anyone here tired of Californians transplants ruining fishing spots?
>be living in Colorado
>Californians by the hordes arrive
>fucking weed smoking yuppies and Chicanos who catch and keep everything and leave trash on the riverside
>used to have this spot
>now CA transplants fill the spot
>tfw have to walk over diapers now
>tfw it's gotten increasingly more difficult to catch sizeable fish
>2012
>not spreading rumors of a camp counselor who was horribly burnt in a campfire accident and ran off into the woods, never to be seen again
>not later spreading rumors of people seeing a man with a horribly disfigured face running through the woods
>not sneaking up on Californians out in the night and making spooky noises to spook them out of the woods
>not fabricating a haunting to keep out transplants
That or get a kayak and start paddling your ass well out of yuppie range.

Hey /out/, I currently am planning a trip in January to somewhere in the United States, I am leaving from southern Wisconsin and would like to find a place to go about 15 or less hours away. I'll likely be dispersed camping the whole time so keeping it legal id need to be in a national forest or something of the sort. My question is are there any suggestions you guys have of places that are particularly unique, or beautiful in the winter? I was thinking George Washington National forest, but I am unsure of the location in winter as I have not experienced much of the mid south/south winters.
>>922384
No suggestions from me, but I plan to drive through Jefferson National Forest (they're often grouped together) tomorrow and camp there one night instead of checking into a hotel. I'm not familiar with the area but am currently planning to just trek a few hundred yards into Mountain Lake Wilderness southeast of Kire, VA to camp.
OP if there's somewhere you want checked out give me a recommendation and if it's not too far off-course I could take some pics.
>>922384
va here, it gets cold as shit in NOVA which is where GWNF is, so dress warm
>>922384
Backcountry camping in GeeDub is great, but you're not supposed to do dispersed camping, except for in designated areas. People will report you and rangers are on tight lookout 24/7. Usually if you're off trail a few hundred meters you can get away with a few nights to a few weeks, depending on traffic, but just be careful. Don't want a ticket. Go visit humpback while you're there. It's beautiful (pic related) avd Old Rag if you get the chance (keep one of the opaque blue crystals that carpet the trail).
What's your thoughts about Ingress?
>>922272
started playing for real then begain spoofing my location using an android emulator on my laptop. the same company later made pokemon go. ingress is far better though.
>>922276
That sucks
I started playing it seriously about a year ago, no regrets so far, me and GF enjoying the shit out of it
It uses too much data.
You can't really be retarded enough to actually believe our methods of survival and advancement don't pose a threat to the natural world, can you?
>>921893
no, but the misuse of words like advancement is leading to your own destruction
>>921893
Of course it causes a threat, but you need to do a cost-benefit analysis. Would you rather have computers, or 80% of the world covered in grassland?
>>921897
Are you expecting me to say computers? I thought this was /out/.
Yes, humanity is reaching fantastic points in prosperity and progress in comparison to its entire history. It is very likely that population will steady, energy production will transform, and we will eventually travel to different planets to escape the inevitable consumption of our planet. Spending the rest of our days on some rock orbiting a red dwarf. But doesn't this sound familiar to you? We're fucking cancer, man. Nothing we have done has ever benefited anything else other than us, and nothing we plan to do will either. Even if we get our shit together we're only in it to stay above water, pushing down the heads of other creatures to stay afloat and take one more worthless gasp.
So yeah, I'd rather have grasslands than computers.
>But you're on one right now aren't you?
Technically yes, a phone. I am a hypocrite in the sense that I haven't already abandoned society to live completely liberated, but I am domesticated. I'm currently trying to fix that.
Not sure whether to post this on /out/ or /fa/, but I'm considering buying this as a potential windbreaker and overcoat for temperate hikes/camping, using either its fleece liner or an underjacket for added warmth if I need it.
Does anyone own an M65? Are they comfortable? Look good? Do they last? Which producer did you go for? I like the heavier stitchwork of the Brandit model over the 'dressier' Alpha Industries equivalent.
>>921770
Yeah bro looks hella warm!
Where can I get one?
>>921770
Looks okay. But I personally find lots of stitching to take away from the "wind" breaking effect.. Also I hate being a walking billboard. Those BS lables on the chest better be easy to seam rip off other wise I wouldn't get it.
>>921770
Get a real milsurp one
Hey guys,
First time doing winter camping, hiked about 3km with a sled and setup a basecamp and spent the night. The area we where in didnt have alot of spruce so shelter was more difficult than anticipated to build. Got down to -20c at night but it wasn't too bad.
Anyone else do winter camping?
>>921723
I've done some haphazard bullshit car winter camping, and there's not much to it except pack a lot more food and warm clothes and shit to burn than you expect.
I'm going out for my first full up winter time backpacking trip in a few weeks. I've been hiking towards the end of fall and the beginning of spring, but never this.
It's going to be in the Shenandoahs so it won't be anything like what you did (no sleds, probly get to 10F at the lowest extreme at night, 40f days) Still excited though.
>>921756
nice, its a pretty fun experience, alot more work than normal camping. What are you doing for shelter?
>>921762
Not sure yet. I might take my REI two man tent, maybe just take my whole US army modular sleep system (would probly supplement the bivy sack with a poncho/tarp). Suggestions? I don't really have or want to spend the $$ on a four season tent.
So im looking for information about primitive home construction. Mud, wattle, wood, all the good stuff. I couldnt find much useful that went beyond scratching the surface of the matter.
Especially looking for mud construction, its so versatile
>inb4 primitive technology
cool but more of a meme, i want to build a house not a shed
>use the techniques from Primitive Technology
>make the house bigger than the one he built
>????????
>profit
I'm not really seeing a lot of elements in the design that aren't scalable.
>>921583
Primitive makes horrible chucksheds. Uses like the most spindly fucking saplings as stucture to hold up the heavy ass roofs he puts on. Death traps really... Plus he doesn't debark anything.
>>921574
You just have to experiment roof styles and designs.. They are the hardest part. The structure is easy if you over engineer everything you cannot be wrong.
I have a pair of leather Lowa boots and when I got them from the store, he used a wax to waterproof them. I want to do that again, but I can't find actual wax, just the Nikwax spray which is useless. I came across this blog where he uses a wax toilet ring. What do you guys think?
Also, the lip of the boot is coming off. How would I repair that? (Not on the sole, but where it wraps up on the outside in front of your toes.)

