What kind of trees are these?

I'd say wooden trees
What got you interested in the outdoors, and what advice would you give to a city dweller who's never been? I'm really interested in the idea of hiking/camping but have no idea where to start, what I'd need or what to do...
>>917000
Getting /fit/ would be a good start. Walk your city park... for a few hours. Stairs are better. Can you do 50 pushups?
No need to join a gym if doing above.
Once you can walk flat and level with some stairs mixed in, hit a trail.
Bring water, jacket, flashlight, cell phn and remember where you parked!
You might hate it, but you'll be better off than sitting on the couch watching Dancing with the Stars.
>>917006
I'd like to think I'm decently /fit/. I was hitting the gym doing starting strength and cardio 5x a week before working out of state the past month. I know I won't hate it, though. I went hunting with my uncle last year and even though I didn't see much being alone in the woods was incredibly enjoyable. Do you know of any good books or resources for oblivious noobs? Or is venturing out and getting a taste of things going to be better?

I never find reading about hiking as enjoyable as hiking, unless it's in a historical context. (Ex. JW Powell)
The exception being trail guides, which for my areas are valuable in finding new hikes in different surroundings.
Loop hikes can be tricky the first time, as you return via unknown passage. Otherwise, just turn around and retrace steps to traihead.
Hey /out/, I was wondering after finding a book about treehouses in my bathroom, if this would be a suitable location for a garden or fire pit or maybe ever a treehouse fishing spot on the new pond in my crater from a North Korean nuke in my backyard (LOL neighbor is digging out the sand.)
What do you think?
A different angle on the tree I'm talking about.
>>916977
>that fuzzy shrub is a tree?
Fire pit, sure. Do you want fall leaves in your garden? Tree house, not of any meaningful stature.
I was thinking more of the tree to the right.
We do have leaf blowers. Do you not SEE the sand pit behind it? That's on my property line. BIG TIME.
How can I become a professional fisherman, /out/? I would like to work in a ship/own a ship and sail the caribbean. Also, in my free time I would like to become an alpine guide and roam around. I just want to be in contact with nature and enjoy new places and new cultures.
Why? Because my fucking life sucks balls. I studied a fucking degree I didn't even want because my parents forced me to. I grew up in a shit country in latin america, currently living in Europe. My wife doesnt love me anymore and my job doesn't inspire me because it's related to the degree I didn't want.
I really want to change my life.
>inb4 kill yourself
I want to live. Life is beautiful.
>>916967
You can't change your life and your parents don't love you either.
Start drinking heavily, hard liquors, beat your wife when you binge, and realize that this day is your high water mark.
Everything from here on is the slow decent and living failure of your future, your dreams and your life.
On the bright side you're European, so you can get a mistress.
Dude set some realistic goals. Caribbean fisherman / alpine guide is NOT realistic.
You might as well say you want to be a tree surgeon / astronaut.
Achievable goals will make you happy.
Do you live near the coast? If not, then how the fuck are you gonna be a fisherman?
Do you live near the mountains? If not, then how the fuck are you gonna be a mountain guide?

Global fish stocks are on the verge of collapse, I'd pick another more realistic second career. Then it's just a matter of research and training, lots of people do it.
I've been thinking a lot about collapse and what to do when it happens. I personally don't think it's a matter of 'if' but 'when', though it may be many years from now...
I'd love to live in a rural area or have my own farm but I don't know the first thing about heading in that direction.
Anybody have a plan or things set up already for surviving?
How are you going to maintain a farm on your own if millions of hungry/angry city dwellers start pouring into the countryside following this supposed collapse? Civilization and order is what allows people to remain in one place long term. You'd need to be mobile and adaptable in your hypothetical scenario. Or even better charismatic and capable enough to get a following of other people to do what you want.
>>916739
>if millions of hungry/angry city dwellers start pouring into the countryside following this supposed collapse?
that wouldn't happen.
>>916825
Why, because you say so?
The countryside is literally the very first place everyone thinks to go. Everyone is going to "bug out" to the mountains and valleys. Fucking count on it. Nobody is going to sit in their 36th floor apartment and order pizza delivery during a societal collapse.
What /out/doors type gifts are you hoping to get or planning on giving this Christmas?

Found this when I stopped off the highway to let the dog shit. He stumbled upon it. Not familiar with birds at all, so what is this? Will dump all the photos I took. Kansas heading to Colorado, but I don't think we were quite in Colorado yet when we stopped.
I am going to backpack next year across the country. The journey will take five to six months. I'm going to take a flight to Charleston, South Carolina, then I'm going to walk from there to San Jose.
I went on /k/ for tips and tricks on how to protect myself along the way and they called me a 'special snowflake' for it.
Is it true? Are we special snowflakes? It made me feel bad and kind of buzzkilled my enthusiasm for doing this.

who gives a shit what fat, mouthbreathing make-pretend-military fags that shitpost on 4chan care about your hobbies.

Damn. I'm going hiking with company in pic related in two days, and my friends vetoed the route I had planned. Six mile round trip, though steep, to the top of El Yunque. Would've made for some cool views. Anyone been here and can recommend an easier hike?
Best way to get to the top of El Yunque is to get there early. Start by Parking at the start of Mt. Britton Trail. Go to Mt. Britton Tower since its only about a half mile round way detour with great views. Then hike all the way through Mt Britton Spur, connect with El Yunque Trail and head for the summit. You can stop at los Picachos Trail and its tower, its about 1/4 mile detour with similar views as the previous tower.
When going back go through the service road. Only vehicles I've seen on it are power company trucks which rarely drive through. About 3 mile trip to the summit, maybe 1.5 miles on the way back on the service road which is incredibly easy. Then drive back down and go see all the waterfalls on the way.
>>915854
>my friends vetoed the route I had planned
why? 6 miles is nothing
>>915905
Exactly. They just don't like the idea of going up steep shit.
its 4 days until I need to give a family member a $50 secret santa.
Hes very /out/ and I have no idea what to get him. Does a lot of canoeing, any suggestions?

/out/,
When I found this pumpkin, he and his orange brethren had been smashed, cut up, and left for dead in a rocky creek by a bunch of teenagers. As I passed the creek and saw the carnage, I went down to search for survivors. My younger brother found him lying there and was about to smash him when I stopped him, saving the scarred vegetable's life, or at least, delaying the inevitable. I wrapped him in a jacket to keep him warm on the trip home. I drew a face on him to allow him vision, speech, and smell. He was hungry for vengeance. His injuries were too great, however, and he started to rot and grow fungus. I knew it was too late for him, but there was only one last thing I could try. I grabbed him and took him outside, cut his head open, and harvested his seeds just 10 minutes ago. I want your advice on how to grow these seeds, with your help I could resurrect him in a new, healthier form. If I succeed I will keep everyone updated on the growth.

Shame this thread hasn't gotten more replies. I hope your pumpkin manages to come back from the brink.
Save a few seeds and plant them in the summer. Throw the rest in some butter and roast them for yums.
