Earlier today a kind anon poured his heart into a whistle that he shared with us in this thread:
>>956638
He told us how the song keeps him happy throughout his travels, and thanked another anon that gave him the implement to make the music.

It touched my soul so it was adapted to piano for your listening pleasure.
/out/doorsmen, I give you Anon's Happy Floote rendered for piano by another Anon.

/out/ is such a nice board, really warms my heart to come here
I've found some kind of knife sharpening stone, but I know nothing about it. Help identifying it so I can figure out the best way to use it would be appreciated.
I've found some more stuff. Which of these things am I supposed to use, anyway?
Anyone have advice on how to clean the Biolite Cookstove™?
The instructions say to dry it quickly, but its got a mesh over the whole thing.
>outdoors
leave it in the sun & wind

hey guys, so I've got some money saved up and I'm thinking about going to BC with it.
is it as cool as it looks in photos and advertising?
(I know this isn't 100% /out/ but you know the drill)

BC is beautiful, but large.
And yeah, it's pretty cool
>>1046753
Yes. I live on the north end Vancouver Island. Been on the coast all my life. Pictures do not do it justice.
I live in BC, where you headed

Hello all,
I am new to Texas. I started climbing a few months ago and want to climb at natural places. I happen to be heading to the Trans-pecos (Franklin Mountains area) in maybe January. Does anyone have some suggestions on intermediate natural climbing? If you know of any in South Texas (RGV), that would be appreciated as well.
Rock Climbing General?
>>1046587
Hueco is best but you probably already know that. I went climbing today. Whitehorse ledge in North Conway NH. Long run out easy slab.
>>1046587
There's not a lot of publicly accessible climbing in the state. Trans-Pecos is best. Hueco Tanks is the only spot where a lot has been done, but I've always thought Big Bend could be pretty good too, if someone was willing to put in the work to pioneer routes there.
There's absolutely nothing down in South Texas. It's pretty flat down there--just look at a topo map. Your closest outdoor climbing would be in the Hill Country. Enchanted Rock can be decent.
I've heard good things about Reimer's Ranch but don't personally know anything about it.
>>1046587
Enchanted Rock in Fredricksberg has some decent climbing opportunities.
You're not going to have many options in Texas that isn't Big Bend or in the extreme west pays off the state, though.
I tried on a pair of Arctx boots today and there seemed very different than what I am used to.
There was a built in insert that was like a thick sock.
Has anyone tried these things?
They were comfy but wanted to double check before spending that much money.
Not familiar with arcteryx boots, but a lot of winter boots have a removable bootie so you can sleep with it, preventing it from freezing. Older boots also had booties as it was the only way to use goretex at the time, although these days some boots have different booties for different purposes, such as a more insulated one, or one without a membrane.
The boot in the picture looks like it would be the latter, it doesnt really look man enough to be a proper winter boot. Id love to see how the teryx over engineering has adapted the bootie design

Arc'teryx has only recently expanded into boots so they aren't widely available yet. As a result I doubt many people are familiar enough with them to voice an informed opinion.
There's too little innovation in the footwear space. I'm keen to see what Arc'teryx has come up with.
They are selling mre components at my local grocery store. What are the best ones?
Some of the other flavors

whoah, im kinda jealous OP.
i wish my local grocery store had this stuff.

My fish got done at the taxidermist today.
30 in. Walleye with a 17 1/4th girth out of Red Lake, MN.
Reminds me of the day I caught it. Brisk north winds freezing our asses off on a February morning on the ice, not even a bite for several hours. Desperate we try all our hooks in the tackle box, all the fancy shindigs that rattle, whistle, flash. Trying all our bait: Wax worms, Emerald shiners, Fatheads. I slap on a small 1/8th old fashioned chartreuse jig with a fathead and jig for 10 minutes and suddenly a wicked ass hit.
Sadly it didn't put that much of a fight, landed it relatively easy. Took longer trying to fit the head in the hole than it took actually fighting the fish. (6 in. hole.)
Anybody else have trophies from outings, whether it be hunting or fishing? Stories would be amazing.

Gonna pick up the mount for this guy July 12th.

I'm going to post some stuff from a brief exploration of the Bisti Wilderness & a few other locations while simultaneously requesting suggestions for areas of exploration in the 4 corners area. Thank you for your cervix in advance.

best place to purchase /out/ equipment?

Cabelas is shit, they over charge everything. Go there to look at quality of stuff, then go here to order it.
Only if it's a sale though, but the stuff is legit quality. Just don't overpay by getting non-sale stuff.
Army surplus stores, and good will.
Budget full suspension MTB.
Im thinking about getting the Polygon d6, which other ones would you guys recommend? I have a dirt jumper at the moment which I use on the trails (aswell as jumping) but i want to get a proper mountain bike for trails and a little bit of jumping.
Heres the main website:

Buy steel hardtail. You got shitty components if you buy cheap full sus. Also more time on trails, less time on maintenance.
I was on a trail and it came around a tree. I whipped my phone out and took some pics and video. Then I said "“Deer! Deer! You’re breaking it! You’re breaking my kayak! Why are you breaking my kayak?! Deer! STOP!”
>>1046679
careful anon, if there's durr there's probably burr

They've already came out of hibernation and are headed for the ocean for salmon and berries. Not really much bear food in the forest and I was 2500 feet up (from sea level). But then there is always that one retard bear who doesn't follow the rules. Stupid retard bear.
So this thread is because someone saw a deer?
dear /out/, all the videos and guides on how to start a fire "without" any equipment i watched, involved someone using matches, a magnesium firestarter or steelwool and a battery
so i ask you, is there a good way to start a fire with *nothing* but pieces of wood and your bare hands?
bow drill, if you have string, if not, hand drill. if you can find something like iron pyrite and flint you can use that to spark fluffed up ceder bark
>>1046463
If you have access to a rock or bone you can easily make a fire plough, but you can make one even without those things.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_plough.
It is easier to use than a hand drill (hurts less too!)
>>1046463
Good? No.
Doable, with effort+practice+luck? Yes.
What is your opinion about aluminum canoes?
They're great if you have to store it outside.
I have one from the 60s and its still solid they're great. Pretty heavy but I am 5'6 and can lift it on and load it on top of my car alone so its not too bad. Any healthy person should be able to carry it by themselves for 100 meters or more easily.
fibreglass is more durable tho
