What is the most devastating natural disaster barring a massive asteroid strike?
Hurricane?
Tornado?
Volcano?
Tsunami?
Earthquake?
Mankind.

Ah, look what I found,
https://imgur.com/9iTglad
I knew this original version had to be out there somewhere online. Glad someone uploaded it some place else.
Today I started my first experiment planting three zucchini seeds. Gave them all their own little pot, with plans to put them in a larger container later in april. For now, I'll grow them in my room (around 10 degrees celcius).
So, how are you guys doing?
>>958320
I always count on the worst. However, I have grown tomatoes through a snowy winter before using layers of plastic over them. Then a bit of heat and a fan when it got really cold. Those might need a second layer over them if temps drop. If you place bottles of water around them that will help for temp swings.
>>958322
How many seeds are in each pot?
>So, how are you guys doing?
Waiting patiently for Wednesday to start planting: >>958309
It is going to be scary because there will be so much to keep track of this year. This will be the first time I can fully plant my raised bed garden.

Are they fulfilling? Meaningful?
For the last couple years I have been waving through life, I need to do something somehow challenging
Are they fulfilling? Maybe
Meaningful? Maybe
challenging? Yes
Did the PCT and loved it. Ignore that Debbie Downer slowhiker who chimes in to say it's work, it's hard, I'm weak bla bla.

My thru hike last summer felt like it was 10 years ago already. Whether its' fulfilling or meaningful, the feeling isn't lasting. It's just another thing I did last summer, nbd. What next?
I'm preparing for my first trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains area with my gf and deciding to do some light camping. I have a few questions about the area in general and was hoping some fellow anons here would help a brother /out/...
>Any recommended trails or fun things to check out?
>Is it possible to camp overnight (inna woods style) on any of the trails. If so, any good locations?
>Any general tips to keep in mind about the area?
>>962248
Whereabouts in the blue ridge are you hiking? I lived in the Asheville area a bit, and the first things that come to mind are town/activity of hot springs, tubing in the french broad and sliding rocks/waterfalls if you're looking for outdoor stuff.
I did a wee bit of the Appalachian trail nearby and that had shelters every so often where you could typically put up a tent or cleared out areas. I think Great Smoky Mountains park has free backpacking camp permits.
Nothing stands out to keep in mind other than that the elevations can make things colder than you might expect.
>>962248
Aye mate, was in the blue mtns today, went up a bit past mt tomah, noice and comfy with this rain. Found some good muddy carparks so did a few skids in the stato aye
Would be pretty mint owning a nice house and land there, would mean ya don't have to worry about some drongo cunts if you're out on a walk aye
Anyway top stuff mate have a good one
>>962248
walked this stretch last year. for a few scenic areas and cool rock formations i liked dragons tooth, mcafees knob and tinker cliffs.
yes theres multiple huts around these destinations with camping and privvys, although the one north of tinkercliff was closed due to bears last year.
if you look up these places they're on the AT so theres heap of info.
>>962311
valid point that the blue ridge is quite long, can you access the whole thing or what? Franklin NC and Ashville NC were probably the nicest towns i stopped in. Luray just near Shanandoah NP has natural caves and you can go tubing on the river. shanandoah NP is full of bears though.
for the walks and views that were on the AT though i'd suggest dragons tooth and mcafees knob.
I've been keeping my gear in a messy pile, what's the best way to organise it? I have plenty of space for it.
>>960350
The best to organize it is the way that's easiest for you to remember so that way you're not scrambling trying to find things before you leave.
>>960350
>how do I organize my stuff
is pretty general
But, never store your sleeping bag stuffed in a stuff sack

Anyone raising animals with 0% store bought feed?
All food coming from kitchen scraps or foraging.
Please share your story.

It's expensive and most of them die from improper nutrition.
>>954106
Expensive how?

