What does /out/ take with them for back support after a long day?
Looking at the Chammok. Seems lighter than camp chair.
Thats probably the best choice if you always have some place to hang it on
>>919935
Does it actually give good back support?
How easy is it to nap in one?
>>919929
Only natural human posture is st\andinf/walking, squatting, and lay down 2 l\sleep any else f gy fag shit, stupid pusy.
Since I was young I always wanted to go camping. I wanted to do like straight up in a forest clearing or lake shore or something of the sort, no campsite hook ups or anything of the sort. In other words I wanted back country camping.
I'm currently building an 8ft camper trailer which I plan on taking on cross country trips, hitting national parks and historical landmarks all along the way. Being that I live on the east coast I plan on doing many important US history spots, things like the Liberty Bell, White House, etc.
I've read that you can camp almost anywhere on national park or BLM land as long as you're 200+ feet away from any water source. How difficult would it be to find viable and hopefully scenic back country camping spots? Will there be separate exits on the highway for people trying to just get into the thick of the wilds of the park or will I have to find a trail or something of some sort that'll take me from the developed park area to the back country areas?
I'm definitely trying to avoid getting lost in the wilderness doing anything illegal. I appreciate all the help.
tl;dr I'm in search of backwoods camping spots that can be driven directly up to since I'll be using a 4x8 camper trailer I built.
Or, tips on how to find these as I'm travelling cross country.
>>921396
>backwoods camping spots
>that can be driven directly up to
Pick one. Sounds like you actually want unpowered car camping sites, not backwoods camping.
>>921412
I take it the pictures like pic related I've seen of people camping with their cars in what seems to be wilderness would be something off of an offroading trail or a well angled camp site scenery picture?
Okay, so looking at these jackets and I'm curious as to why they mostly are duck down, from what I've seen only the snow mantra is actually goose down, they also seem like low fill power since they are around 650.
What's the reasoning behind this?
Secondly, if I was to buy a canada goose jacket, would I just be sweating constantly in England, since it really doesn't get that cold here?
Not going to lie, I really want the snow mantra.
>>919641
I thought England is moderately rainy, why down at all for suck conditions?
>not London Fog
t. I bought a perfect condition Aqua Scutum trench coat at a yardsale for $10 USD, google that
A FUCKING LEAF
>>919641
Enjoy your overpriced 650fp meme jacket.
I want to camp and climb in the Appalachian mountains. How hard is it to find a place where I'll be alone enough to camp, shoot, climb, make campfires, whatever.
>>919456
>pic
>call it a "valley"
>it is literally nothing but mountains
You can only do those activities in designated areas. You'll need to google them in the area you want to go.
We need to know what state your in, unless your a visitor to the Appalachian and want to know what state is is good.
I can only say that there is a designated trail by the Delaware water gap in NJ that I've been to.
>>919511
It's a bunch of small valleies all it together :P
Can we get an /out/ book recommendation thread?

Has anyone here ever done a summer treeplanting?
I live in Ontario, and i've heard from some long time locals that its a great summer job. Lots of hard work, rough times, and crazy parties.
But i've also heard that you often get gypped when it comes to payments. They pay you per tree, but they can assign you areas like pic related or worse where it takes hours just to clear the land.
Any canadafags with experience to help me out?
We used to have a planter on here. Have a bump.
Friendo wants me to do this with him this summer. Have a bamp
I've been trying to get some friends together to have a crack at planting in Canada for a while but have recently accepted that I'm probably gonna have to go by myself if its actually ever gonna happen.
are there a number of organisations I could go with to organise such a thing or is there one in particular that people here with experience would recommend?
Am I the only one who hates this sporty-buff people?
I dont know why, but i hate them and i cringe every time i see someone in thier spandex shorts.
>inb4 you are fat
No, im not
I'm envious of them, but I certainly don't hate them. I admire they go out there and enjoy the world.
Why do you hate them?
>>917093
Because always they come from the cities, and i hate city people. And because they are no true /out/ist they just jog.
You sound jealous.
Its that time of year... Get /out/ and start collecting those acorns! At least for us southern folks with liveoak.
My fingers are killing me already and its only been two days.
>>916658
we get bucketloads of acorns and bring them to the farm for their piggies. what the hell can i do with them myself? i've read it takes week to soak all the tannins out of them before they're edible for anything
>>916659
Oh I dont eat them either. You could make a paste like flour out of them. Deer like them too along with pigs. But keep them away from cattle! No I boil or dry mine to use for the tannin itself.
They have too many tannins to eat normally or kidney failure will occur. You can leech the tannins out over a few days using water with the acorn flour. Change the water often. I'm sure there are online guides about it by now.
This is Thor i rescued him. No one can give an answer on his breed. 3 genetic test done at the same time by the same company came up with 3 answers.
>>916115
It's a wolf hybrid. Put it down.
>>916115
So it's obviously not a well established breed. It's a mutt. Not sure why you're so interested in figuring it out? Pretty cool looking dog, but unless you're trying to breed more dogs like him I'm not sure why you care.
>>916115
interested because I've raised a few Akita and he has all of the traits of an Akita in personality and temperament as well as some physical looks. there is a breed Tosa_Inu that he resembles but they have no heterochromia and are genrally 150lbs this guy topped out at 110lbs.
Is it okay to eat rock tripe raw?
lichen? yes
>>914857
I didn't even know this was a thing
>>915504
For mountain goats it is.
Hey /out/, what's the best nutrition for value food that I could take outdoors?
This can include snacks from shops, meats, organic foods, bread, fruits, etc.
I'll have access to a stove, barbecue, an esky and have a decent sized storage space (say, the size of a car).
>>913587
>trip indeed
Around here, foraging and hunting has the best weight/nutrition value.
>>913595
>foraging
What? Really? Is this board for people who are completely off grid or something?
I assumed it was people who liked to go on camping trips and stuff, but still had some contact with society
>>913598
>my cave has internet
>i eat raw meat
>typically human meat
>younger is more tender

What do you think of this one?
>>909772
Good enough if you never leave your apartment.
>>909772
Add iodine
Tape (cloth tape)
More gauze
IMO.
>>909772
You're not a true sc/out/ if you don't have a complete pharmacy in your first aid kid yet no knowledge of how to properly use 98% of the drugs.
open stope and portal.
cable system for ore carts, with partial collapse
Have you ever fucked up in life, /out/?
>>900972
Show yours and I'll show you mine.
>>900972
Well we all ended up on 4chan somehow... so yes.
>>900978
>Have been wasting opportunities to fuck since my youth, a dozen or so by now
>Fucked up at school
>Closer to 30s than 20s and still leaving with my parents
>No real goals in life other than dreaming about have comfy /out/ experiences
Yeah pretty much sums it. I'm not depressed or any shit like that but after watching a movie where Olivia Wild has a quote about the meaning of life I'm feeling nostalgic and rather complacent about it.
And since I'm /in/ what's better to do other than shitpost about it with fellow sc/out/s.
Need a knife for general hiking and small brush clearing. Was thinking Gerber Strongarm right now cause it doesn't rust easy and I need it for when it snows. Any recommendations/reviews.
bring this, forget bringing any other tool
>>898491
>forget having room or weight to spare for any other tool
ftfy
Also OP, that Gerber Strongarm knife looks pretty solid. I like it because it's just a simple, solid blade without bells & whistles, tacticuul add-ons, or gimmicky bullschidt. I would honestly like one myself.
>>898493
Save weight by leaving you're sharpener at home!
Kill two birds with one stone by sharpening the blade while starting fires!
