When you go /out/ do you prefer a simple analog watch or a digital watch with a lot of features (stopwatch, barometer, etc.)

Also watch general, this is my every day beater. Going to put a leather strap on it soon.

Simple analog. I was thinking about dyeing the straps black since the green has faded.

Analog watch, NATO strap. A rotating bezel is all the stopwatch I need for /out/ stuff.
>>

This model of citizen has been my favorite watch I have ever owned, but the fact that it doesn't have a rotating bezel rustles me to my core.

Everyone here likes to be outside, but what exactly have you done to actively to preserve nature and the environment?
I regulary collect trash if I come by it, but of course it would be much better if I would not find any at all. I also helped planting trees for my local forester and from time to time I just bury some more exotic bushes and trees on the roadside.
(Note that "exotic" in this context only means I use those, that are not used as cash crops for the lack of a better word. They are not neophytes)

It's fine if you don't want to do anything, but at least don't actively destroy just to be contrarian.
I can understand that my post might sound up tight assholey, but that might be because english is not my first language, so I might sound over self righteous. Sorry for that.

Can I waterproof cotton with pure beeswax?

I looked around on google and everybody says to mix wax with other shit. Would I be able to just rub a brick of beeswax on the cloth and melt it(?) And it would be good, or would it flake and crack or something?

>>
Prolly gonna lose some insulating properties with that magic trick.
>>
You're gonna be a giant hippie candle.
>>
Why don't you try it on a small piece of cloth with a small peace of wax?

That's great man! You've got your foot in the door. I passed up my chance with USFS right after college. Didn't want to move cause wife had 6 figure phamrep job. I don't regret being married; but I do feel like I sold out. What was your major, or do you even have to have a degree for that there?

I hear meth is pretty great.

Know a bunch of guys that lived there (and evanston, rangely, rock springs), there's a reason they don't live there anymore.

I'm a fisheries major but I'm just accepting a job internship there for the summer.

How does that even work? I thought your belt line was supposed to be under your gut. Her pants are basically around her belly button there, right?

That's not why we are staring.

The worst part is these hose beasts actually say that shit, in a real world version of lumpy space voice.
>>
>>954003
if youre only using if for shade then just get the cheapest tarp you can find at wal-mart. you didnt need to ask /out/ this question...

First time leading a group of friends (4-8 people) into the woods for a few days. We're hiking through some national parks in Utah and camping in state forests.

For the most part none of them have any extensive knowledge of the outdoors. What is the best way to set up a campsite and take care of this many people?

Also any general tips/stories about leading a group on a camping trip.

do you not have a smartphone? if so, just by an arm strap and download a free app that utilizes the built in accelerometer. If you don't have a smartphone....why the fuck not? I use the nike+ app for all my runs. 20 dollar arm strap + iphone bro.

Last summer a guy was falling an oak, it was a big oak with low big branches which he didn't cut.
The wind started blowing and the oak sit on his bar while making the backcut so he sent his son to get another chainsaw to free the saw.
While he was waiting for the son the wind suddenly changed direction and the tree began falling, while it was falling it surprised the faller and grabbed him by the shoulder throwing him on the ground and he hit his head on the stump but in the meanwhile the tree fell on its branches, springed up and then came back down crushing the guy's head on the stump

Couple years ago a guy was falling a large beech in the snow and he couldn't see under the snow that its branches were twined with a pear there nearby, which was rotten. As the beech began falling it pulled on the rotten pear and it fell down on the guy's head killing him instantly
