went to rome a week ago, shot this and was happy with myself. how do I improve?
Take more shots of that same quality, basically. Given the nature of photography and cameras, any random schlub can get lucky and get one great photo like that in the right circumstances. Your circumstances were that you were in one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and you didn't fuck up the exposure. The only way to show yourself that this was talent and not random luck is to go get like ten more photos of this same quality.
Hey I went to Rome too

Why won't Fuji make full frame cameras?
They're the only people making digital cameras for photographers now but sticking to crop sensors is so dumb.
They're the only digital manufacturer that interests me right now, but I'm not gonna make the jump to digital if it's less than full frame.

i'm not super-smart on this subject, i'm not super well-informed, and someone will tell me to kill myself but
i think it's just a design decision being made to test the waters for new, future cameras (products) in the same vein as say, apple deciding to remove optical media or headphone jacks. and i think fuji has done a fine job in the case of the argument for aps-c sensors. i shoot both full-frame and aps-c, and have as of late been using my xpro2 much more for work, though not for paying clients just yet. i use full-frame because it's kind of what the client wants, but i'm finding that aps-c can deliver that same look these days, as aps-c has mostly caught up to full-frame in the ways that it physically can. the detail is negligible, especially for me as i am not a pixel peeper.

I'm moving to Europe for a couple years and am looking to buy a serious camera. I have not photography experience.
At first I thought I definitely wanted something pocketable, which led me to the Sony RX100 (mk3 probably), but then I went down the rabbit hole of looking for something better.
I want a camera good for street shooting throughout Europe and also for landscapes. I want to maximize image quality and portability. Not sure if I should go for a pocketable 1"sensor or something with an APS-C. Also not sure if I want something with a fixed lens or an interchangeable system. Ideally I'd like to stay under $800 but willing to go up to $1000 if justified.
Some of the cameras I've looked at:
-Sony RX100 iii
-Canon G7x ii
-Fuji x70
-Ricoh GR ii
-Sony a6000

Just because I love that movie.
Take a look into Fuji x100t or f
I have the Fuji x100S and I love it. If you can afford the x100F I'd definitely go for that if you don't mind the fixed focal length. Great image quality from them, looks great.
Get the a6000 you will have an upgrade path. Also don't fuck your sister
Dumping some images from my last little project. Just some night shots

How do I get good at documentary filmmaking? In particular cinematography.
I just watched Kirsten Johnson's Cameraperson in a class recently, and the ability to to capture moments in a good framing, and good settings just blows me away.
My camerawork and storytelling is OK, but it isn't anywhere near perfect.

<-- Recently got hired to run off and shoot for eight weeks straight his summer. Housing provided. I won't be getting paid much and the work will be intense but, all I'll be doing for the job is shooting video and photo every day 24/7.
We're looking at about fifty videos here, anywhere up to ten minutes long. Plus, as many photos as possible. This will be in an outdoors environment where I can't predict anything.
What should I bring?

book depository m8. Cheap as fuark but takes time to deliver.
Just got myself Luigi Ghirri's Kodachrome
not really worth organizing them all into a single image, but i've got probably around ten Robert Adams books, all three of the Eggleston boxsets, the enormous friedlander MOMA retrospective catalogue, a few Stephen Shores and Joel Sternfelds, two Alec Soths, various books by lesser known artists like Justine Kurland and Ron Jude, and some miscellaneous oddities.

it's quite nice to see a fellow Dziri with some talent, i think the gloomy vibe these images give accurately describe the life one can have there.
Why do people care about noisy auto focus in lenses?
- If you're shooting a film with dialogue, then you'll probably use a microphone pointed at the actors. The end result will not be affected
- If you're shooting an outside scene, you'll bother no one with the sound anyway, and the resulting photo will not be affected
- If you're shooting a concert or something, no one will hear it, and again, the resulting photo will not be affected
- If you're silently shooting withdrawn animals like a sniper, you'll probably focus beforehand, switch to manual and just wait for the right moment to click. Why risk the added time to auto-focus when a bird or mouse something flies into your scene and hops around? Again, if done properly a noisy motor doesn't effect the photo
Why is this a factor handled in lots of reviews? Who gives a shit?
dude, how am I supposed to take creepshots if the girls keep looking at me when my shitty lens is focusing?

>Why is this a factor handled in lots of reviews? Who gives a shit?
The reviewers give a shit. Their business depends on you clicking links on their nasty splogs and buying stuff so they get the commission.
Therefore it is in their interest to tell you that the stuff you have isn't good enough and you had better get your game together or the neighbours and anonymous message board faggots will think you lack commitment to your art.
