Looking at picking up a canvas wall tent, prospector tent, whatever you want to call them for this winter (pic related). Anywhere to find one cheap but reliable? I was hoping to find one to fit 3 people and a stove. Not looking to spend $1000+. Any experience with them?

Make one from a cheap blue tarp if you're a cheap fag, fag.

Hey there /out/ !
I come to you with a project I considered and posted about once a few years ago.
I want to make a food which has a few properties:
1) It is a complete food (i.e. contains all essential vitamins and minerals that can only be gotten from your diet)
2) It is low cost
3) It has a very long shelf life
4) It doesn't cost anything to prepare
5) It is as low in weight as possible so that it is easy to carry - perhaps dehydrated food with minimal fibre
Why?
I want to make a food which can be easily used and easily kept for emergencies, purely as a supply of essential nutrition.
This food could have applications in any situation where future food sources are uncertain for long periods.
- Hiking
-Travelling
- Homeless
- Times of financial hardship
- Freak zombie invasion
I now open the forum to suggestion, thankyou guys in avance.

I'm trying to grow avocados from seed. I'm germinating this seed/pit using the traditional method but there's this white fuzzy stuff growing off the bottom half that's submerged in water. Im guessing my dumbass didnt clean off the pit well enough before putting it in water and now theres mold growing off it.
Does anyone know whats happening here? Is it mold or just part of the germination process? If its mold, should i remove the pit from the water and clean the mold off, or just leave it alone and it will be ok?
Thanks.
Heh
Hello anon, take the pit out clean it with some water, clean the cup you have it in and put fresh water in. Goodluck hope to see a little tree in a few months.

I knew a guy who tried to grow an avocado out of a pint of beer once.
Saw him a few months later, it had fully developed.
Hi /out/,
I was wondering what type of footwear you wear to your /out/ings. As in the brand of footwear and type. I am looking for a general everyday hiking shoe/boot and possibly for the occasional backpacking boot. Debating whether to get a cheap <$60 (US) pair of boots...
So.. what do you think of the following brands:
Hi TEC
Denali
High Sierra
Coleman

Is he yours? What's his name?
Please, share your job and which multitool suits you. Explain it. I, personally work at a front desk, but Im always around trying to fix things and now I feel that carrying a knife its like too much.

All I need.
Some days I wish I had a ton of tools in the truck for when little shit breaks. But instead I take out muh trusty cell phone and call a mechanic and then take a nap.
I have a squirt and a wave. Just talking about home life; the squirt gets used over the wave 90% of the time. I like my wave, don't get me wrong, it's just, functionally, the squirt can do everything I need in the home. I fucking love it.
Van driver. I carry a spyderco ukpk in my pocket and a leatherman juice in my bag.
Tbh I find my torch Way more useful for this job especially this time of year.
hey /out/ i will be travelling to nepal in a few days to do some trekking, there are a few things i need, the first is a down jacket. does anyone know where i can buy a down jacket that is good quality for around $100 dollars, is it worth paying more than that?
You get what you pay for with down. Higher fill means better warmth to volume. A 100 fill jacket made to keep you warm to 0c would be way bigger and bulkier than the same jacket made with 900 fill. Smaller volume of insulation not only means lighter and more easily packed but easier to layer over (with a shell) and under (fleece layer and underwear).
>>905873
>Layer over down puffy
Why would you?
I bought my down puffy IN Nepal. Might be a knock off but it works and cost me 30 bucks in Kathmandu
If you're a poor fag just buy one there
Hey /out/ I'm going to Vegas in the summer for a wedding and I have no desire to stay in the big hotels. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good places near the city to do some backcountry camping. Also, I do all of my camping in the Canadian rockies so I have no real experience with camping in the heat, what are some tips on how to survive in a desert?
Do you sleep in a tent in the desert or is it too hot? If I just sleep out under the stars will I get fucked by scorpions and whatnot?
>>905823
check out spring mts
camping in the desert can be brutal af in the middle of summer
it'll still be hot but you have shade at least
the vast majority of nevada is blm land
I live in Las Vegas. There's lots of paid camp grounds in Red Rock but Mount Charleston would be a lot more pleasant in the summer. Pack lots of water, and pack a good sleeping bag and ground mat because the desert ground will suck the heat out of you at night.
I'm looking for warm, thick base layer pants and/or warm pants, a warm shirt (preferably a henley) and a warm coat. I'd prefer all wool unless you know something that is better. Can anyone help me out? I'm preparing for the coldest conditions.
woolpower
icebreaker
you don't necessary want a super thick layer against your skin. IMO 200 weight base layer, and if it's cold get a 400 weight full to wear over.
Then get a down or synthetic puffy, and a shell.
Unless you're sitting about, in which case an insulated parka is the shit.
is this for city or inna use? you need to give us a bit more info.
And why the wool meme? it has it's strengths but it's not the best at everything, it sure as shit ain't as good as polypro for wicking.
>>905501
This is going to be for snow covered mountain treks where I can sleep in a tent and not freeze.
I want to save weight and size and carry few things. I'd like a wool baselayer for comfort (one of few luxuries) but I've never worn polypro so my meme is ever evolving.

