WTF is this?
That's what happens when you go too long without washing your rug. The rest of the swarm will awaken within a week, so I'd recommend you abandon ship.
Yup, take a laptop up to the top of the mountain where the tower is, plug into the router and go from there.
Backhaul radios are just glorified wifi.
Of course I do outdoor wifi, how else would I sage shitty thread while deep in the national forest?

I prefer indoor camping.
Do muslin sheets a good towel substitute when hiking?
I have successfully done this in the past when interrailing across Europe. The muslin sheets are cheap, light, fold into a very small space, and I can use one dishcloth-sized sheet to dry most of my body.
I do not have much experience of multi-day hikes. I am going to do one in summer with some mates. I cannot think of a good reason why muslin sheets would not work in this situation either, but they insist I should bring a travel towel?
I use a microfiber towel, which come in sizes S-XXL, from Decathalon, for under a tenner. It packs up smaller than a cotton hand towel and dries my entire body.
Muslin is cotton, so have fun with it taking ages to dry
>>1026071
Yeah and muslins are just a bunch of terrorists anyway.
>>1026069
Packtowel make great towels, they really aren't that expensive and pack down small and are light. They also dry super fast which is key. They only reason I would use one over muslin sheets is the drying time.
Batoning, is it a meme or do people actually do it?
all i can say is the person that made that image and its accompaniments doesnt go outside. i mean how could they, if they have have the ability and time to do all that. how the fuck do you even put subtitles on a video?
>>1020295
People do it. It's nothing new either, the earliest written article about batoning, was in 1920.
Quality Thread, OP.

How do grown men fall for the tent meme?

>never heard of hammock posts
This pains my heart. How new are you?
>>1036021
nobody likes to sleep on the ground anon
How much shit did they really carry back then?
>>1035745
Less shit than most carry now.
It was just bulkier.
>>1035745
we'd carry anything from 60-95 lbs, and that would last us anything from a week to a month depending how light we pack.
a lot of us would cache food on the way out if we were coming back the same way. That lightens the load a bit.
>>1035745
Honestly looks like about the same weight I carry on long trips. Things just look heavier because being compact wasn't really a necessary demand for gear makers.
These days, compact gear is a #1 selling point.
Got a little birthday money so I decided I want to buy some /out/ gear. I have like $900 so what would you guys buy with that? I have a shitty cheap tent and hammock but not much else.
>>1034131
cocaine and prostitutes
>$900
>birthday money
Fug anon, thats a lot of money. Give me some.
Aldo, buy an underquilt, a backpack, a tarp and some cooking ware.
Going to Yosemite this weekend for the first time. Planning on hiking the north rim. Any of you guys have any recommendations for spots to check out?
you're aware 120 is closed past crane flat?
>>1033991
I thought that got reopened about a month ago.
>>1034164
glacier point road along the south rim opened last month. 120 will probably be closed for at least another 2 weeks.

I don't know how are they called but they smell real bad.
Where to get gloves like this? I mainly want them for sun protection but need them to be sturdy so they dont wear out using working. Any ideas where to start looking? Thanks
>>1033679
Army surplus?
google "sun gloves" for light, breathable protection
mechanix gloves for durable stuff
i don't know what tacticool gloves that guy has, maybe nomex for flame resistance
Just search for construction gloves.
Help me find a reason to stop sitting by my PC literally all freetime every single day.
>sleep 4-5 hours
>work for 8-10 hours
>literally just browse internet and sometimes play a videogame in other time
>games used to be my passion, the last few years it's more just a thing i continue with out of habit, but i often feel like it's draining my life away
>there's just NOTHING else to do, i have no interests whatsoever, noone to talk to or do something with
I think I really want to turn my life around and become an outdoor person, I imagine sitting around in a forest and just chilling or something, but then realization hits me with that it's fucking stupid. There are almost no reasons to go outside my apartment, every single form of entertainment that can be done is multiplied at the PC. The PC is just far, FAR too convenient for every single thing one can think of to spend time on.
I've put weeks of thought into getting a new smartphone, and had ideas like when I get one I can do all that internet browsing, music listening and even light videogaming at occasion anywhere I go. But why really go anywhere when I can do all of that on my PC, in my comfortable chair, not risking having to strike a conversation with people who are more likely to just rob me unless I sprint right away?
I'm fucking sick and tired of living like this.
>>1032308
> I want to go /out/
Then do it.
>I don't want to
Then don't.
>>1032310
I actually just got the idea to maybe start climbing or something, but it seems awfully dangerous, I'd definitely find a way to fuck up and break my spine or something. I'm probably too fat either way and would just look fucking ridiculous if any stranger happened to see me doing it.
Fuck you OP
You are a gigantic yeasty vagina
If I want to tie a hammock to trees, should I use bowline knots? I don't know anything about knots. A bowline is considered a loop knot but it can be used as a hitch, right? Is it better than other hitches like clove hitches?
>>1031704
The marlin spike hitch is a typical knot.
If you have short fixed loops on your hammock and then use long tree straps you just put the hitch down the strap at the desired length.
I just use sturdy chunks of branches for the spikes / toggles.
Just buy the Atlas straps you cheap bastard
>>1031728
The atlas straps work but they're really heavy, and overpriced.
If you want daisy chain straps, just buy cheap knockoff ones.
Cinch buckles, or whoopie slings are lighter and about the same price.
I'm from the UK, but want to live off the land. Can I just move to the woods and hunt till I'm old? why would that not be possible? I've always wanted to do it. Why can't I
Because you'll go crazy from isolation in the unlikely event that you don't starve to death first
>>1031649
Trespassing and private land are huge problems. Lack of experience is another. Inconsistent food, possibility of disease, and lack of modern materials for cleaning, prepping, and safely consuming the animals you hunt are also problems. Getting good, clean water and safe plants to consume is also pretty hard. Overall, maintaining a healthy diet is the biggest problem for you; private land can be circumvented by finding a large enough area for you to have a dedicated living space and hunting ground, and a lack of experience will be overcome in time and with some practice and research in dealing with predators and the issue of safe food.
I wouldn't recommend it, but there are plenty of experiences you can read about in case you decide you want to.
>>1031649
through-out history entire communities have starved to death and that's with them all knowing what they are doing
so go ahead and try it if you want to die
Going wild camping with my brother in Scotland this summer. Any advice?
(Glen Coe btw, are there mosquitoes there?)
>>1028565
midges, get a head net.
also, ground can be very deep and wet, you might need wellies.
>>1028570
What about the East of Scotland? The location isn't definite yet. I hear the East doesn't have so many midges.
>>1028565
Never been Glencoe way myself, though all of the West coast is pretty great. I do hear that normies enjoy going there to trash the place, with beer bottles and cheap camping gear, since it is a well known glen. Perhaps a place a little bit more of the beaen path would be more enjoyable.
With regards the to your second question yes there are midges and clegs when the wind dies down. One trick is to leave your arms uncovered that way fewer midges go for your more sensitive face, also it is easier to brush the midges of your arms.
OK this is serius issue...
What is the best MALE Undies of this cut type ( pic ).
This undies design is best for running, and for keeping your balls in place..
Can anyone recomend a good outdoor survival undies of this type?
>>1027586

Does anybody wear underwear like this anymore?
Merino underwear you can wear for days but will only last a couple of months.
I just wear cheep kmart trunks. They're cumpfy as hell, zero chaffing, and they even sell a set organised by days, which is helpful.
>>1027586
I've never had issues with my balls flopping around when running? Is it a common issue?
I do wear boxer-briefs though.
