Any National Park/Forest Rangers here? I'm going into a Forestry degree and I think this is what I want to do with my life but I'm not sure what it's like. Pic related, it's Wiseman's view at Pisgah/Linville Gorge.
i hope you have military or leo experience, or have a grandpa or uncle who's a ranger. or better yet both. otherwise good fucking luck.

Not OP, but is it really that hard?
>>1079004
What about being a leo in the military? Cause I'm thinking the same thing as op getting that forestry degree after I get out
Who here going /out/ for the meteors?
Me I'm going up to the local mountains now to set up a little camp for the weekend. Good luck getting a good glimpse of it guys
I wanted to watch the meteors but the weather thought "nah, fuck it I'm playing october!" So now we have heavy clouds and it's been raining nonstop for the last two days and will stay that way for at least one or two more days.

>Perseid meteor showers

>huge coronal ejection
>massive auroras

i live innawoods, so assuming the clouds cooperate, i'm just going up on the roof. but it's unfortunate that a 3/4 moon rises around 11 pm on the 12th, so the peak part of the night for meteors will have a lot of light.

I've been looking to cut down some pack weight, and the biggest offender is my bear can.
Do i really need this? The western Catskills are my usual spot. I have scent proof bags...isn't that enough?
>>1078683
Bear cans are a meme, I've seen bears break into them before by rolling them down a big hill. Git gud a throwing and erect a bear bag, all you need is some rope.
>>1078687
My throws are powerful, also rangers recommended using dark rope because the bears supposedly can figure that puzzle out.
I'll bring some, but is it true?
Are bears attacking people where you camp? Are there warning signs? If not then yeah it's a waste. You probably can keep your food in your tent and cook bacon on your campfire unless you is a scardey cat
Hi
I have planted a healthy plant from a single stalk. It grew several little stalks on the side, only to die fast in the last 2-3 weeks.
What can be the cause of this?
Almost the whole plant, leaves and stalks have turned brown.
Bad water, filter or use a rain catcher.
Tap water almost killed my 16 year old bamboo. (nj tap water isnt for drinking)
>>1078679
its outside...
>>1078682
Thanks for putting that in the OP, along with your watering habits, soil composition, and the other useful information. Go fuck yourself and I hope all your plants die you worthless sack of shit.
My boss hit this lizard with a brushcutter and fucked it up pretty badly. I'm trying to nurse it back to health. Any suggestions?

can someone tell me what kind of tree this is. Going to upload a few pics.
So guys, I'm looking into buying some food stash. Anyone have any experience with any of the mre-like companies? They all pretty much seem the same to me but I guess I would like some input because I trust you guys more than the shills in review sections.
Just work more dried beans, rice and pasta into your diet. Get more foods canned in glass jars and work those into your diet.
Have ways of boiling water that don't need electricity.
Survival food is a waste of money.
In SHTF situation that lasts more than 6 months you should be farming anyway.
>>1078353
My patriot supply has good freeze dried foods, they also sell seeds as well. Although I'd buy a freeze dryer, you'll save more money in the long run
We just redid all the floors in our hunting camp trailer and were thinking about getting some decorations to hang up. I've printed out this and may or not get it framed to look a little better. Anyone have any ideas for things that could be put in a camp trailer?
The "trailer" is actually a mobile home that hasn't moved since 1950, we just call it that.

Just go for it. We are down to under eight now.
Small pack with 3l of water in bladder, a couple of snacks, small first aid kit and a jacket.
No need for gloves, headlamp, knife ect. It is only 26 miles, most people do it in daylight hours.
Some people do the triple pass in under 22 hours. might have to give it a go.
Helps if you know the terrain though.
>>1076868
Also, the record is four hours nineteen mins if you fancy a jog
I'm going camping any recommended things to do
camp
>>1076486
Stop camping.
Take a nap. Read a book. Do some fishing. Drink some booze.
I want to try this. Where do I start?
Who does this?
Depending on where you live you can be trained but I would say get into paramotoring it's fucking awesome! To buy good equipment it'll be about 8k plus lessons

Anyone know the make and model? Their brand has gone to absolute shit and I wanna see if I can get a few pairs of these pre-shit tevas. Best shoes I ever owned and I've worn them into oblivion.
If not, what are some good alternatives? Don't fucking shill me!
Merrell makes a hell of a sandal similar to that one
I recently bought a pair of similar Keen Newport H2 shoes, and have not been disappoint. They're my first pair of such shoes. With pronating, narrow, flat feet, I am ridiculously difficult to please and hesitated because I expected a loose, floppy, no-support sandal. Worn them on dune hikes, launching boats from shore, in sand and on gravel, a bit of shore work with short, heavy hauls, but no packs or heavy portages. They seem pretty good. Wish I bought them ten years ago.

I agree.
I have been wearing these for years.
They are really comfortable and wear like iron.
I have only had one pair fall apart and i am brutal on shoes.
The pair that failed still made it through a season of daily salt water soaking and other horrors.

Love Cornwall, nice video mate
>>1074767
Was out kayaking in Cornwall today, really relaxing.
Man whenever I see drones at the beach I just wish I had a shotgun.
Thinking of going beach camping in Florida over the winter to surf fish and walk a ton.
Anywhere suggestible?
>>1073375
If you don't get eaten by alligators, report back. Actually, report back regardless.
>>1073378
>alligators
Would you suggest CA instead? Shouldn't alligators be more dormant in the winter.
>>1073379
>Shouldn't alligators be more dormant in the winter.
Alligators live down south because they don't go dormant.
Besides, big alligators aren't very salt-tolerant. It's one of their major differences with crocodiles. You're pretty safe from gators on a beach.
