Show me what you got from Oregon, Washington and BC

I work on a ski resort on Mt Hood.
Favorite hike in the columbia gorge: Munroe point. Its 3 knifeback that converge on a single point. Hike is a little taxing, but very worth it. I also like Augspurger Mtn as a 2 day hike in the spring.
Favorite hike in Oregon: Rocky Top. Out in the santiam pass and 40 minutes up a secluded dirt road is my favorite camping spot and view in Oregon. The actually hike is to a knifelike ridge that juts out a few hundred feet from the top of the mountain. I like it so much because its so quiet. Cant hear birds, insects, or the road.
I want to do the Steenz later this year, have any anons been down there? Is it worth a multiday?
>>1058249
I went to Steens in mid June and there were rainbow yuppies dotting the landscape.

How physically strong do I need to be to do this?
Any first time experiences you want to share?
What does it smell like after you cut it open?
>>1057228
>How physically strong do I need to be to do this?
11 year old girl strong.
>What does it smell like after you cut it open?
Warm. It feels and smells warm.
Do the blood drinking ritual first.
It gets you in the right state of mind, and used to the smell and warmth.
Baton bones to get to the marrow.

>Do the blood drinking ritual first.
Won't he get parasites or some disease?
I had plans to camp this weekend at some state parks, I live in lower Washington and all of them have sights that are reserved with no availablitity. It feels like a cheat "camping" at these official camp grounds you have to pay money to pretty much sleep in a tent overnight with a bunch of strangers no more that 20 ft from you at all times. I'm worried on some 1 in 1000 chance that a cop or game warden will find me and somehow bust my ass. Am I just worrying over nothing, should I just say fuck it and go find a place in the middle of no where?
>>1055856
>just say fuck it and go find a place in the middle of no where
This
If you are just car camping, bring a ton of water and drive into a national forest
There are plenty of logging roads to explore
State parks often have shitty registration systems that allow assholes to spam reserve everything 6 months in advance for a small fee
Then they flake and the sites are empty
The federal park and NF permit system doesn't allow type A assholes to reserve everything in advance and saves some permits for people who walk in that day

Stealth camp tips:
Camp above any nearby roads or trails. People tend to look down more than they look up… and climbing uphill is difficult, so it is less likely that others will come looking for you if you are up high. Plus, from up high, you can look down on others who might be approaching your camp.
Don’t make a fire unless you absolutely have to.
Don’t make camp on the other side of a river, estuary or canal. They may flood overnight and cause you to get stuck.
A dirt road will turn to mud overnight in a rainstorm. Be sure you have an exit strategy for the following morning.
Don’t camp in an area where you might easily be discovered by dogs. A dog on a walk with his or her owner will quickly give away your location.
The best time to find and set up a stealth campsite is just before it gets dark. If you set up camp too early you might be discovered by people who are still out for the day. If you set up too late, on the other hand, you could find yourself trying to pitch your tent in the dark -- Not only can you not scout out the location of your campsite as well when it is dark, but any flashlights or headlamps you might use will give away your location.
Break camp early.
The harder it is for you to get to your campsite, the less likely it is that other people will find you. People are generally lazy and will usually give up before navigating to difficult locations.
Sometimes (but very rarely) the best hiding spot is right out in the open where people passing by will think, “I guess you are allowed to camp there?”
If you do get caught, play dumb and/or if necessary, offer to leave. There is no need to get in trouble for stealth camping. Simply pack up your campsite, move on and find somewhere else to spend the night.
Be willing to change camping spots if after a short while you realize the campsite you picked out initially is unsafe or in a location where you might be discovered.

