Is it possible to grow seasonal crops throughout the year in a nicely sized backyard ( in New Zealand) that could sustain all need to actually purchase veges.
>If so, what are the better crops for each so to grow that provide the necessary nutrition and volume to provide meals year round.
>>934440
Thanks, was searching for something along the likes of that.
>>934410
I remember seeing an Aussie's Youtube channel about doing just that. Seemed like a 'burb-sized backyard, too; so that's probably what you're looking for. Try searching around for aquaponic gardening. In one ep, his fish die and he uses them as fertilizer, that's the channel if you can find it.
Personally, I'd recommend devoting a small section to soy, pumpkin and corn(maize) grown together and tight, they're symbiotic; the whole of all three plants (fruit, leaf and stalk) dried, pulverized and mixed together can be used as feed for rabbits, chicken or fish (or anything, really, but those are best for backyards) and provide all their necessary nutrients at the highest production per sqft I've mathed for.

Thoughts? Good or Bad? Neutral? Other?
this can't possibly be good

How many of you /out/ists voted for these clowns? You don't have to speak up here but you should write them & voice your displeasure.
I do at least half of my camping on BLM land. I don't care about politics and budget and economy or whatever. So yes, this is pretty bad in my humble opinion
why arent you guys down here in mexico escaping the cold?
plenty of /out/ related activities in every direction from beach camping to mountain and rock climbing.
the tourists decided not to come this year even though the peso is so weak that everything is half off what it was a year ago.
TLDR /out/ Mexico thread.
How cheap is it to rent in San Lucas?
>>933522
San Lucas is pretty outrageous for my mexican poorfag standards. Maybe look into La Paz instead.
Rally bugs looks so fucking cool
Thinking about buying this simple tent, do you guys know the brand?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006V2B2I/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=marketorder-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B0006V2B2I&linkId=28ea35ff6b344c2b3fdb4d9b4c64d7a9
Any other tent recommendations are welcome as well I ahve a budget of 50$ max but I really liked this clean cut look
Out dated design. Won't do well in wind.
>>933443
There's a reason this style tent has fallen out of favor. There's better designs out there.
hello /out/ , today I intended to go hog/boar hunting in north Florida but was told by my friend's redneck neighbor that the temperature needed to freeze 2-3 nights in a row to kill all the worms in the animals' meat.
is he retarded or is there really worms in all the wild meat out there? i remember that scene in Into The Wild where emile hirsch finds wormies in a moose he shot? i kinda forgot about that until this morning when old cracker said that shit.
pls help
Put it in the freezer for a week and cook well
>>933100
lol
I've heard rabbits and stuff are safer in the winter with regards to parasites, but even if it is true it has absolutely nothing to do with freezing temps killing the parasites in the meat. Warm blooded animals keep their bodies at a fairly consistent temperature regardless of weather.
>>933100
Wild hogs are known to carry roundworms which cause trichinosis. You can get it from any pork, but it has been basically eliminated from farm raised pigs.
Freezing can help, but you need to freeze for at least 3 weeks, and even then it doesn't kill all types of the worm. The best way is to just fully Cook the meat. Use a meat thermometer to make sure. Has to be at least 160 degrees internal temp. Doing so ensures it will be dead.
Your redneck neighbor has the right idea, but freezing for 3 days doesn't really do anything.
The disease isn't life threatening anyways if you do get it, just sucks and you need meds for a while.
The worms aren't like earthworms, they're tiny. Like needing a microscope to see them. Worms won't crawl out when you cut the hog open.
Thoughts on using a downsuit for Alpinism at 15,000-20,000 feet? I'm planning some assents of the Andes and I really hate the idea of wearing 8 layers and would much rather keep my pack minimal
Is this suicidal? Will I over heat? I don't see them used outside of the Himalayas so what's the catch
>planning mountaineering trips in the andes
>can't answer questions like this yourself
probably want to get a little more experience first, anon...
>>931346
Your not planning ascents in the Andes. Why are you asking this question? Is it part of your fantasy?
the catch is they're hot as shit? have you ever been mountaineering? yes its cold but you're also exherting yourself in the sun all fucking day.
> would not wear outside of antarctica / 10
You and 2 friends have 300 dollars to buy stuff to survive a year in the dinosaur age. You each get a free pair of jeans, tee-shirt, socks and new balance sneakers. What elese would you buy