Grow maize, soy and pumpkin together in the same patch (they are meant to be crowded). Separate into chunks and sun dry all parts of all plants after harvest and pulverize into granules for storage. Soak each days' worth of granules overnight to make mash for feeding livestock.
Any grain, any legume and any cucurbit should work for this, but I chose the ones I did because they typically produce a larger volume of nutrient-dense seeds and straw (and in the case of pumpkin, fruit) as well as being relatively fast-growing crops that may yield more than one harvest per season, depending on climate. The mash should be edible to swine, bovine, equine, fuzzy bunnies, and all fowl, as well as humans, though many people may find the amount of dietary fiber to be excessive.
Nutrient availability and caloric quantity may increase by fermenting the mash, but you might need to keep an eye on the microflora to prevent undesired bacterial growth. (I don't do this, just saw it on YT once and thought it may also be of interest to you).
I know this'll raise some eyebrows but.. is anyone into UFO spotting?
I'd love to get into it and I'm looking for any stories, inspiration and advice
Tried it for just about every night for around a year. I'm a pretty science based guy and never saw anything even remotely unexplainable. watching the sky at night is cool though when you can find the ISS and watch it cross the night sky.
Going /out/ tonight. The UFO is in the tail of the comet. Gonna wear my new Nikes!
>>955424
ISS is cool to see. On clear days I can see the bigger launches from Canaveral, it's amazing how fast those things get up there. I gotta take a trip up there to see one up close.
It would be cool to see a UFO. Some anon posted a Phoenix pic they took in a thread on /b/ the other day and that was spoopy. And a couple of my friends drove from Chicago to Cali a few years back and they are both 100% positive they saw a UFO somewhere in Nebraska in the middle of the night and neither of those dudes are into shit like that so idk what to think.
Hello /out/, I would like to share with you some experiences I have had with dangerous as fuck wildlife for your mild amusement. Pls like, subscribe, and add your own stories, I would love to hear them.
>group of 4 of us hiking the lost coast trail 100 miles north of San Francisco
>we're fairly good at camping/hiking at this point, one of us is an eagle scout
>cook, sleep, and store food 100 yards from each other like good boys
>have bear canisters for food, stash our packs nearby
>go to bed because tired
>wake up, go to get bagels and tea for breakfast
>mysterious white goo starts popping up on the way there, Cali is weird
>find our packs, one is shredded to the point where you couldn't carry anything in it except maybe a sleeping bag
>find Mark's rekt to shit toothpaste tube nearby
Fuck bears. We had to split up the load which was an extra 15 lbs each

>we look for it he's still there, (on later inspection looks like he struck at me but he got the pack instead)
>thanks Osprey
>he's not moving
>we throw rocks at it for 15 minutes
>nail him a couple times but he doesn't leave
>buddy decides enough is enough
>bashes it repeatedly with a long ass stick till he dead
>continue on our journey
this was not the only mishap on our trip

> Getting stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha, NE
what are the best places to visit within 500 miles?
Western Nebraska isn't all corn, cucks, and black bucks.
Pine Ridge, and Scotts Bluff.
You you need to realize the people there are the lazy quitters who couldn't make it out west.
Badlands NP is all I can think of
>>953108
Former Omahan here, current Lincolnite.
The closest thing to Offut is Gifford Point WMA, pretty big forest and flood plains. It's nice for a walk in the woods, relatively quiet on weekdays. You also have the Loess Hills in Eastern Iowa, check out Preperation Canyon, it's about an hour from Omaha. Up north near Blair you have DeSoto Bend, there's lots of native wildlife and it's very well maintained and protected. Most normies around here go to Platte River State Park or Mahoney State Park, both are really great for casual camping or fun with friends in general. Out west you have the Sandhills, the Nebraska National Forest at Halsey is pretty cool. If you have a 4x4 vehicle you can have a lot of fun on the 80 or so miles of trails. Other than that there's not much that's close enough for a weekend trip. Living in Eastern Nebraska sucks, my dude, probably one of the worst /out/ states.
What knife is best to buy for a bushkeker who does hardcore batonny?
I've been looking for a thick knife like a rigging knife I can give my bf for his b-day. Do I need to buy him a good hammer too? Does wood come pre-cut or should I get a saw and if I do, should it be only the saw blade so he can whittle a handle for it like a bow saw? I don't want to get him something whimpy that will break the instant he uses it. Double points if it comes with a beard comb.
What batonny knife do you use, /out/?
hacking knife, ~12 dollars, designed to be hit with a hammer
>rigging knife
Why is this coming up in wood splitting threads frequently?
>Does wood come pre-cut
saw or axe it.
>>947650
>hacking knife
Interesting. Do those come in folding styles?
>>947650
You done took the bait anon.
Sup guys, im going camping in the everglades in a few weeks to look at the stars. Gonna bring some shrooms with me. Tips on what i should bring to make the trip better?
Don't waste the shooms. The meter shower is a trip of its own if you're far enough from earth light.
Save'em for a rainy day.
>>962270
Theres nothing better than a midnight swim in the Everglades.
kill thyself op. Nobody wants your shitty ass thread
Foraging /out/
>>961844
I don't know if we've ever had a foraging thread!
You'd be surprised at all of the native species of edibles that are in your area.
Most of the plants have anticancer and immune system boosting properties.
Let's get back to our roots and share some knowledge. the more you share, the more we can eat.
For my Florida bros, Eattheweeds(.Com) is an amazing site.
I will right out all the edible plants I've researched in Florida after I get off from work. My occupation is a Florida Park Ranger.
>>961846
Write* sorry I'm on my phone
Best field to identifying plants outdoors? Preferably not just edibles but all plants.
Is it Peterson Field Guide or another?
Anybody making charcoal out there?
