Going winter camping with the lady in CO, and I've usually used dried meats/hard cheeses/non perishable/nontemp foods for eating whenever I go for day hikes or camps solo, but since I've recently come into a food dehydrator, I want to try some dehydrated meals.

I've only got like a 350ml cheap aluminum cup that I've ever used for oatmeal, but have been eyeing the Toaks 750ml for myself for the stews/chili that I plan on prepping for us. Also using the Toaks for boiling water in general.

But are there any other similar or better price/quality products that would allow for her to get her own (She's adamant about buying her own gear, because she wants to do this more than once with me, but she's also buying a bit more gear since she doesn't have as much winter ready kit as I do. I'd like to help her out by finding her a budget friendly pot that way she's not trying to east out of a 350ml)

Cabin porn/general cabin info thread.

I'm moving to a cabin with no running water, wood heat, and currently wired for 12V DC, but the last tenant to his solar panels with him. The structure is probably 15 x 20, one floor with loft. I have to rebuild the outhouse and tear off the porch, then worry about getting the inside comfy.

For the inside, the first priority will be backup heat. I'm planning on a wall-mount infrared propane heater, because the place has a propane range and (maybe functional) propane fridge. All it has to be able to do is keep the place at 45°F when the woodstove isn't going.

I'd like to hear any comments or ideas, or recommendations for what else I can do to cozy it up.

Pic is not it, but similar.

How will you do hygiene and poops?
I have a cabin with an out house and a hand pump well. And i still get tired of being dirty all the time
>>
>>1081802

Primary home or temporary getaway? Pic looks like a rape waiting to happen, needs more open space so forest niggers can't sneak around
>>
>>1081809
I have the option of showering at my girlfriend's place, which isn't far. Outhouse will be primary pooper, but I can always go at work, or again, girlfriend's place.

>>1081817
Primary residence. It's not actually as bad as the cabin in the pic; it just needs a few things and I think it'll be pretty nice.

Such nature. Much hike. Kungsleden must be babby tier hiking. Is there also wheelchair access? When I was hiking with a group through some bogs we actually used oversized snowshoe things. Heavy as fuck but you didn't sink up to your ballsack in mud.

Much more destructive to the enviroment. But who cares as long as it can make you feel like a 18th century trapper.

Crazy idea, right? But we will be traveling for about three weeks and bringing the baby with us. Its mostly a scouting trip to see where we wanna move. So far we are planned for mt Rushmore and Yellowstone park. Need a lot if advise to survive the long trip.

Will also keep thread open for updates when trip starts

Those are areas of interest we will be seeing and will aim for but we are generally looking for northern cooler states stopping along the way to check places out. We don't have an rv and can't afford hotels. We are camping every night for three weeks. Also not looking to move to a city so rural areas are what we are going to poke around at

Hi y'all, /out/! First of all, i'd like to tell you i've never posted anything before, as i was basically a lurker, but i want to go /out/ for the first time, and i couldn't think of any place better to ask for tips.
For starters, i live near seville, in spain, and i'd like to try staying a couple of days in the woods, isolated of any human contact, but i don't really know a place in which i could do that, and i want to make sure what i'm doing isn't illegal. And, although many spanish woods are like pic related this time of year, i'd love to stay in a green forest, so i could wait until winter, or take a train to the north part of spain.
Anyways, i'd be thankful if y'all could help me with anything: any piece of advice, any indispensable tool, any cool place to stay or any book you recommend to avoid dying innawoods would be bless, and i thank y'all in advance for everything.
I'm sorry if my english isn't perfect, or if i broke any rule, as i'm new in this board!

Any Composters here?

Free, bulk sources of compostable ingredients:
- Used coffee grinds (ask local cafe, high nitrogen)
- Pine shavings (ask local pet stores that sell birds CAUTION may contain antimicrobials fed to birds)
- Dry leaves (mulching speeds composting)
- Lawn clippings (contains seeds, mulch compost heavily when used)

General Rules:
- Add a mix of dry (carbon) and green (nitrogen) ingredients to get compost cooking quickly.
- Turning compost speeds decomposition
- Add worms after temperature drops and the pile will start to become worm castings

I am surprised that living in a village, there are households around that own a biological trash can instead of setting up a compost. To me, it just seems like an obvious thing but I guess some people don't want to deal with a compost or something.
When it comes to composting, we don't really complicate things, it's mostly just leftovers that go in there, sometimes leaves too; we don't bother with grass, it just stays where it fell.
>>
Yeah it's pretty simple once you see it break down and do it's thing. Some may be put off if they add too much wet stuff and it forms a stinky pile of aerobic muck.
Where does your compost get put to use?

Metal detectors thread.

What do you think of the Minelab X-terra 705? Looking to buy one and go trekking using the same pathways as the Romans of yore in the hopes I'll find some coins. Might also explore old abandoned houses.

Reminder a good metal detector will have differing colours depending on the metal type, depth, general mapping of the shape and so on.

Does /out/ know about metal detectors?

What budget should I set myself before vandwelling?
I am looking to be as frugal as possible, so no fancy solar panels, showers or kitchen. I can cook on campfires.
I'm aiming for about 2000 to 4000 dollars budget and I haven't bought my van yet.

I was looking at the Ford Econoline for stealth parking at night.
Any tips on vandwelling?
94 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
Why a van? Get a focus/old jap SUV like a Highlander. Unless you're very tall, sleeping in a focus would be plenty comfy and get double the gas mileage.
>>
Can be done for $2000 but its a stretch.
I did it for less. Not sure of the exact sum.

A circular saw, a drill, and a speed square are everything you need build the interior.
And you can do it while on the road.

Buy the van, but the three tools on amazon, tear out the interior, and move in.

Buy or borrow anything else when the need arises.
>>
>>1082516
Low roof. Can't even sit up and piss proper in a wagon.

Besides, the superior wagon for sleeping are 80's Mercedes, Peugeot, BMW, and Volvo.
First two even come with diesels for muh economy.
