Water temperature is the big one. Pickerel can spawn in warmer waters.
bug season is upon us. Anybody here like dem bugs?
Wetterfleck
Robes made from loden (densly woven wool) which are quite popular with hunters in southern Germany.
Warm, durable and if you take the tight weave, very water resitant. They double as blanket.
Only downside is that they are pretty expensive.
What do you think? Great gear or not?

Jeez, you LARPers have fallen into self-parody.
>>1036798
seems pretty sensible and utilitarian
how much do they weigh though?
I have a really nice, and expensive, double layer heavy wool jacket (Filson Double Mackinaw)
its pretty awesome but it weighs alot compared to modern alternatives
What is the "best" way of carrying one of these? I take it the larger slot is meant for passing a belt through? that's the way I've been using it and it rocks back and forth too much
So people say it's good as a neck knife, but I really don't care for that. Others said to carry it horizontal by making a belt loop with paracord, but I also read it can be a problem keeping it tight enough.
I like this person's mod with some leather straps. Vertical carry would probably be preferable; the size and shape of the sheath are pretty comfortable, I just want it to be a bit more secure.
https://www.edcforums.com/threads/izula-sheath-mod.76455/
Of course there is always the option to just redo to the whole thing in leather....
Suggestions? Ideas?
Turning that into a regular sheath is as easy as spending 20 bucks at hobby lobby on leather and a hole punch. Start down that rabbit hole.
Dont think about it too hard.
>>1034905
oh I have some leather (about how much does it go for there?) and basic tools, and have made some other sheathes, but I do like how nicely it fits in the sheath
I'd have to look more at other peoples' designs to see if it would be better to wet form it or not....a lot of people seem to like forming kydex for their mods but I don't have any
>>1034946
Kydex is generally cheaper than leather as long as you don't need the super-thick stuff (.10" or thicker).
I like making hybrid sheathes that have a kydex liner. Keeps the blade sharper since there's no chance of it dragging against the leather, and keeps moisture off the blade so you don't have to oil it as heavily. Also allows you to use thinner leather if you're worried about weight, and if you're willing to do a sew-through of the kydex you can still do friction retention while allowing a full-hand grip on the knife for easy/fast draws.
I'd probably go full kydex if I could ever find a way to attach it to a belt I liked.

Didnt forget the title this time but I'm still a tripfag-edition.
the corn and pumpkins are doing real good. really took off the last couple days. hoping for a much bigger planting next time. I never have to water it rains every three days.
Im currently replanting all the carrot thinning that I pull up, will report if it actually live, can I do that with beet?
What does /out/ use to prepare some meals?
Haven't found one of the usual flame threads, so I figured I'd start one.
Personally, I have an old MSR Pocket Rocket and it's quite OK, but I'm wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade it with a heat exchanger pot as in pic related.
Will I really get the "up to 50%" fuel savings that Primus primuses, err… promises? (lol, "up to…"). Can I even use such a pot with the pocket rocket? In the shop, they are all on stoves with large pot-stands, but twith mine, the put stands would rest inside the heat exchanger ring. I think this would be beneficial, since it could be more stable (that's my issue with the pocket rocket, you can not let go of the pot while cooking), but the flames would get to the exchanger sideways.
Or should I forget about it, and built me some UL cookware out of beercans?

