Hello gentlemen, what do you think about a 3V gear Paratus 3 day back pack for a small mountain holiday. (pic related)
We are going to sleep in an apartment and walk around it.
The most difficult walk should be about 2km difference in height and 15km distance.
I was wondering if this back pack is ok, as I'll only have to carry water, a t shirt and a poncho.
What do u guys think? I'd rather get a military style backpack as I'd use it more than a trekking one, after the holiday
>>1051252
That is a cheap pack, not a good pack.
Try Savotta or the military Berghaus stuff. Take a smaller pack and attach everything to the outside that you can, you'll still have a decent daypack for walking around.

>sleep in an apartment
>15 km
>only have to carry water, a t shirt and a poncho
just go to your version of walmart and buy some $15 school pack
I'm starting to do basic exploration of abandoned areas like remote storm drains. I live in a big city so finding cool places to explore is kinda difficult. Any advice for how to find interesting places to explore or what to consider/know before exploring?

Hi, I found pic related while looking through old stuff. I'd like to know what the sight is for and how to use it. Also what the numbers at the top are. They go by 1000's so I'm guessing they're for measuring stuff. Thanks!
I can provide more pics if needed but the amazon page is right here. https://www.amazon.com/Bukm-Military-Marching-Survival-Climbing/dp/B01GJS2SZG/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1499055505&sr=8-19&keywords=compass
it calculates distance using horizon
>>1050981
>what the sight is for
Sighting in on an object and measuring an azimuth
>what the numbers at the top are
ruler for a map. the scale is probably printed somewhere on the compass
Can anyone recommend a technical vest that includes a full backpack? One that's actually available to buy? The closest thing I can find to what I want is the Fishpond Wildhorse but I'm looking for something to use specifically as a hiking pack. One Wildhorse review says it doesn't distribute weight well with a full load in the pack which is making me wary of purchasing it. Also I can't find a single pic of someone wearing one and I'm afraid it only comes down to the bottom of your rib age; I want a full vest that comes closer to my waist. Maybe a William Joseph Exodus? They seem hard to find though. Milsurp is fine but if something is too "tactical" I might be afraid to wear it innawoods. I like the idea of a tech pack because there are some things I want accessible from the front of the pack and I'd like my gear to be in one pack whose weight is distributed over my torso and not just my back.
tl;dr I want to one bag it using a load bearing vest/pack combo. What buy?
>why just have a sweaty back when you can have a sweaty back AND a sweaty front
>>1050805
Good packs take the weight and distribute it to your hips.
This is pretty much impossible with a vest.
Get a normal pack and strap stuff yo the front if you want, or look into Ribz packs in conjunction with a normal pack.

This is a dumb idea anon. Vests are for running. Their only upside being that they are secured so tight to your body they don't move around.
Get yourself a proper backpack.

hey /out/
any experience with highlander products? http://www.highlander-outdoor.com/
im going on a k2 base camp trek (14 days of hiking), and high lander is my only option for purchase, apart from Chinese and local brands.
what are their products rated among experts?

What company are you going with? How much does it cost?
>>1050497
hey man.
alot of companies here which do the trip. the bigger ones are Adventurer Treks and Tours and DISCOVER PAKISTAN. im a local so its cheaper for me. about 1300 dollars for foreigners.

the specs on the waterproofs are garbage tier
How useful até those for self defense? I live in a noguns country and there are many knife assaults, and i intend to make a very long bicycle trip (from Pernambuco, in the northeast of Brazil, to the capital of the country, Brasília). Are those any good in case someone tries to stab me to death? Most are flashlights too, what i think is kinda useful.

Also, i'm sorry if this is not the right board... If anyone knows one more appropriate i'd be thankful.

Contact stun guns (what you have pictured) are not tazers.
They're also literally worthless as they offer no mechanical incapacitation mechanism, rely on a battery, require you to be within arm's reach, and have no regional/national/international standard of quality or effectiveness to be held to.
A good one is strictly a pain compliance tool that unlike large heavy objects will not work through heavy clothing. A bad one just makes noise. There are far more bad ones than good ones.
Also try >>>/k/, the weapons board.
>>1050463
Mace/pepper spray is much safer. A taser is a device you need to use point blank and it can be easily taken away from you. A spray bottle that can hit someone in the face, several feet away, is difficult to take away from someone. You also need to make skin contact with the tazer. With the spray you just need to hit their upper torso and the mist will get into their lungs when they breath.

What's the over/under on tragic deaths this year?
So I'm really cheap, but I want some adventure in my life. I'm home with my parents for the summer with a part time wage slave job. I need a little adventure and looking to travel to either new York, Philly , or possibly Boston this summer. I want to stay for 1-2 nights max, but I wanna do this super cheap. I will be traveling by bus so won't be sleeping in my car. Most likely I'll be going to New York, so are you aware of any great spots for sleeping either in or close by to the city? Welcome answers to any of the other cites though too.

Might wanna try the homeless general thread. Seems to be about what you need.

if you go to philly a lot of the transients either sleep on subway vents or the benches on benjamin franklin parkway in the museum district.
not a lot of green spaces. theres a park at 19th and ben franklin that wouldnt be bad to crash at. center city philadelphia is pretty well lit overall and not that sketchy at night. id feel safe if i was dressed bad/looked disheveled and didnt have any valuables on me.
Can anyone id this ?
Is it blackberry?
Thanks

It's a Lantana. An ornamental flowering shrub, they require a minimal amount of maintenance and are quite drought resistant. They will die back to the ground every winter and will need to be trimmed to the ground, then next spring they will come back from the root and will need occasional trimming if desired.
