I went to Cabelas to check out their stuff, then went for a coffee and found the same shit for cheaper online, I mainly only go to stores like Cabelas to physically hold an item and work out if I like it, then I buy it online or as been said buy it cheaper from a local store.

The exception is if they have some crazy sale/promotion on or I feel like routing in the bargain bin.

Pretty much this. I like going to Cabela's to try shit on or check out an item in person. Last time I was there I tried on several pairs of Merrell boots to see what size I would need, then I watched Merrell's online store and bought a pair that they had on sale.

About the only thing I'll buy from Cabela's is reloading components (bullets, powder, primers, etc.). They have good prices on those components and I don't have to pay any inflated shipping costs. They will also usually honor deals/sales from cabelas.com in-store as well if you talk to a manager about it.

Cabela's and Bass Pro rarely have codes for more than free shipping though. But it will direct you to similar websites and check out what deals they have.

Otherwise if I want a good deal on something expensive where I know exactly what I want, I will see if any reputable sellers on eBay have it, or Amazon, or just keep an eye on all the major retailers waiting for a sale.

If you are not a weird size and don't have a problem with pre owned stuff then the goodwill or the thrift store sometimes have good gear, half my gear came from there, including knives, cook sets, boots and bags, and with the money I've saved I can afford to go out and stay out longer.

I’ve bought all kinda stuff from Cabela’s over the years and other then their sweatshirts recently, everything I’ve ever gotten from them has been top quality. They’re my favorite store and wish the two of them here in Michigan (regular huge store and an outlet store) were closer to my home.

This past Oct. I got their Grand Teton Primaloft / GoreTex parka for $70 (regularly $200) and the Primaloft button-in liner for $40 (regularly $100). Also got their GoreTex / Thinsulate Snow Runner boots on sale for $60 (reg. $150).