continued:
Don’t camp in areas where there are “Private Property” and “No Trespassing” signs. You won't have the excuse of saying you didn’t know you were allowed to be there.
Use shadows to your advantage. Hide in dark spaces – under trees and bushes (for example) where you are not easily spotted.
Avoid camping in places where children might play. Not only are kids good at climbing into small spaces and building forts in and under trees, but if they do find you they will surely run home and tell mommy and daddy about the strange person they saw camping in their play spot.
Sometimes simply asking if you can camp somewhere is the best approach. Don’t be afraid to ask locals, land owners and even the police where you can find a good place to camp for the night.
Don’t let anyone see you going to or leaving from your campsite. If you must be seen, be seen on your way out of the campsite – just as you are leaving. By then you are already on your way and there is little anyone can say or do if they discover what you’ve been up to.
Remove all lights, reflectors and white, light or flashy material from your tent, bicycle, backpack or other gear so as not to be detected by flashlights or passing automobile headlamps.
Keep an eye out for hunters. Know when hunting season is and stay out of areas where you might be mistaken for a deer, bear, bigfoot or other such animal.
Watch out for surveillance cameras that might be mounted in the area.
Avoid areas frequented by geocachers.
Don’t set up camp right away. Find a spot you think might be good and then wait a little while. Scout out the location. See if anyone walks past. Notice what animals are in the area. Listen for other campers that might be in the area.
All the regular camping rules still apply. Avoid camping in the wind. Don’t camp under anything that could fall on you in the middle of the night. Sleep on flat ground. Hang your food if animals are in the area... Leave no trace
Is this thing worth it or a piece of shit?
I always take one on backpacking trips, lets me conserve the clean water I have for cooking or when I'm not near a water source

Katadyn>Sawyer>Lifestraw
Personally, I just filter through cloth and then boil.
Its a meme that was made so the UN can hand out cheap plastic tubes to african kids and pocket the money. Fuck I hate socialism.
So I was biking along a trail when I got a flat 10 miles away. Started walking back to my car and got really thirsty. I drank some creek water but the way I drank it, my nose was slightly submerged for a few seconds. Just the tip, where you'd stick your finger.
6 hours later I start getting a headache I wrote off to dehydration. 24 hours later I still have a headache and slight nausea.
How fucked am I? I'm in Ohio and we've never had a case of this, but apparently Indiana has.
>>1054656
anon why would you do this
this is so stupid I can't believe it
you're probably just sick from shitty unfiltered water tho I wouldn't worry too too much about brain eating amoebas specifically
>>1054663
The water was mostly clear and moving, and it was convenient. But it's like a 1 in a billion chance right? Its way more likely to be dehydration right?
Genuinely curious if anyone has experience with this knife or if there is a better bushcraft knife for near/less than stated price point. *a sheath/handle thats not total bs... "*not plastic"
Mora Bushcraft will be 1/2 of that and do pretty much everything you want for bushcraft (sans baton chop suey, but don't be one of those fags).
>>1054577
I have a condor basic bushcraft that I dig so far, I re-profiled the edge and sanded off the powder coating on it but you don't really have to do either of those things. I thinks it's like 50 USD. sheaths a solid leather affair. nothing fancy but it does the job and looks nice.
Which knife should i chose:
Glock 78 or glock 81?
>>1051304
For what, slicing tomatos?
>>1051311
outdoor knife
>>1051304
Glock knifes are garbage.
Any anons ever seriously considered van life?
I don't just mean for a few weeks a year, but actual full time living in a van.
Pros? Cons?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G1zKeSbQDc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR4WVjpwMRQ
It appeals to me a lot, just don't have the capital to invest at the moment. Or at least the money I do have I don't want to spend on a van. Just yet.
Not doing what I do right now.
Would need a bigger van. At the least a MWB high roof transit.
But totally doable. Just don't see a huge point when you have a fixed location job.
>>1035078
>Just don't see a huge point when you have a fixed location job
You no pay rent, but have to trade convenience.
It's all so tiring.
How hard is it to /out/ barefoot? Obviously our ancestors did it, how much is it going to suck before I can do it too?
Is there a way to ease into it without tearing the crap out of your feet?
pretty easy for me lol
>>1025724
Nice.
How'd you get your legs blowed off?
>>1025705
>Obviously our ancestors did it
The oldest known leather shoes is 1000 years older than the great pyramids.
You want to hike like your ancestors? Just make a simple pair of leather sandals.
How did you guys get used to sleeping in the woods alone?
I would be afraid of someone or something sneaking up to me in my sleep.
>>1022038
Hiked until I was too tired to care.
>>1022038
If you're close enough to civilization to worry about anyone finding you, get further away.
>>1022038
Alcohol. Not the safest idea but it worked.
i know its a fungus, but what, is it, and is it worth anything?
this might be a better image
A young Clitocybe nuda?