It's always been a fantasy of mine to train hop across the USA. I have seen some videos and the sites look amazing. Does anyone have any experience with doing this?
It's a felony and the train police are Brutual people. If they go easy on you expect to be tarred and feathered, worse case they beat and lynch you

I hardly ever see good cars for this. Most of them seem like they're the cylinder tanker types
Hello /out/,
It is pretty rare for me to lurk here, I usually lurk on /k/ although sometimes similar topics can be interchangeable.
I will get onto the main point now. I usually wear jeans everyday and craghoppers whilst /out/. I would like to wear utility style pants everday too but craghoppers are really baggy on me and I look full spurg when I wear them casually. Can you suggest any afforable /fa/ pants similar to pic related?

Anyone into archery here?
Just started out and bought this.
I got a Mathews Halon 6. I bought a cheap sight, release, quiver and arrows to use until I get better that way I have the nice bow once I get good enough for it to matter and can just get better accessories.
The eventual goal is back country hunting and hiking out in Arizona and the rest of the west.
Watching Cameron Hanes and "Dude Weed" Joe Rogan convinced me to get one. I already have a Tikka t3x lite in .270 winchester for rifle hunts and a shotgun and .22 rifle for other hunts while I get good with the bow. Steven Rinella also inspired me to ake hunting back up this year.
Been doing a lot of 10 mile rabbit search hikes for trail workouts as well. Hiking is a lot different with a rifle man. Used to be from the midwest. No tree stand shit anymore is nice.
Anyone else near phoenix want to go shoot some arrows?
The day I hit 70 yard shots well I am getting better sights, arrows, and bow gear for the Halon base.
>>928302
My target from the first day at 15 or 20 yards. I don't remember which honestly lol.
>>928302
Also if anyone knows some ranges besides papago park in scottsdale/Tempe or Usery out by bush highway in Arizona let me know. Not that I couldn't just go in the desert but still.....

is there anything wrong with wearing a mil spec backpack while camping, will other hikers give the look?
>>928153
Fuck'em who cares, it will probably be the only time you even make contact with that particular person for the rest of your life.
Not everyone likes spending 200+ dollaredos on a pack.
>>928153 are you full camo gear with a stupid scout hat and sunglasses staring at people across campgrounds you will. but most hikers look at your food for judgement
>>928154
this guy gets it
why would you give a shit what a person that you will never see again thinks about your backpack choice
99.9999999999% of hikers don't give a shit what pack you have.

Does anyone else constantly fantasize about being something they aren't and never will be? For example I really wish I was a country boy or mountainman kind of person. Every time I meet someone who was raised in the country I get insanely jealous.
>constantly reading about big northern flyover states
>Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Alaska
>fantasize about being a hardy mountain man with a homestead and lots of kids
>dream about saving up and starting a farm when I want to retire
>want to be neighbors with Amish, preppers, farmers who still speak Swedish, gun nuts, cowboys, fundamentalist Christian cultists, white separatists, ourdoorsmen, and various other eccentric people
>in real life I'm an urban millennial who spends all his time on 4chan pretending
>>926424
Weird, I am all those things but in the SW.
I did.
Then I realized nothing was in my way to achieve it.
So I worked my ass off for months, bought a plane ticket, acquired a visa, and packed my gear.
Leaving in 12 days. Gonna roam around Asia for some years as a nomad.
>>926443
good luck anon, you finally followed your dream. Some day I will join you.