>What do you guys think?
>>921414
The toilet rings work well but keep in mind that useing just wax on leather can dry it out and make it brittle. If you realy need them to be water proof and are to cheap to get a wax oil blend go for it. If just want to shine them up then use some olive oil to keep them in good condition.
Any coyote hunters here? I've never done it before but I want to get into it. I've read some stuff about it but I have a few questions.

What are the most useful knots to know?
I can tie a square knot and a noose. Anytime I want to learn I see a list of like 100 and I give up. Are there 3-5 basic ones that I should know for survival or other essential situations?
Bo-line
Figure eight (and variations)
Clove hitch
You can do most any utility with these. Source? Firefighter for 7 years, and these are the only ones I've ever used or needed in the field.
Some people go all out and learn 60 different knots, but they're most certainly not faster at making the three I listed, and their application serves the same purpose.
Truckers hitch

Ok , I have mixed emotions about starting this thread.
I recently purchased a product from a prominent outdoor gear company and when I got it home, it was mildly defective.
Went to the website and started a warranty claim.
A brand new item is being sent to me and I was told to just keep the old one.
I never provided any proof that I had ever even bought the product at all.
How common is this and how horrible a person would you have to be to take advantage of a company that has such great customer service?
>>920584
Burton is like that and from what I hear so is llbean. I don't take adavantage of it but I do reach out to them to get upgraded zippers and laces. One time had them replace an old backpack with a new one but Honestly they probably get more out of the relationship than I do.

Yo /out/, just got a Yeti 30oz tumbler for Christmas, and it looks real as fuck and all, but I didn't think colored Yetis existed really for sale like that. I love taking it out with me since my coffee stays warm and shit, but I want the real deal when it comes to my personal belongings.
Pic related, girlfriends yeti she also got
>>920555
You could paint it camo for manliness.
I have bought fake Yeti's direct from china and they are exactly the same thing. You forget the ones sold in the US are made in china to begin with. In some cases it'll be off the same machines.
Check the youtube review/ tests.
The walmart one for 9 bucks performs exactly like the one from yeti.
They are made in the same factory but one is over 50 bucks

Hey /out/, I know this thread probably gets asked a lot but it's suddenly become very pertinent for me to get a job. What are your recommendations for jobs that I can get so I can be outside? From Indiana, USA, for reference. Would like to stay local, thanks.
Landscaper/grounds keeper would be the easiest to find. Maybe farm hand if you're in a rural area. Those jobs are hard work though.
A conservation officer or a park ranger are pretty /out/ in terms of jobs.
