Does anyone else get bacne from wearing backpacks for long period on hikes? I want to go on a long backpacking trip but I think this would become a serious annoyance after a while. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
>>1051369
No.
Try washing once in a while.

lose 150 lbs so you quit sweating big macs, you disgusting greasy pig
Hey /out/doors, /b/brother here, is this poison ivy or something worse?
>>1051142
looks like it could be, but that probably could be lots of other stuff too. if you think you've ben in contact with poison ivy you need to wash thoroughly, and not just your skin but also your clothes. anything the oil has touched will cause you to contaminate and recontaminate. because of that people tend to notice that the rash gets bigger and seems to "spread" over a couple weeks, but it's actually because the person has spread the oil or recontaminated themselves.
it could just be an allergy, hives, AIDs, etc though

>you need to wash thoroughly, and not just your skin but also your clothes. anything the oil has touched will cause you to contaminate and recontaminate. because of that people tend to notice that the rash gets bigger and seems to "spread"
This right here, the rash itself is not "contagious" but the oil if left unwashed can cause a reaction for years. Always wash anything that might have come in contact with the oil with warm soapy water rinse it and dry. They make ointments specifically for poison oak/ivy but for a light rash calamine lotion will do just fine.
ignore the previous posts. what you need to do is make repeated contact with the same plant over the span of weeks to induce a hormetic effect whereby you develop an immunity to the toxin. good luck.
my local /out/ area is pretty dangerous, high ass mountains, unstable rocks, slipping hazards, etc..
which gave me a serious height phobia
how do i overcome my fear of heights and enjoy my mountain hikes and mountaineering?
webm somewhat related.
Dont be bitch
how did that make you scared of heights? shouldn't going /out/ in that environment make you comfortable with heights?

Get /out/ and get used to it
What area?
Anyone here fly kites or basically know how to fly one.
GF got me one randomly and we tried to fly it, first spot was way to windy and it just kept crashing, then another spot seemed to be perfect, but just couldn't get it to take off.
Need some tips and advice on flying these stupid things.

You need to match the type of kite with the weather and wind speed. Some are great for gentle breezes and some are great for fast winds, but not vice versa. A dopero is a really good light breeze kit that is really stable. An HQ delta hawk on the other hand is great for really fast wind speeds.
What kind of kite do you have?
Lost my shovel in the beach the other day when the tides came in. Had a pick option and I'm not so miffed since it was a Gerber one I got in a set and costed $10. I do a lot of driving in sand and mud so need a good foxhole digger / spade along with the full sized one. Thinking of getting this coleman one in
>pic related
What's a good option that you use? What other tools do you have besides your pocket knife and machete?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B4VRLOQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one is actually really large, I liked it better than my coleman simply due to the weight you can put into it.

On the guerilla growing forums these types of shovel have a really bad name for being cheap shit and not worth the effort. I bought 2 ex-nato entrenching tools, one for me one for my mate. We both and fucking love 'em. Used it on my RHS courses for tree planting, used to get some plants out into my guerilla patches for a few years, was the shithole shovel for a group camping trip on a rockbeded hillside and dug my landie out of the snow with it and now stays in the jackbox under my boot. I love mine but cannot coment on longetivity of other brands. ExNatos are solid and probably not ideal weight for some of you guys.
not my shovel but werry good rittle shovel https://youtu.be/b60OZhrTB6o

Another bear attack within 3 weeks, what's going on /out/? First a black bear attack in Canada and now another black bear attack that killed a 16 year old in Alaska. Make sure to brush up on your bear safety and consider carrying a firearm, stay safe out there sc/out/s!

It's summer break and more tourists are running around out in the woods without any worry.
That's still only 2 people in north America.
Nothing is happening, you're being a faggot. Black bears are literally the least of your worries.
Fuck, you people are such fucking pussies.
Also way to bumble your way over here, you fucking mongoloid.
Sage.
I'm wondering if anyone has any solid info/research indicating what the most environmentally friendly way to cook while camping is. Propane? Alcohol? Biofuel stove? I can't find much info if any. Ideally this would be for backpacking not car-camping.
>>1051124
Yeah it's called a "campfire"
>>1051124
i would guess alcohol, you can source it for a premium for a few shekels extra, form a guilt free source.
and its a natural thing & it evaporates. can sourced from like rotten apples made with yeast into alcohol etc.
propane could have traces of light oil, but can be good too as it burns very clean. and biofuel will leave ash piles that concentrate some chemicals if you mean stuff like pellets
>>1051124
>environmentally friendly
>cook
Yeah no.
If you want to be kind to your environment please don't cook. There is no 'environmentally friendly' way to do it. Cooking is about destruction and the environment is about growth.
Eat raw both when in the woods and at home. Have a carrot, apple, some berries. The best most nourishing food doesn't need to be cooked and doing so would only lessen it.
>>1051130
No.
Campfire destroy wood, which must be taken from the land for fuel. They leave unsightly blemishes, breathe smoke into the atmosphere, and frighten wildlife. They are of man, no nature.

A thread died for this just so you could post a stupid picture hoping for a bunch of (((you)))s. You are selfish and a city dweller. I hate you.

because youre gay
I always take it backpacking and extended camping, have used for 10 years.
Its a KABAR 1211 and the strap is from a Gerber LMF 2 infantry knife.
Broke the gerber, isn't full tang has plastic in the middle to avoid electrocution but thusly added a big weakness.
How does /out/ feel about it?
It's never let me down, from skinning game, typical survival required activity, personal protection, even processing wood. Sharp as hell after a decade.