I've got a pair of Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX that I got about 2 years ago at a REI garage sale that I really like. Want to know what people who own the Danner Jag think about them. After what I have now wears out I'm thinking about getting the Jag.
How do you stop your water bottle from freezing while winter camping?
>>902745
You put it in your sleeping bag overnight.
During the day you keep it in your jacket or in a bottle jacket like this:
https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5030-717/Water-Bottle-Parka
>>902747
I've tried the sleeping bag trick and it works until your water freezes again the next day.
I'm trying to solve this problem without being A gearfag. Anyone else have some suggestions?

Considering thru-hiking the AT next year; wondering how light I can go on gear.
Spent a week walking from Erie, PA to Cleveland, OH some time ago, and didn't do well on weight.
I'll tell the story of the outing if anyone wants to hear it... I suppose it's my only good story worth telling thus far, and I want to have some more to tell.

Some time in 2014 after some stint of living on my own and doing way too many psychedelics, I felt the need to go out and do some hitchhiking/walking with a pack. I suppose the romanticized idea of "making it on my own" spurred me on. I was fed up with apparent narcissism of our modern society. However, in the end, the whole trip served to show me the underlying "good side" of humanity.
My brother wanted to take a trip from the greater Buffalo NY area to the PA turnpike to get some delicious Chik-fil-a, and unbeknownst to him, I had thrown a pack full of "survival" shit in the back of the SUV. We headed down to Erie and did our rounds of fried chicken and Qdoba burrito bowls before I grabbed my pack and shared with him my intentions. He didn't seem too concerned, and so off I went.
The first day, I walked through Erie towards Presque Isle State Park. Of course, this was some time in March, so the storms coming off of the great lakes were naught to be trifled with (I didn't know this at the time). I got a ride from a stranger, who drove me from mid-city to the outskirts of Presques' premier campground, which I walked past looking for an out of the way camp sight. Of course, i had no permit to camp, so I was doing so illegally. I got it in my head that it would be a good idea to camp RIGHT ON THE BEACH (inexperienced woodsman). While I was digging a fire pit, which I made sure to keep out of sight of the beachfront hotels, an college-aged asian gentleman approached; he was looking for a place to come watch the sunset with his girlfriend. I helped him scout a good place away from the normies, and had some passing conversation with him about some shit that I can't remember. It lead me to realize that it's not necessarily the words that are said, but what you're doing when they're said, and enjoying another's company.
As he left, I noticed the storm clouds rolling in...

>>902598
I've stayed at that campground you speak of, Sarah's Campground. They have spots on the beach. There's no camping allowed anywhere within Presque Isle state Park.
Hey /out/
What's the best forest in the lower 48 to disappear in?
bonus points for not freezing to death.
None. I live in Montana and can never seem to get away from people. You'll never be a few miles away from any road these days. Maybe try Alaska or British Columbia.
>>902425
that's a real shame, I guess I'll have to go full into the wild

Hey /out/ I just went hunting for the first time and now it's all I can think about. I got a book on tracking and I plan going /out/ regularly to practice my still hunting since I know I'm going to trash at it for the first few months.
Anyway the book said to get a good pair of binoculars (which I totally underestimated on my first hunt) and now I'm tryign to sift through for a decent pain but i have NO idea what I'm looking for.
I live in southern Ontario. Any help/advice/suggestions?
Pic related, my current, complete guess for what I should get. Bushnell EXCURSION HD 10x42mm
Just get a scope or a monocular that can attach to your rifle.
>>901598
I'm crossbow hunting and it has a scope. But i'm looking for something that requires less movement to check things out.

You really don't hunt with that advice, do you?
Hey, I'm looking for some sturdy, comfy >100 dollar hiking boots. Any suggestions?
>>901094
You should narrow your choice down to what purpose they will serve.
For 3-Season hiking, get some sport sandals or trail runners.
For Winter hiking, get anything padded and insulated that you like.
For Crampon use, get a really stiff sole.
For Rock Climbing get something grippy from La Sportiva or something.
To look cool, get some logging boots.
Check Ebay and Amazon for chinkshit.
