Any recommendations for hunting backpacks?
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>

Your regular backpack with a hunting sled.
>>
An external frame that you can attach differently sized rucksacks to.

Duh?

You're going to literally just need a bare frame so you can hold any weight, and also change cubic capacity depending on needs.

I will be going hiking for a week in Iceland this summer, it will be my first full out hike, are there any locals here that can recommend any trails or tips? I have a friend who lives there, but want to see what else I can find out

I went on holiday and did a two day walk that was amazing, would definitely have loved to do more walking there. Pretty easy to get to on public transport, and has accommodation.

Oh wow, that's neat, I've actually read about that mountain, I will read through your post later today, it's good that I'm only hearing good things about Iceland, really excited to go there, the full length of that trail was 50km as I understand?

I'm new to this stuff, but I went exploring under a few bridges near me, and there were a few sketchy ass concrete tunnels I walked through too. Pic related is taken from the underpass nearby where you're meant to walk.

I'm still new to this, so it was a nice entry level spot.

Planning to go to some other , less boring, areas with some friends of mine in the next few weeks.

Apparently there's an abandoned facility near me that's pretty well traveled that looks terrifying at night. We're planning to break in an take pics.

I have a few stories from other short expeditions, but they're all lame as shit and either involve foxes being creepy or old white people trying to call the cops on me.

I'm in Syds and kinda interested in ErBexxing with any local anons. Nothing too crazy I can't get into any trouble with the law.

There's an old hospital and a catholic school I managed to look around a few years back, unfortunately they're both looked after by caretakers now.

Crossbow, airsoft rifle or a firearm? And why?

>>
Pellet gun. Because fun.
>>
>>958954
An actual gun because I'm not a fag.
>>
>>958954

Personally I'd find an actual firearm to be the most satisfying out of those three. Although that in and of itself is still pretty vague.

Airsoft is a toy
Crossbows are boring, though very capable
Firearm is most capable, interesting mechanically, and you can always find a way of pushing your own limits and challenging yourself in terms of your marksmanship.

Hey /out/. Army fag here, I was really wanting to get out and see North Carolina instead of sitting around the barracks and drinking every weekend. Does anyone in the area know any awesome hikes. The ones I've been looking at are like 4 hours away and if I have to I will, but Im looking for something closer.

The best hiking in North Carolina is in the Appalachians north and west of Asheville, so you may have to drive a ways to do what you want to do.

I'm not as familiar with the rest of the state, but there may be something closer to you in Uwharrie National Forest or Bladen Lakes State Forest. The coast is supposed to be pretty nice too (if you're into coastal /out/ stuff), especially the Cape Hatteras/Pamlico Sound area.
>>
>>958973
I'll definitely check out the coastal stuff. I'm pretty southwest

There are some group buys on Cumulus sleeping bags, but I just missed one.

http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu/uk/categories/sleeping-bags/down-sleeping-bags

Anybody interested in a group buy? I live in the Netherlands so distributing everything would be easier if only dutchies participate but neighbouring countries wouldn't be that difficult either.

I read that if the group total would be above 2000 euro's the following rules would apply:
20% off all the standard stuff
15% off personalized changes (you can choose another color fabric or ask to make it shorter/longer, fill it up more etc)
5 % off of matresses.

Anybody interested?

If we reach 10+ people this should work. Like a mini-massdrop.

no. but having gone somewhere similar in geophysics field school I can recommend a light collared long sleeved shirt, 1.5x-2x the amount of water you think you'll need., and a wide brimmed hat. if there are snakes you should pay attention to where you're walking as they often sun themselves on paths. I'd guess flash floods might be a danger this time of year so watch out for slot canyons if there are any. bring your shoes in the tent with you so scorpions and tarantulas don't get in there (again just guessing from pictures). Me I'd go with light pants vs shorts. Hopefully the bump gets someone with actual experience to answer.

yes, it's gorgeous. was there fore the climbing.
if you're camping out/overnighting you've gotta plan for freezing temps at night. it can dump rain (especially this season).
depending on where you go, trails can be easy if a bit steep. off-trail (like for accessing climbs and weirder features) can be anything from strenuous to precipitous.
be very careful of local plantlife- they're slow growers- but also wear long pants/sleeves. there are several kinds of prickers, the worst of which is a bush with tentacle/whiplike branches completely covered in backward-facing thorns; deeply unpleasant on exposed skin.

bring extra water, wear sunscreen, bugs aren't really a problem, keep your eyes on your feet for both lots of loose rock and possible snakes (I never saw any of the latter).
always wash your hands before eating if you grab cracks or ledges while scrambling around; there's packrat nests and piss everywhere and in addition to garden variety gross, can carry hantavirus.

the all you can eat breakfast buffet at the red rock hotel/casino is cheap and awesome if you're a few days in and low on calories. it's well outside the strip and close to the park so you don't even have to mess with vegas issues.

its just going to be a 1 mile hike or so. I have a 25oz steel water bottle I think I will take.

My prof recommended a peanut butter and jelly sandwich since those keep well while you hike. We are planning on stopping in a mountain town for BBQ on the way back to Bakersfield

Anyone know of any good weekend backpacking trails in the Adirondacks? Preferably 2-3 days to complete and not too hard, my sister wants to come with me.

I'll start off by suggesting the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness region. For a nice weekend with great views:
1. Park off of NY-74 and follow the blue trail markers for the Long Swing Trail for 2.8 miles.
2. Take the left fork towards Crane Pond for 0.3 miles
3. From Crane Pond: Follow the Crane Pond Trail south .6 mile to the start of the loop.
4. Veer left to hike the route clockwise. Reach 440-acre Pharaoh Lake’s north shore at mile 3.2.
5. Merge onto the Long Swing Trail and continue 1.4 miles east and south to Lean-to #3.
6. Follow the shoreline 1.7 miles to a fork at the lake’s southern tip.
7. Turn east onto West Shore Trail and hike 1.3 miles to the Pharaoh Mountain Trail.
8. Ascend 1,300 switchbackless feet to the summit of 2,556-foot Pharaoh Mountain (mile 8.9).
9. Continue 2.3 miles back down the mountain.
10. Turn left to exit the loop and head 0.6 miles back towards Crane Pond.
11. Continue 0.3 miles to the fork, then turn right onto the Long Swing Trail.
12. Hike 2.8 miles back to the parking lot.

What's the trick with long distance walking?
After about 15 miles my dogs are barking and I can't go on.
I have proper footwear, cushioned inserts and padded socks... but they still ache like a hell of a thing.

Is it just conditioning?

The gf and I want to go stargazing in a hammock but while buying materials I came across a fork in the road.

We're in TX by the way where it drops to 40°F at night at the moment.

>do I buy a cheap tent, sleeping bag, and insulation pads for us to jump in when it gets too cold?

>or do I shell out the cash for a nice cold proof two person hammock?

>shit, there's another question: which type of a hammock do I get?

Get a regular cheap hammock from Walmart and wear a coat or sweater, 40°F isn't very cold.

Horseshit is good for those. Make compost dirt with your leftover organic foods etc. before spring starts, add some worms to speed up the process. If you want to, find out where your specific seed is from and then simulate the things that the dirt in it have around that place.
