Ive got my first night club gig tomorrow night so I went out and rented a nikon sb-5000 for my d7000.
What would be the best settings to use this flash for nightclub shots of the guests.
I'll def be shooting mani without it for when I wanna get a lil artsy. I just never find myself using flash so Im a total noob. Please give me the crash course.
Pic related the kinda photos I normally take.

Set your flash into TTL position and your camera into AUTO mode.
>>3053567
First off, lol that OP pic.
Second, why did you take this gig if you have no idea how to shoot it?
>>3053567
Typically when I'm at a nightclub I don't like some shitty photographer flashing his flash in my face while I'm trying to get laid.
The power of light room, before it just looked like a bland photo of a cloud, anyone else use lightroom? I just got into it yesterday

How do you guys make your surroundings fresh again for photography? Been stuck in the same area of a while now and feel like I've already shot everything there is.
I'm not really a fan of photographing people so how do I bring old surroundings new life? Cuz as of now I don't even enjoy taking photographs anymore because it's always the same stuff.
Or is this just a problem with me?
>>3053453
>I'm not really a fan of photographing people
Why? What do you dislike about it?
so how do I bring old surroundings new life?
You can shoot the old surroundings in different conditions (weather, time, etc), or use an IR filter to shoot your surroundings and give it a different look.
>Cuz as of now I don't even enjoy taking photographs anymore because it's always the same stuff.
You could also just... go shoot new places. Shoot local events.
>Or is this just a problem with me?
I stopped shooting for like 2 years because I was unmotivated. Idk if it happens to everyone but you're not the only one.

As to why I don't like photographing people, I'm not sure. I guess it's mainly because I never have anyone too photograph. Out where I'm at now I don't have any friends and I feel uncomfortable paying to get a model or asking someone. It's just weird I guess, I don't know.
I don't really even like photographing people at random on the street or off in the distance. I've never understood why people think photographing other people is so interesting. People are boring in my opinion. We are all relatively the same. There is no deep meaning in someones face.
There's a scene at the beginning of the new Godzilla movie with handheld footage shot from a camera with a Japanese HUD. I know nothing about Japanese camera's, what are my options for a camera with a Japanese HUD???
I can order off Yahoo Auction JP, or Rakuten or something.
Kids these days really are stupid.

I find the camera information but all in Japanese, adds a coolness to the recording.

Was looking for a nice home-feel indoor location for a small fashion shoot. Initially thought of booking a hotel room, but friend suggested airbnb. Looked it up and it yielded more affordable locations that suit my needs. Any photographers here used airbnb for shoots before? Would appreciate advice on approaching this, thanks.
Do you think that the house owners would be alright with you doing a photoshoot on their property? Would you get them to sign a contract?
Or are you simply here to advertise AirBNB - the subject of several posts on /p/ in the last few days.

