I'm buying a camera for my youtube channel and I've decided on the Canon EOS 600D.
This may not be the best choice but I didn't want to spend more than $500 and shipping + import fees to my country can add $100-$200, if it ships at all.
The cheapest I could find it is from ebay, in particular this seller:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-Canon-EOS-Kiss-X5-T3i-600D-Double-Zoom-Kit-18-55mm-55-250mm-/282453622064?hash=item41c38c3d30:g:XuMAAOSw-3FZBWT2
Would /p/ trust cameras from ebay, and should I go ahead and buy this or no?
>>3087237
why didn't you post this in the gear thread?
>>3087237
never trust cameras from ebay. Though the Rabel series is so shit i dont imagine anything of value being lost.

How do you set the exposure on this camera?
>>3086373
The black and white dial on the front controls exposure compensation.

>>3086374
I understand but setting it is more difficult compared to setting the aperture
>>3086376
Yes, you have to look the brightness of your subject versus the brightness of the background and try to guess how the exposure sensor will see it, versus how you want the photo to look.

forgot to ask if someone knows similar works.
Part II from this thread >>>3076012
In this thread let's review some professionals' work. I will endeavour to post one or two photos I like, and one or two I don't like, and say why. I'm a noob and that's why I'm here. If I knew everything then there wouldn't be anything to learn. So if I say some stupid things take your best shot to troll me and deal with it.
I think it would be a productive exercise for anyone interested in modeling photography to do the same and we can get a good discussion going.
---------------------------------------------------------
The first photographer: Jan Scholz
Attached photo I love, primarily because of the model's positioning. The leg aggressively pointed at the camera (along with her bent elbow) gives her body an extremely sexual and almost grotesque form. Despite the hard angles of her limbs, her facial expression to me is soft and keeps a feminine quality to the shot. Love the shadows on her left collarbone as well. Softbox to the right of the photographer?
Only things I don't like are that the pattern on the sheets is ever so slightly distracting, and the framed pictures in the background as well. To me, a blank wall would draw more attention to the model.
Question: It seems it's shot on a wide focal length and then cropped. Is that correct? What focal length would you say?

BTW, the entire sets are viewable here: http://blog.micmojo.com/
I chose this one as the second "good" photo by Scholz because here he's doing something very simple, and making it look good. I think you could line up 100 photographers to take a similar shot and it wouldn't look so dramatic, with such feeling. To me it is simple, not some super clever pose or excellent backdrop. Just a girl on a bed. Everyone has such a setting in their home and could take such a shot. But Scholz seems to get every angle just perfect -- I especially like the lines of her shirt stretched across her chest. It seems to me he chose the exact correct angle for her to face, and where to position himself.
What I don't like about this shot is the hair over her face. It might look better if she'd positioned it differently, but as shot it looks flimsy and doesn't fit with the rest of her bold and dramatic, confident pose. I think the silhouette of her face, the line of her nose, lips, would be more interesting and more befitting the photo. I also think the choice of panties creates the illusion of added weight and makes this part around her waist and pelvis look fat.

oh i have him on fb. hes pretty good and also super consistent.
This is my least favourite of the ones I viewed. To me, it just feels awkward and doesn't evoke any real emotion.
I think given the pose, it's obvious he wasn't going to an attractive or desirable feeling. The model's body doesn't look good. He was going for something, I suppose, more vulnerable. I think it falls flat because her hair still has this perfect seductive shine to hit, and the way its positioned is so flawless. As well, he doesn't pay attention to the background. It's awkward where she is posed near this window, and there is just a bit of a painting in the top of the shot.
It all combines to take me out of any mood I might feel and I just feel like I'm in that room sitting there as he awkwardly directs her and she waits for this to be done to get into the next shot because it's fucking weird.
What do you think of Pete "Prep the Bull" Souza's current work?
Do you think its professional for a former POTUS personal photographer and former White House employee to engage in such a campaign?
>From 1983-1989, the lensman served as the Chief Official White House Photographer for President Ronald Reagan, capturing moments both strikingly intimate and public for the Republican icon. Then, after covering the War in Afghanistan, he began chronicling the rise of then-Senator Barack Obama
>over the past few months, whenever the current commander-in-chief causes embarrassment, whether it’s posing with a miserable-looking Pope Francis or getting his hand swatted away several times by First Lady Melania Trump, Souza has served up a photo of Obama doing the exact opposite. Sassy caption included.
>This one is titled “Holding Hands.” and was posted after Melania refused to hold Trump's hand twice in a row.
Whats the big deal? trump constantly throws pettier bants at on twitter, like Arnold Schwarzenegger having low tv ratings. We should probably focus on the president elect and his lack of professionalism instead of some photographer that is retired.

