Hey y'all I got the gayle bradley bowie from spyderco. Paid $280 for it but the handle is a bit slick so I'm thinking about sanding the handle with some 80 or 100 grit sandpaper to add some texture, Is this a good or bad idea? Also what are some alternative ideas to add texture to a handle without tape
25 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I have that knife and love it. I'd only texture it with additional material (like tape, which you said you don't want). Tape would be my best choice.

They make texturizing spray paints which make it kinda grainy. You could test that on a different knife and see if it's ok... I've never used it for that personally.

They make rubber dips that you can texture after dipping. Again, I haven't done that on a knife.

I think sanding it is a bad idea, but it is your knife and your money.
>>
I did a wax cotten wrap on the handle but im still not 100 percent happy with it
>>
cant see why not op, as long as you do it consistently in all areas and don't take too much off. not speaking from experience.

Nope. They are heavier and thinner.. Just get a Zrest

Not those shitty thin ones, but sometimes you can find cheap exercise mats made of thicker lighter foam, those are sufficient I guess. Proper sleeping pad is better though.

Does /out/ gather anything when being /out/?
I am talking about foraging for sellable stuff. I always collected anything that I knew had any worth and sold it in bulk end of the month. Made about 900€ a month that way in spring/summer but I can't find anything new and I am bored.

Grew up in the Appalachias. Collecting Ginseng and Bloodroot is pretty normal. Gathering "dry land fish" is lucrative as well, though I enjoy eating them more than selling them.
When I was a kid we used to dig worms to sell at the local pond. $1 got you 2 dozen. Would make at most like $25 a day, but that seems like alot to a poorfag 10 year old.

Foot hills of the cascade mountains.
I use mushroom hunting as an excuse to get /out/ a basket of these gets me around $40. They bloom for 3-4 weeks a year
I can pick a basket an hour but not "legally" because of permits. If you are willing to break the rules there it room for huge profits from little risk.
I mean shit if you were to poach a deer and sell the meat you could make like $150-$200

This board seems to be full of suburbanite minimalists and gear-queers who take Bear Grylls and "survival" shows way to seriously.
Has anyone here ever actually spent significant time innawoods or innadesert? Conquered a major trail or mountain?
Actually used bushcraft to survive?

How difficult and dangerous is cutting trees with a chainsaw? I have literally zero experience but there's this job opportunity and they require none, so I can probably get the job if I apply. Also seems like they offer can mean doing properly arborist job in the medium-long term and since there's some anons here that do that for a living I would like very much your advice, thanks.

I did tree work for about 10 years. It can get pretty sketchy at times, but starting out I'm sure they wouldn't expect you to do anything overly difficult with a saw or on the ropes. Expect to spend a lot of time dragging brush.

Going out for an overnight tomorrow on the Loyalsock Trail in PA.

No goal for a distance, just going out with a buddy, hiking a distance, setting up camp, drink some good bourbon, and hike out the next day.

I'm at 20 lbs even, with 2 days of food, and 2 smaller bottles of bourbon, about 500ml . Not ultralight, but how am I doing? (I'm 6'1" 220 lbs).

R8 my W8, M8

Others post your pack and it's weight, so others can rate and belittle you until you cut a few lbs.

Should have broke it down before putting it together and gave us that photo.

None the less, I'm jealous of the poles and pack. IMHO if it's just an overnight camp and you don't have a far destination I say carry as much as you think you can.

I haven't weighed my out at all but the pack and bags are budget as fuck, those are two of my 3 big purchases this year, the third being a 20F or lower underquilt.

honda crv.

i have a 2004 and i rally it all over the sierra, and get 26 mpg the rest of the time.

admittedly not sporty at all, but i bought it because it has awd, good ground clearance, gets good mpg, and has tons of interior room for not too much exterior room, and it's never let me down.

and i love the looks when my stock cute-ute pulls up behind a lifted jeep 12 miles down a haggard forest service "road"

Me and my dad slept in the back of the truck once with a cap on it. Well I slept there and he was in a tent but a huge ass storm came in and he got in the truck.

Crazy thing it doesn't vent well so if one of you rips a big fart it is gas city and it don't go away. My dad did it was bad for us both.

I have a lot of experience, wouldn't do it any other way, but I've gone a ways past just sleeping on an inflatable mattress in the bed (that's how I started). What kind of truck do you have?
>>
>>934300
My truck has a permanent pvc canopy on a metal frame sort of like that.

Insulation is terrible, so is wind noise so choose parking carefully.

When its cold you will need a good blanket or three.

At first I'd just have cardboard as a sleeping mat/insulation. Then I ply lined the bed and got a foam mat.

Air mattress don't work for me because they're too soft and I keel tossing and turning.
A heavy blanket solves all of this and keeps you from moving.

Also jack stands, to keep the truck stable.

Everything else is pretty much like regular camping.

this is one of my favourite campsites, the tree's branches were hanging really low and hid our tent from anyone, which was useful as we were in Germany, where wild camping is illegal.

This is probably not the right place to ask but I thought maybe you fellas not have a few good ideas.

My fiancé is a forester and conservationist that specialises in GIS mapping and I haven't got a fucking clue what to get him for his upcoming birthday (which sadly for my purse, falls on the same day as Valentines).

He's been talking about getting his chainsaw license for a while but it's a bit out of my budget. Last year I bought him this special Swedish axe he wanted. I still don't know what made it special.

You guys all like outdoors shit right? What would YOU enjoy as a gift?

In the US you're allowed to operate a chainsaw in your work environment without proper training and certification? That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