Just buy or make a small windscreen for your Pocket Rocket. That'll help fuel efficiency a bit during normal use and a ton during high-wind days.
Heat exchangers DO work, but generally not well enough to justify the extra weight and bulk for anything other than fairly large LP stoves. If you're cooking with white gas or isobutane the fuel weight is pretty negligible compared to the extra weight and bulk of the pot.
The sole exception to this is a Jetboil Zip, but that's a unit designed specifically around a heat exchanger.
Use the Esbit pocket stove. Pros are that you can use sticks/wood and the fuel tablets.
Hello people of /out/
I feel like I have a pretty good set up right now. I have a hubbahubba nx tent, osprey 70L pack, thermarest xtherm and a down quilt, my camp set up weighs in at just over 6 lbs...I'm pretty content with it.
I'm looking into buying a stove/pots and dishwear.
What does /out/ use for pots and stoves? Is it smart to use something like a pocketrocket that barely has any room to hold onto a pot? Is it the most ideal to carry one pot only to save on weight/space?
TOAKS titanium pot, nestling inside an Alpkits titanium cup.
Inside that, two folding sporks, my white box alcohol stoves (weighs an oz), and a 2ft length of tinfoil folded up to use as a wind shield.
Only issue with alcohol stoves are lack of flame control (impossible to simmer things) and that it can be sometimes be hard to start when very cold (need to warm up alcohol)
If I were not concerned with weight I would go for an MSR multifuel stove.

The question is...alcohol, wood, or gas canister?
What are people's experience with alcohol stoves?
Why is the whisperlite so big?
Need help identifying this pepper plant.
I have one a bit older than this. It grows in height way more than in width.
The peppers it produces are tiny and red, about the same size as an acorn.

Impossible to tell looking at your plant at this stage, but it sounds like what is called Chiltepin or Bird Chile to me.

What is the ultimate /out/ activity and why is mountaineering?
Sorry OP but you don't get more /out/ than living in a yurt off-grid in Mongolia.

I agree with you op. Combines camping, hiking, technical skill, and gearfaggotry in one perfect place. Love mountaineering, it pulls from all of my other outdoor activities.
Hey all. The usual poop threads are all focused on WHERE to defecate. Would like to get some feedback on what people use to wipe. A roll of toilet paper takes up a lot of space unless you re roll a smaller amount which is a pain. Was thinking I might switch over to flushable wipes since I can easily stuff a few in a zip lock bag.
What have you found to be the best solution?
Wipes get you so much cleaner than paper that I will never ever use paper if I can avoid it. I definitely would go with wipes. I hate having shit smeared all over my asshole.

Where do you leave your vehicle when living in the wilderness for extended periods?
Say I wanted to disappear for awhile (+6mo.) in a forest that's a 6hr drive from where I am now. I could sell the truck when I arrive, but it has sentimental value so I'd rather keep it.
Pay someone to leave it in their yard or better, garage.
I'll take it off your hands OP. How does it run?

Post your dream /out/ing.
For me, it's a trek through oases in Central Asia, and hopefully a visit to this beast.

>pristine beaches
>extremely diverse wildlife

Climbing Mount Olympus
On Mars
Hello /out/, I've recently been given the offer to live in a cabin innawoods, 6 miles away from any form of civilisation for free providing I feed the wildlife during the winter. The forest is protected by the government and located in Denmark, I am very tempted to take the offer but wouldn't know how to survive out there, I would be allowed to hunt on the land and a rifle would be provided.
Can anyone suggest any reading material or give any tips as to how to survive in that sort of situation? The winters would be very cold and I would get roughly 1 meter of snow every year. I currently live in England and it would be difficult to find anywhere that would teach me the skills I need.
Any suggestions on equipment would also be welcome.
Thank you for the help! Sorry if this post is off topic, my first time posting on this board.
My friend, 6 miles is not "away from cililisation" in any sence. Why not just walk to the civilisation and buy food?
>>1038051
>cabin
>civilization only 6 miles away
And you are worried about survival?
>my first time posting on this board.
Lurk more
Just find a servivel course you double faggot nigger.
But why the fuck even?
You'll have a cabin and food. You won't be surviving.
Enjoy chopping wood every day.
There are dozens of courses all over England.
Are you unable to use google?
Resourcefulness and improvisation are crucial survival skills.
What's the deal with paracord?
Seems like a huge meme to me.
Why would anyone need fancy ropes on everything? What is their hidden practical purpose?
>>1037672
i wrap it around my dick.
it's comfy and could be of use in an emergency.
Because muh milspec and operator fantasies. People are retarded anon, but it's a good thing, when you see people wearing paracord bracelets and other shit you get the signal that said people isn't to be taken seriously.
