Was out rock hounding earlier today, I need your help to identify

Tooth of some kind, if it's very rocky sounding it's fossil. Where in general where you? Seems mammalian. Find it near sand stone?

I live in northern Illinois. It was on the beach

looks like a fossilized tooth from an intermediate sized grazer. maybe deer or elk is the logical choice. "b-b-b-but there's no elk in illinois". eastern elk went extinct about 1880. there is said to be a small population still in northern ontario. So for the hunters out there this is why wildlife management is a good thing.
