what is a survival knife that is all so good for throwing and is the one in the pic a good knife
thats a buck hunting knife, it sure is good, but depends on the application. Throwing? Lol. Treat your knife with respect unless you want to forever get the tip back.
For Suggestion for a good set of throwing knives, i'd recommend a set like the Hibben Next Generation Throwers or Gil Hibben - 7 inch 3 set.

Hey,
Lost my compass. Can anyone recommend a good one that is aesthetically pleasing but won't make me look like some kind of steampunk cosplayer or something?
Thanks

I mean whats the cheapest gear I can do this since I guess all my money is going to a fishing license and probably a park pass
and is there a directory for innawoods trails and stuff up here?
can I just sleep out or do I need a tent?
>>931056
You don't NEED anything, I slept just outside Yos last year while I was working on a ..ahem.. farm. The ground was actually warmer than the cabin I was provided. I would recommend some sort of insulating layer under your jeans, decent jacket of some sort.. If you don't have literally anything, know that I've been fine with nothing more than a knife, lighter and a jar of Nutella for weeks at a time. If you want to get gear, and just can't afford much, Tyvek makes a really good tarp or even raingear if you can sew, and can usually be picked up for free, and a $10 closed cell pad is better than an inflatable in every respect except pack volume, plus I do most of my hiking in tennis shoes. Don't over think it, people lived in this country long before it was a country, and did so with nothing but sticks and rocks.
Caveat: Bear spray. At least one huge son-of-a-bitch down there associates human beings with 2Gal buckets of molasses. Sorry.
>what are the rules for fires, bear proof containers, etc. in CA forests?
fire limits are seasonal and elevation affected. search the nfs/nps sites for local restrictions. same with bearcans. the actual bears here are all timid black bears, stand tall and yell load and they'll go away.
>all I own is cotton jeans and jackets so how fucked am I come March?
you'll be fine. just check the forecasts and don't expect to do too much skiing this season.
What is the most aesthetic wilderness, /out/?
Probably western Canada. Lots of Canada (especially northern) you can still walk places no one has ever been before.
>>930861
What places are those?
>>930861
This. Northern Canada is a massive vast wilderness
What is the best /out/ saw and why is it the Dustrude buck saw?
>>930824
Saws are tools. They come in many styles for specific uses. The best saw is the style of saw specially designed for the job you want to perform with it.
So, what jobs are you going to perform while out? Pair the correct saw with those jobs.
>>930852
this packs smaller
Boreal 21 is way better. Dustrude's wooden handle absorbs water.
Does being /out/ lead to more frequent BRAAAAAAAAAPs?
I need to know for reasons.
it's the food, just wait for her to be the first one to fart if you want to be a fedora gentleman
Who actually farts in this the year 2017? Been holding that gas in for nigh on 20 years now. Get with the program fools.

Too much sun and not enough water?
Does /out/ like Scuba diving?

just got back from grand cayman. did two days of dives and then some snorkeling and diving the rest of the week. live in PNW though, so im still figuring out where to go to see life and not get washed out to sea or eaten by sharks...north end of juan de fuca and the sound seem good...wish i lived in florida though. portland sucks for diving....
Never dove before. Signed up for padi certification courses.
Any advice for new diver?
ok /out/, discuss trundling and why you are willing to hike/climb long distances just to do it. Do you bring tools like a prybar?

Anyone seen their channel on youtube? They transformed old Volvo bus into camper like house for around 20k$ and live in it driving around different cool locations. Is this the dream?
>>923961
>Is this the dream?
Yes, but its not a perfect dream. Wish I could do this but you get tied down but a lot of things quickly.. I'm 100 percent sure Im gonna regret that I didnt do something like that.
20k? Thats 19,500 too much for me OP.
>is this the dream?
>>923961
20K?
Did they use gold somewhere?
I know there is a Fishing and Tackle thread, but how about a thread dedicated to just fly fishing specifically.
Post stories, pics, techniques, flies you've tied, and anything else related to fly fishing.
I'll start.
I caught this 23" Brown Trout this past summer. Caught him on an Olive Green Bead Head Wooly Bugger. Released him safe and sound to the creek.
Some say the wooly bugger is cheating because it works a lot of the time, but I don't care. As long as I am catching fish I really don't care.
>>923082
How is a bugger cheating? I've never heard that before. Awesome fish, where'd you catch it?
Caught pic related and a few more larger rainbows on Christmas Eve. It was the first time I threw a euro-style nymph rig, and I had success before getting hopelessly tangled and struggling to tie on a new setup with cold hands.
Any tips for keeping double nymph setups tangle free? Next time I want to try a drop shot rig like Kelly Galloup uses (google it)

Chama River in New Mexico, where I was fishing
Were/are you a Boy Scout/Varsity Scout?
>>922500
I'm an Eagle Scout.
I started Tiger Scouts when I was 5 and spent all 13 years in Scouts.
>>922501
Same. Cheers brother.
>>922500
what the fuck is a varsity scout?
I got life scout, but then I decided I liked banging grils so I dropped out.
Didn't see one and was told this was the board to go to for such matters.
Essentially, I will be homeless within the week and thought it'd be a great opportunity to see the states.
My questions are: what do I need to bring, what is the best way to get from place to place, and generally what should I expect from traveling?
Where are you located anon?
This is a big question because I need to find a place to urinate and my favorite place is on the bums in my city.
I love you.
>>919974
Appalachia
I don't even have to pay you? That would be quite a bargain my friend, I appreciate the offer.
>>919952
Nice Boots and anyway to get around Walking, Riding a bike, short bus rides nothing to long if you really want to explore the country
Where can I learn how to turn a hole in the ground into a comfortable, insulated place to rest?
Google keeps giving me man-cave advice. I want to know how to chill in an actual cave, or just take a shovel to the side of a hill to make a hidey-hole, and do it with natural materials, no plastic sheeting or foam insulation.
>>917493
Then find a cave.
