What are some good coolers that aren't hundreds of dollars?

A cheap one with a block of dry ice in it works well.
Personally im a fan of orion coolers. About the same price as yeti, but better features and more worth the money.

Thought i had a pic of it on my phone, but I do not, so >pic unrelated.
>>
If you don't want shit to melt so fast then you'll need a a few hundred dollars for a decent ice box.
>>
>>962300
The solid white Marine Igloos do pretty well for the price. Seem like they get crappier every 5 years or so. Most sub $100 coolers skimp on the lid badly.

One cheap trick to keep ice longer is to put a $5 disposable inside of a larger $50 chest. Melt a couple small holes though the lower sides of the styro inner chest for drainage.

What does it mean to you, I mean. What do you think you are missing in your life?

>>

I'm looking for little-known places like abandoned buildings or caves of old bunkers to explore with a camera. I read Access All Areas a few years ago and I'm finally really getting motivated to give it a shot. Most of the old places mentioned in UrbEx forums like the Schlage Lock Factory or the Galaxy Movie Palace have been demolished. The old underground network of WWII bunkers has been closed off too. Yes, a lot of it required trespassing

>>962403
I'm just getting sick of wake up + force myself to eat + work + go home + stare at my computer + force myself to eat + go to bed

Apparently UrbEx is an extremely intoxicating activity and gives people a new appreciation for their cities

Hi /out/

Do any of you guys have/use GPS units? What do you use?

What would be a good, affordable unit that has lots of maps available and a workable interface?
48 posts and 9 images submitted.
>>
>>960055
I have that exact unit and it works fine. Just use it with a 1:100,000 or 1:50,000 topo if you want some serious detail.
>>
>>960055
I have a Garmin GPSMAPS 64st. I haven't had it long, but I'm very happy with it. It's nice having the USGS topo basemap, and the "custom maps" feature allows you to geolocate and drop in your own trail maps or ones you found online, which is very cool. I have a few trail map overlays and I'm super pumped about that feature.

Occasionally you hear about people giving it all up and going to live in a cabin in the woods. How do they do this? I don't mean living off the land. These people often have electricity and shit. How do they support themselves?

>>
>>965022
Movies make it look like they "have electricity and shit"

You need land and a cabin or the means to build one first. It's not a last ditch act of jobless desperation. That's called being homeless.
>>
>>965033
I don't mean as a last act of desperation. Even with some planning, I'm wondering how somebody living in the middle of nowhere could support themselves.

i've notice a lot of through hikers are trust fund kids or only children who live off mom and dad. i would also guess some people are using an inheritance.

not saying its everyone. like that maine hermit who stole materials in the off season. some people also do odd jobs.

I'll start, this is the story about the most badass deer I have ever shot

>Be me
>Hunting over Thanksgiving break
>Every year I go hunting with my dad and my godfather during Thanksgiving break
>My sister comes hunting for the first time
>She uses the rifle I normally use when hunting
>Remington Bolt-Action scoped rifle
>Somewhat salty for not getting to use it, but whatever
>I have to use an iron sight AR-15 instead
>I personally I am not a huge fan of AR-15's but I use it any way
>I go out to the blind alone
>3 doe come up
>2 small ones and 1 good sized one
>I get ready to shoot the good sized and remember I forgot ear protection
>Fuck.jpg
>Shoot the doe in chest, it was standing with its side facing the blind
>it drops
>Fuck yeah
>shooting without ear protection sucked but whatever, i got the deer
>I walk out out and as i get near the deer, it jumps up and runs
>Fucking years of shooting come to save my ass as I immediately shoot twice at the deer and it drops again
>I run up and find the deer twitching on the ground with steam rising from its head
>I shot it in the chest again to put it down
>I got a fucking moving headshot on it
>The top of her head was gone and brains were spilling out
>this deer was still moving with half its brain on the ground
>When butchering the deer later, we had found out the first shot took out its left shoulder, the second one its hind right leg, the third shot hit its head, and the fourth was the chest shot that took it down
>it took 4 fucking shots to take down a doe
>I went to war with this deer
>There are three conclusions I have, either I'm a shit shot, AR-15's suck for hunting, or this was the toughest doe on the face of the planet

Sounds like you really fucked up the meat. Please tell me you weren't using 55gr FMJ. I've taken 3 whitetail with my scoped AR. I've never had to take a second shot. One was a headshot. The other two hearts. 2 dropped on the spot. The other ran 17 paces before realizing he was dead. All I shoot out of that rifle is Federal Gold Medal Match 69gr OTM. Never lost any meat unless you count the hearts.
>>
>>962978
Your retarded fudd relatives probably used the wrong ammo.
>>
>>962978
She prolly fought a little harder because the two "smaller does" were her fawns. They have twins sometimes. Did you happen to notice white fatty looking deposits clinging to the lower abdomen? You should have been able to take out all three with an AR if they were in the open. Would have prevented orphaned fawns. If you're hunting for meat, take the smallest. Much more tender.

You don't need it but it's nice, same as basically everything else on this board.

If you don't like pipe smoking then maybe this isn't the thread for you.

G'day, I'm going mustering in a little over a week. Feral, aggressive cattle on around 750,000 acres. Helicopters and bikes. Also fencing and yard building.

Bit stuck on what I need. Never been to northern queensland, so not sure what type of clothing is going to be the best for high humidity?

Jeans or shorts? Long sleeve cotton or short sleeve? Steel cap boots or normal?

Any other gear recommendations that might not be otherwise apparent? I've got the basics like a swag, hydration bladders, hat, ass cream (chafe cream). Trying to pack light as i'm flying up from about 3000km's away.

Got some skinning knives, boning knives and a pocket knife already. So no queers bitching about knife brands.

How did you land that job? Are you an immigrant?
>>
>>964626
I'm an aussie. Sent someone a message on gumtree saying I wanted a start, that I can ride bikes and weld to a high standard, and have done rural fencing. He replied back an hour or two later saying I was the type of bloke he was looking for, and offered me a three week trial and asking for my number to talk further about it.

If you want a job like that, get on gum tree. You'll find someone willing to give you a go eventually. Helps if you have skills like fencing, welding, motorbike riding, mechanical maintenance.

Pays not too bad. $120 a day (after tax) and 0 living expenses outside of luxury items (beer, smokes, shit like that) for an entry level job is pretty good.
