Man, I've felt this way about just about everything in my life. Skateboarding, playing guitar, chasing girls, drawing, and so on.
For some reason photography and videography are the one thing where every time I do a shoot, I feel more inspired to shoot more.
redpill me on shooting in harsh sunlight. (because that's all I'm getting these days, no fucking clouds in sight)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plHReqpPfeM
thought I don't do portraiture, mostly shots of things I find in the city (statues, old fucked up buildings and stuff)
either shoot at a different time or find some shade you autist
>>3045379
the time between HARSH and NO LIGHT is fucking short here. also, I can't find "shade" if the subject is in an open environment with nothing in the vicinity to provide it shade.
It really is too bad no one has come up with an affordable, portable system that would let you either filter harsh sunlight to soften it up, or reflect it back to a model to fill in shadows. It would be even greater if there were say...5 different options that you could use.

Hi /p/, I've a question, is it possible to do your own negatif ? I mean here is my idea : we can find how to make wet plate collodion, can we imagine doing the same shit on films ?
You would have to build bigger tanks, but nothing impossible theoretically, right ?
Not asking about the price, just asking if this could be something doable and usable on regular cameras ?

>>3047734
Good Q bro and I think you can but it's fucking impossible.
I did some research a while back after I got confident making my own developer, my buddy that runs a community darkroom said that making your own emulsions is where the big bucks are. You can do the wet plate collodial with some proficiency, but that is an involved process and takes skill to get right.
35mm film, or even 120 film, I'd imagine, is impossible, because you'd need to make all of this shit in the dark, and in a precise manner. All of this stuff is now automated and it makes no sense whatsoever to even attempt making your own 35mm film.

By "I think you can", I mean "I think you can try", but it's impossible.

Hey guys
My gf is looking to buy a camera and I thought I'd ask here for advice
She hasn't had a camera before, but I've tought her everything about using one, so when using mine (which is fully manual), she gets excellent results, so I'm confident that she get a pro level dslr
I was thinking something like a used 5D mk ii would be ideal for her
Do you have any recommendations?
Her budget is around £800
>>3047425
You can get an a7ii for 800 if you shop around, it looks more girly, ibis to compensate her feminine wrists, evf because it's easier, best image quality.
>>3047425
>would be ideal for her
>She hasn't had a camera before
I'd recommend to just get her the new iphone. Much more usefull than gearfagging crap she won't ever need.

>You can get an a7ii for 800 if you shop around
no you can't
How do I protect my system/photos from data degradation and bit rot? I have it running in a faraday cage with a primary SSD mirrored by a RAID0 HDD array, both ssd snd hdd array changed every six months, and an emergency redunancy high speed SD flash card memory array changed every quarter. It feels like I'm in a constant battle to maintain data integrity and I feel like my process is only barely cutting it.
Would it be worth it to invest in a UPS/generator protected ECC ram drive NAS unit, or does the network transfer risk further data degradation?

You need an industrial grade turbo-encabulator to minimise the degradation caused due to planetary rotational velocidensity while storing digital datas.
>>3047325
Rotational velocidensity did this. I stored this camera JPG file on a burnt CD for 2 years in an airconditioned room.

yeah good luck with your equilibrium deficiency caused by over exertion to the data files, fucking noob
Need a good compact camera that takes good pictures at night.
Going back to Japan this summer. Didn't like how a lot of my night shots turned out on my iphone 6
I'm jealous, haven't been to Japan since '09 and really want to go again.
What's your budget and how compact does the camera need to be? The Sony RX100 series is the most popular choice, but you could also consider a Fuji X100 or X70. (I think the X70 would be an ideal Japan camera but it has a fixed lens.)
>>3047314
Ricoh GR or Fuji X70.
iphone 7, 6+ isn't bad
Is ``loving the tones'' an Instagram meme?
Can't tell if this dude's being facetious or not.
>>3047211
Yes. Which tones? Pícture is ugly as fuck.
>>3047211
instagram is a meme
"Tones" predates Instagram. I started seeing it trotted out around these parts circa '09.
It is super memetic, however, and no one can explain exactly what they mean when they say it. It's just a generic "hey I like your light bro".
hey /p/
been hanging around /fgt/ for a while now answering and even asking a few questions.
thought i'd contribute a bit to the board.
a little about my /p/ background:
i first picked up my dad's camera when i was about 10
started doing my own processing and printing in HS around 1996.
have been doing my own images start to finish ever since.
these are all scans of photgraphic prints.
i've never really digitized my stuff and all this was done on a potato tier scanner and edited with iPhoto
no major post processing here, just enough to stay true to the originals
