Fishing discussion specific to Ireland! The fishing general is largely about fishing for American species which we don't have.
Recent catches? Planned trips?
Next week I'm going to the north of Donegal for a few days beach fishing, using crab bait targeting dabs and plaice and flounder close in with a two hook paternoster rig, and using a second rod at longer range a sandeel on a running ledger.
I'll also have a spinning rod set up. Should be in with a chance of bass and mackerel too.
Recently I've caught a lot of rays, it seems to be that time of year when they're everywhere.

'murrica here but I have fished briefly in Ireland.

Your freshwater species can be caught on the same shit as American fish--I took a 6' medium spinning rod and caught pike and trout in the various ponds and lakes of County Kerry.
>>

Generally trout fishing remains constant, but you have many things we don't. I have no idea about crappies, bluegills, snakeheads, smallmouth or largemouth bass, pickerel, panfish.
Whilst similar tackle can sometimes be used, you also have a lot of different things unavailable here. There is no Walmart, and the only Dicks we have here are hanging between men's legs.

Anyone ever take hikes on their local power line paths? You know like the big ones that clear a huge line through most cities? I have one near my house and it's great for wild flowers. It's annoying though because most of them say no trespassing.

No because all of ours are fenced and patrolled.

Thanks Mexican stealth-pot farmers!

Just bring a hardhat, an orange safety vest, a clip board, and a shirt that reads "linemen" on the back (shirt is optional and probably overkill). No one will bother you in a negative way.

I have vacation days to use up and wanted to go to Canada on a fishing trip. Problem is all my friends are faggots who only want to go for a couple days. If I'm driving 8 hours one way I'm staying more than a couple days.

Anyways, does anyone know what the laws are in Canada regarding camping on crown land? Can I just pull off the road and camp next to a lake?

Is there a website that will show me crown land?

I want to catch fish. Walleye, pike, perch, lake trout, smallmouth... Not really too picky. Would I have luck pretty much anywhere?

Will bears kill me? I live in west Michigan and the only bears I've ever seen were in Canada

You aren't Canadian, camping on crown land will be illegal for you. Fishing licenses will be more expensive for you too.

I did four nights in the Maze last month. It was short, but one of the best trips of my life. I've never been anywhere quite so isolated. Saw some really cool petroglyphs, including an unmarked set. Saw the confluence of the Green and Colorado from the canyon rim and bathed at Spanish bottom. Holy shit, what an amazing place. I need to stay longer next time. Anyone been there before?

I really envy you OP. Been to Utah many times, but never to the Maze. What route did you take to get there and how rough was it? Let's see some pics.

It really wasn't rough at all.

Setting out from Denver, it took us about 11 hours to get to the Maze Overlook. We drove my brothers car, a Toyota with enough clearance and 4-low, but not at all meant for that kind of thing. From Hans Flat to the overlook alone was about four hours on the way down, but we made some stops at nice spots. The hike down from the overlook has a few technical spots. I could see why one might bring a rope, to lower packs if for no other reason, but we did not. One of us (party of four) was very cautious so it took us a little over an hour to get down. If it was just me, I probably could have done it in close to half that. After that, you're in the main wash and so it's all flat, of course. But beware: a lot of people hate to walk in sand and everyone does after a day or two.

As you can see, it was really wet. Ground water popping up pretty regularly throughout the great wash. Great tasting stuff, too. We found a great camp site in a small dead-end canyon a short walk from the great wash. I should also add, we packed a shit ton of alcohol and marijuana. Too much, if you ask me, but my brothers were keen.

The place really is a maze. While I never felt lost as I could always backtrack, we did not take the way to the river we intended. What's more, we didn't realize we were false till many hours in. Very easy to waste (not really waste) hours and hours going up dead-end canyons.

The place is crawling with lizards crawling through the cryptobiotic soil. We saw the same group of four deer three days in a row.

Today I had to dig up this baby oak tree that was growing between my hedges and in the process I had to cut away 95% of its roots. I couldn't remove the roots because it was in very rocky soil and its roots were intertwined with the rocks everywhere.

I want to rehabilitate the tree so that later on when there's a nice root ball I can transplant it in the backyard.

Right now I have it in a bucket filled with 50% Miracle Grow potting soil/50% native soil with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage, sitting inside a bigger bucket. I have never tried to keep a tree indoors before. Does anyone have tips, other than being vigilant about keeping it moist? Its life is hanging by a thread, HALP!

Why don't you guys just join the military? All the milsurp, ropes, MREs and knives you want to play with. And you get paid for it. Since this whole board seems to be about gushing over military gear why not just cut to the chase?

I like ropes and knives but thats about it.
I like going into desolate nature because I feel free and I love that feel. It helps me escape from society which often discourages individualism.

The military is like society times 10.
No deal.

Hi /out/,

I need a decent pair of boots for walking in the woods, highlands, and beach in any weather that I can also wear when I'm not /out/.

Right now I wear some brandless old pair of 6" leather boots, and I've had them so long that I can't remember when or where I got them. I wear them everywhere unless I'm going to a wedding. I've got a lot of use out of those bastards, and never taken care of them. They're totally ruined, they make so much noise when I step and they have more scars than I can count. I love them, but the soles are so full of holes now that my feet get wet even when there's barely been rain.

I wear boots no matter what. Most walking boots aren't the sort of thing you can wear when you're not hiking, and most "work boot" brands that are waterproof, were built to last, and look respectable have become fashionable and now solely produce overpriced chinese garbage that would look like shit after a single trip to the forest.

Is there anything out there that looks good and stays looking rugged but nice over time? Timberland is a fashion boot, I assume they're barely even waterproof. Iron Rangers don't look like they were ever fucking work boots to begin with; same goes for 1000 Miles.

I just want something that's comfortable to walk in and will take a beating, but I could still wear around the city day-to-day. What's my best option? I'll spend up to $500 for the right thing.

hey /out/ i am new to this thread but i have a question about a plant i have had for almost a year now. I don't know what it is, can anyone tell me? It produces mini versions of itself and i have repotted them all. can anyone identify this?

>>
>>1032837
Looks like some kind of Kalanchoe. If you clip a leaf, dry it for a day, and repot it it should make a clone

Why aren't these a thing?

I feel like there's money to be made here.

There could be a simple clip and unclip attachment, which in total would take roughly 20 seconds to detach and fold up. Probably less. Alternatively a handle mechanism to lift and drop the screen. Windproof material, which isn't heavy either.

Seems cumbersome to put away when you need to get into a building/vehicle.
>>
>>1032634
Because nobody wants a bunch of cold plastic to the face every time it's gusty. A regular umbrella or a rain jacket are more practical options.

This is one of solutions to a problem nobody has.
>>
>>1032642
Would taking a few seconds be so cumbersome? People spend a lot longer on much dumber shit.

>>1032643
Not at all. A regular umbrella does a shit job of protecting you from heavy rain. Lots of people have the problem of not liking getting rained on and having limited options to avoid it.