I need advice so i came to /P..

Oh wait, you're right. Men and women have completely different anatomies, and light and geometry work different between the two.
im saving up for a starter a camera and I was wondering what's a good camera to purchase? I was deciding between the Sony A6000 or Nikon D5500. Can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of each camera compared to one another? I mainly do landscape & urban photography but i wanna get into portrait/video work
The gear thread.
Also a used D7100 is a much better camera than the D5500, costs less, and is a better match for the A6000 since it brings a weather sealed body, pentaprism viewfinder, and the ability to fully use cheap screwdrive lenses.
If you mainly do urbex and landscapes, the D7100 will be better since it's a more rugged body and you can get some nice wide angles for it, but the A6000 will wipe the floor with the D7100 in terms of video.
go with the nikon. cheaper, better lens selection, better ergonomics, better real world performance. the a6000 has a better sensor, but if you're forced to push your iso into dangerous territory to get a shot its going to be shit anyway. the a6000 is also significantly better for video, but i believe most people in your situation find out that learning still photography is challenging enough, and never end up using their beginner dslr to shoot anything.

Hi /p/,
some months ago I posted my website here and asked for critique. You guys gave good inputs to make it better (specifically, you pointed out similar sections, galleries with too many images etc).
So I'm finally reporting back. I'd like to hear what you guys think again. Here's the link: gabrieljtrodrigues.com
Also, feel free to post your own websites / online portfolios. I'd like this thread not to be just about... me.
Thank you for all your help!

Don't think in subjects, think in scenes. Pay attention to your backgrounds.
Keep in mind what the aperture you're using is doing to the photo as a whole.

Want an ilc on a budget (under 1000 for body and lens). I'm not a super keen photographer, my main hobby is drawing/painting, but I want to take some nicer photos when I travel. There's so much fucking information on the internet I just need someone to say i'm a faggot and I should just get ___.
Considering Fuji x-t10 and oly m10 mark II
Pls help
>>3090137
You're a faggot and should get an xt10.
Ok you're not a faggot, but still get the xt10. It's my main travel camera, here are some key points:
Pros:
Light
Cheap: you can get one for around £250 used easily
Lens selection, I've got a 23mm f1.4 and it's a beast
Menu system is unobtrusive
Great film simulations
WiFi
Good battery life
Lots of in camera adjustment
Portable
Cons:
Not weather sealed, but I tend to avoid torrential downpours
Doesn't have the latest xtrans sensor, but oh well
Don't know what else
It's a great camera, and if you get the 35mm f2, then it's a dream. The lens is made for it.
Classic Angry Fatographer post
>Nikon DL24-85 totally destroys Sony RX100 iv
>The new Nikon DL24-85 totally destroyed the overpriced and underpspeced Sony RX100 iv, as the recent specification comparisons have shown.
>The dying compact camera market is going to experience a mini revival this year due to Nikon’s amazing innovations that came to light in the recent weeks.
>The amazing DL series will prove to be a best-seller among pros, who need a small compact camera next to their professional D5s, D810s and D500s.
>Sony on the other hand is continuing to lose market share, especially in their mirrorless system (ILC), that is way behind Fuji and Panasonic when it comes to innovation.
Worth a good laugh when you think about how it turned out.
Do you people use zooms or primes for portraits? I've been thinking about getting a 50mm f/1.8 for my APS-C camera but then you can't control the focal length to get the facial distortion that'll look the best, and you can't control the background separation in the same way without having to move yourself and your subject around, but it seems to me like primes are more common than zooms for portraits.
Does it just come down to the sharpness when ut comes to people using primes over zooms or am I an idiot and am missing out on something?
I shoot almost nothing but portraits anymore and over the years sold all my zooms except for the 70-200 which I still like a lot
I love my 35, 50, 100 combo on FF
the crucial points for me are low light, distortion and weight
I dont really like the 50mm on my crop body
primes are great for just how well the isolate the subject
use a 35 50 85 100 and maybe 135mm
try to get the absolute lowest f-stop you can find/afford
50mm is the most "real to life" look for portraits, and 85 gives the best out of focus backgrounds
also cheaper old primes tend to be extremely sharp, and a focal reducer isn't bad if you aren't autistic and want that FF look if you own a mirror-less apsc camera, but FF is always preferred if money isn't an issue
pic related is some quick snapshit with a 50mm 1.4 on an apsc sensor