Hello guys.
Is it possible, and if so how, to scan my negatives in a flatbed scaner? I,ve been looking around the web for some time now and I've got no definite answer so I've decided to check with you.
This should be in /fgt/.
Most consumer flatbed scanners won't be able to, they basically can't scan at a high enough quality. Some mid - higher end flatbed scanners are made to scan film though. So when looking online generally cheaper flatbeds won't, more expensive will. I don't use flatbed scanners so I have no actual experience.
>>3052131
what is the "okay" enough DPI?
>>3052134
No clue ask in /fgt/ this should be closed.
I might want to get into film photography, is this damn thing alright for a first film camera? I'm just asking because it's really fucking cheap like $15 to $50 for the FED 3's to FED 5's. Should I even try to be aiming for this budget? I really don't want to spend more.
If you look around you can get a cheap Nikon SLR or Pentax or Canon for 50, the FED is a junk camera past the FED2 and even those are typical Soviet build quality. If it drops you're fucked and I can count on one hand how many people on Planet Earth are any good at repairing them and most of those people live in former Soviet Bloc countries.
FEDs are good learners but there's better cameras out there for 50 bucks. I've seen FMs and K1000's under the 50 dollar mark just have to look around. Nikon FG is a good starter it's what I learned on. I had an FM years ago that I paid a whole 50 dollars for everything including 3 lenses film accessories, bag with press credentials and cleaning kit. You have to be diligent on Craigslist or eBay to find them but you can.
Any orphan system like Canon FD or Minolta MD is going to be super cheap and Minolta glass from the 70s and 80s back when Leica had their hands in their back pockets is legendary.
>>3052127
Don't fall for the soviet camera meme, they're way overpriced if you are buying them on ebay. You can get these kind of cameras for next to nothing in the excomblock nations.
>>3052127
If you are really interested it all depends on your budget. I would recommend a Nikon F3 (Best camera I have ever owned) Canon A1, if your budget is low you should get a Nikon FM or a Canon AE1. However the Canons you would have to locate a place in your town where they fix them, they tend to break down a Lot. If you want to avoid that, get a Nikon F3. That camera has lasted for the past 20 years and I bought it used. Also, learn how to just develop the film and then buy a Wolverine digitalizer or scan the pictures.
Tl;dr Step it up m80 and invest good money in a good camera.
gear focuses a lot on cameras but I never see printers discussed.
perhaps it is because there is not a lot of choice and Epson has us all by the short & curlies. After My 3800 died I picked up a p800 it works well but I am a slave to Epson's ink prices.
anyone find better printing options or ways to keep cost down?
>>3051892
Get a top quality printer and use a continuous ink system.
It's not rocket science.
Cutting your own sheets of hahnmule is a good way to reduce costs too.
Making nice mattes is the biggest ballache imo
>>3051894
I quite enjoy matte cutting, fresh blades are the key
do continuous ink systems fuck up your profiles and colour constancy ? or is that just a myth the local camera shops spread to keep people coming back?
>>3051898
You will need to profile whatever ink brand you put in, but apart from that they are much more reliable and you're not reliant on the shitty head in a disposable cartridge.
There's no point cheaping out on cis, use whatever is best for your printer. Keep everything clean and it will last a decade.
tell me why i'm shit. tell me why im good.

Yes I have the new Gronsky book. I think I posted a similar thread a couple months ago and it was recommended to me. I also have the book Formations which is nice.
Do you have any favourites from the catalog?
So I have a Rebel T5 Canon camera and in before someone gets on my ass for it but I am not in the position for an entirely new camera. I am yearning to go outside and take pictures. I am thinking of getting a new lens soon, but what are the quality lens that isn't too expensive, like over $300 or $400. That is a little outside of my budget range. I mostly want to shoot landscape and objects outside but wish to be prepared for human portraits. I really wish I had access to an entire photo studio like at my school. I just haven't had the time or right equipment to take lovely clear photographs. I wish I could just rent out a building and purchase the equipment needed for all professional looking photographs, but I can't. Advice for a novice photographer with, according to this board, a shitty digital camera that isn't get a new camera? Also, I'd post my photos here, but I am too worried about dox.
>>3047916
Unless your camera is broken don't get a new one, learn with what you have until you actually figure out what it is the new camera will do that yours currently can't.
You don't need to rent out studio space or expensive gear, just don't end up wasting your money. "Professional" photographs don't necessarily come from owning the most expensive gear. Your a novice just like you said so get good with what you have until it's really time for an upgrade.
>>3047916
If you only have the kit lens go get the canon 50mm 1.8. it'll run you about 120-150 bucks and it will be the best lens you'll ever buy (in terms of cost to performance ratio) it'll work for some landscapes and some portraits for the most part.
Don't worry too much about your camera right now. You honestly won't outgrow that camera for a long time. Just make sure you're shooting RAW and learn some of the essential tools of Lightroom for editing the photo.
>>3047928
I noticed some of my photographs look too bright as if they were taken with a phone. Is something wrong with my camera or is this mostly just due to the fact that I reside in a desert?
Also, how much does Lightroom cost again monthly?
I was also told to look into a macro lens because they go both ways, telephoto and wide angle, is this really a good route to go?
