Hello /out/ Im looking for a hammock sleep system that does not need a tarp. Kind of like a peapod design but more light weight.

There's definitely no info there about a weatherproof pea pod design.

What about a jungle hammock? One like the DD hammocks jungle hammock. It uses a tarp, but one that just covers the hammock only. Might be an idea.

Also, one of the problems you'll face with jist a weather oof peapod, is that is almost impossible to seal the ends to make them water proof. Any hole that the hammock has to pass through would be a spot for water to seep in. Water that's running across a surface has a habit of getting into even the tightest of cracks.

I think those are called tents

Good luck finding a solution to water running down your suspension lines

Good luck with moisture wicking through the outer shell and into your sleeping gear

And good luck trying to get it 'more lightweight' than a tarp considering you have to protect more surface area with a pea pod style design.

GENERALLY when someone comes up with a 'good' idea theres' already a reason it's not been adopted or proposed by others.

If you want lightweight a hammock + asymmetrical tarp is going to be the lightest combo.

There are loads of other downsides to your idea:

No protected space when not in the hammock, for cooking for example.

No protected space to put your pack/boots hone you're in the hammock.

Unable to take down the hammock first in poor weather/set up the tarp first in poor weather.

Means you don't have a stand-alone tarp for when you stop for a break (lunch time)

The ONLY time IMO that this kind of thing works well is when it's used in very cold conditions as a means of trapping air (and so allowing it to warm), in conjunction with a tarp when the weather is bad.
