Hey guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm going innawoods (France, Ardennes) to camp solo with my dog. I have alot of experience to survive in the woods with my gear but never brought my dog with me. Got any tips to give her a good/comfortable night sleep while its -4 C.

I'm sleeping in a bivi with a DD tarp.

I lived in Wyoming, wouldn't even put it in the top 10 states. The answer is: depends. There's many states that aren't in the running, but best comes down to what you want to do. Best state to live? Visit? Raise a family? Too many factors for different lifestyles and interests.
>>
Obvious answer is obviou, my state.

Unless you don't like it. Then it IS my state, not yours.

I LOVE my state! It is truely doubtful you love yours as much as I mine, so again it is my state.

To say to yourself it is not my state is to say I'm right.

Hello, /out/
Here's a quick rundown.
I live on the front range of Colorado.
I want to travel to Limousin, France and meet Varg Vikernes, then I want to perhaps see the natural wonders of my ancestral homeland until finally settling down in the Carpathian mountains. I also want to do all of this on foot, taking a freighter ship across the Atlantic.
Is this physically possible? Should I go through New York or Florida? I know people have walked across the US. I know people Travel across Europe. I want to do both. I would most likely get a passport to cross the ocean but just become an illegal immigrant and squat in some abandoned house in the mountains at the end of my journey. Is crossing the borders in Europe an issue? How much do you think all this would cost? Will I die? Plz respond

I will never get this. I see this everywhere, my friends started using firesteels for lighting fires in their yards and when out in the forest.

Answer one simple question: Why not use a lighter or a pack of matches. This is a genuine question, I am not trying to be a dick or antyhing it just doesn't make sense to me. It is WAY less convenient, a blind man can see that.

There's no such thing as one knife to do every bushcraft or wood working task.

These clips are from a Danish museum's recreation of a viking ship. And while it's not bushcraft, it is wood craft, so it's relevant to the point I'm trying to make.

If you watch the video, you'll see he uses a froe to split logs, not a knife. He also describes how the froe is intentionally dull (to push end grain apart, rather than cut it) and how the wood is carefully selected to be straight grained and knot free. THIS IS THE PROPER WAY TO SPLIT AND CARVE WOOD WITH KNIFE AND KNIFE LIKE TOOLS.

You can also see that when it comes to carving he uses a small, THIN, little knife. Not some overbuild monstrosity like the Tracker or a mall ninja zombie short sword.

I don't know if it was marketing hype or if the prepper crowd are playing a role playing without their own knowledge, but the idea that you should have one tool to baton through your knotted firewood one minute and carve holes for your bucksaw the next minute is, well, just bloody foolish.

It's certainly not an idea born of experience.

>>
>>934360
Yes a froe is a tool intended to be batoned. And you use it to make straight splits that you cannot get with an axe. As I see it batoning a knife is retarded, you don't need a knife bigger than a mora for any woodworking. For anything bigger you need an axe.

But I have to say Romania isn't bad either. Did some hiking in the Făgăraș, and Romanian hiking infrastructure - waymarking, cabins, routes etc - is world class. Iron curtain meant Romanians spent most holidays in Romania, which led to the development of a massive hiking infrastructure.

You arent going to get on a crew, I guarantee it. No matter what fishing town, there will always be locals who need a fishing job, and any captain would rather have a local alaskan as a greenhorn than some kid looking for a thrilling job. I know this for favt because Im from Valdez and I grew up stacking net and taking jellyfish to the face

kayak is so fucking fun, both inland and at coast. bring stuff too heavy for backpack, like beers, large axe and iron pan. maybe extra kayak, so i can pick up a mate with shrooms. lsd is better for making any worthwhile distance though. protip: even the shittiest kayak is better than no kayak, get one faggot. i would almost say it is worth having a car just to move it to and from the water. i'm wondering about getting another shitty kayak just like the one i already have (pic related) for coupling them as a catamaran, maybe with a sail or something.

How do you make sure you dont get blisters when hiking?
Also how do you care for your hard skin/callouses?

I feel if i went hiking i would spend every other day taking care of my messed up feet.

>>
>>945460
Wear different shoes. Your footwear shouldn't give your feet trouble. Ever.
>>
>>945460
There are socks with two layers that prevent blisters by rubbing the two layers and not your feet and the socks.
>>
>>945460
No friction = no blister.

It is THAT easy.
The best way to deal with blisters is to not have them. The best way to deal with blisters once you have them is to prevent them from growing.

Check your foots twice a day, use sparadrap where you feel the fiction. talc for babie's diaper help reduce whatever friction is left and will deal with the sweat.

How do I not get spooked from going /out/ ?

Has anyone tried their hand at growing american or asian ginseng?

I am considering buying some seeds and roots and trying my hand at cultivating it. I scoured the green space around my town, but haven't found a single plant. It seems kinda lame to have to buy the plants myself, when finding your own wild ones is half the fun, but I just can't find any.

Ginseng that's worth any money takes years to grow. Not one or two, ten or twenty. Five year plants are the smallest you can legally dig in here in WI. Cultivated ginseng is worth considerably less than wild ginseng, and buyers can tell just by looking at it. To get the most bang for your buck, you have to put it in the ground and just let it grow, no fertilizer or anything.

What state are you in? Ginseng is really hard to find. I didn't find anything last year, and I was in good spots.
