the effort? All they have to do is make it better than a cellphone, which is all it gets compared to.
So,they make a camers that looks cool, and has decent on paper specs.
Then they tack ridiculously wide aperture numbers on their lenses, even shen they perform like shit until stepoed down.
To the average user, their 56mm f 1.2 outperforms every other 50mm because it is 1.2. Ethey don't realize it performs terribly until stepped down to f 8.
post pictures of birds you've taken.
