How do I get my spider plant to get bigger?
Can we talk about house plants on /out/?
>>978021
How long have you had your spider plant? They generally reach full maturity after a year or so. Honestly they are one of the easiest plants ever to take care of and are almost impossible to kill unless you somehow forget to water them for a month or something, but even that might not kill them. so I think all it needs is probably time.
>>978052
It's been around for awhile, I'm guessing a year or two. Would putting it in a bigger pot allow it to get bigger? Is there any pruning tricks or feeding that might help?
get a bigger pot
plant the babies so it fills out more
Anyone know a good way to carry one of these without stuffing it into a backpack?
Maybe a way to strap onto your back or put it on a cross-strap or something like how civil war soldiers used to carry their gear?
>>977986
years ago i modified mine by taking the "thick" cushions out of the top and bottom center and replaced them with 50 mil thick plastic sheeting cut to the same dimensions.
what i lost in comfort i gained in packability by being able to roll it up and stash it away.
Run a cord through the handle and tie it to the outside of the pack
>>978018
The reason i ask is i don't carry a pack. It's more like a small buttpack on a single shouder strap.

Has anyone ever went hunting with one of these things? My property backs onto a wooded area, there's a lake back there where I go fishing and it is also full of ducks, but it is a provincial park so I cant bring my shotgun up there. I'm thinking about buying a slingshot, practicing with it in my backyard, and then going up into the park to pick off a few ducks. Thoughts?
slingshots are great for small game like squirrels and small birds but i wouldnt recommend it for ducks unless youre a very good shot and can hit their head consistently. id suggest a .22 for ducks
>>977421
I have. You need one that is intended for hunting with very large bands. Then your ammo needs to be fairly heavy and uniform from shot to shot to maintain accuracy between shots.
As far as how large of game you can bring down will depend on the ammo and the power of the sling shot. I only ever went after birds, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and groundhogs. The latter two I don't recommend going after with light equipment.
There are also "Archery Slingshots" for larger game.

Could you get away with a pellet gun?
Looking for compression sacks for my sleeping back, I have a ruck cover but sometimes it just doesn't cut it and individual compartmentalization is sometimes nice too. Post your favorite brands, or recommendations.
>>977361
There's already a pants thread.
>>977364
:'D
Carinthia's compression sacks. I got the bigger model for my winter sleeping bag. It will fit pretty much any bag out there, and is better than other compression sacks because it can be compressed in both directions. Cost me like 30€, would recommend.
New fag here. Just bought a bunch of gear to start me out on 1-3 night backpacking trips. I had some dough so I spent based on weight as well as utility.
However, I recieved pic related today for my lonesome. It seems really small for cooking for one person. Should I return it and get something else? If not, what would easy for me to cook in such a small pot?
>TOAKS 750 ml
Well shit, posted from my phone so I'm not sure why it's upside down
I have the same pot. You can cook in it, be careful because it easily boils over. I just boil water and cook in bags. Cleaning pots in the backcountry sucks ass.

Forgot to add, Ramen, pasta sides, macaroni and cheese, shit like that
Alright /out/ the company I guide for is giving me $250 to spend on gear. I'll be getting another 250 in April. I'm looking to get some new stuff so I'd like some recommendations for some stuff to get. I need a new sleeping pad but other than that I don't really need anything but it would be nice to have some new good quality stuff. So what are some things you would suggest ?
$250 at retail, or at industry discount?
>>977051
I would think the Guide would be the one to give recommendations.
>>977065
I am the guide. I've got my regular kit of stuff I just want to hear differing opinions on recommendations. Like I've got an O.R rain jacket that I like but I haven't owned a Patagonia one or an arc'terx one and I'm looking to expand my gear. I can only use the money I'm being given towards gear and as I said I don't "need" anything, I just want to use the money I'm being given before the offer expires.
Hey /out/
For my Minnesota brothers / anyone who has been to the Boundary Waters, what are your favorite trip plans there?
I go with my friends but we usually end up picking a spot and sticking with it for the duration of the trip. I don't have a problem with it, but I was wondering if any of you do something different. Mostly I'm wondering your favorite routes to take, since I don't want to repeat the path we usually follow: enter near Ely in fall lake and canoe for about 7 hours.
Any of you guys spend one night per campsite and then move on? If so, how is it? Also, favorite fishing methods and routes are appreciated.
>also general canoeing trip thread
I'm trying to get some new ideas for the series of trips I'm planning for the BWCA this summer
Okay Luke.
I'll be doing every lake on the boundary again this summer for work between North Fowl and Lac La Croix, albeit small sections every other week. That's all I've ever done but it's enjoyable. Every night we get a different campsite as we canoe along, do some work, and stopping to fish every so often. My job doesn't provide the best gear so if you see some people portaging black contractor trash bags you probably passed my coworkers.
Thread for proving or disproving gardening/farming/homesteading practices?

Is it me or is that *.jpg deteriorating more and more everytime I see it?
I mean, it is possible with images to corrupt and fuck up their compression after a ton of transfers.

>A tractor trailer dropped off a pallet of organic feed onto my tiny dock. This cost me $800 and would only last 3 months.
>$34 for a bag of feed
Fucking moron.
I can't seem to find out how many chickens he owns, but from the photos, it doesn't look like very many at all; especially if he's feeding all of them using kitchen scraps and compost. If you have 25 chickens, that may be pretty difficult to do, even with free range. Any more and you'll need to grow food for them.
This is a typical "I was spending $10 billion, but now I'm making $1 million a week! You can too!" type of thing. Only the problem here is that what he is now doing is what you do starting out. On a farm, you don't toss anything in the trash. You compost everything and the compost is open to livestock to pick through. You don't worry about compost recipes and green-brown ratios. You don't worry about stirring it. You don't need a worm bin or a BSF bin. You don't even try to contain it. You just pile it up in a "zone" and let the chickens have at it.
There's already a Homegrowmen thread which has farming and gardening in it: >>974435

Can someone explain to me why every time I go /out/ I'll encounter a German visiting? Is there a strong outdoors culture in Germany that I'm not aware of? I never really notice German tourists anywhere else, but I'll always hear a bit of Deutsch when I'm hiking or visiting a national park.
>>976725
Well you probably don't notice them elsewhere because there's too much background noise or you're just not paying attention to what people say when there's other thing going on.
And yes, there is a fairly big /out/ culture in Germany. Deuter, Vaude, Meindl, Hanwag, Lowa, etc.
>>976725
They get decent vacations from work, and like to travel.

What's everyone's take on water purification? As far as drinking water goes. I have iodine tablets, are they good enough? Lifestraws? Sawyer's? Big pumps? UV lights? Bleach in a dropper bottle? Do you need something that takes chemicals out like charcoal or does a filter suffice? Also what's best for filling up bottles, I can't imagine a lifestraw would be helpful in that case.
LOL if you cant handle any water without purfying it you don't belong /out/ you fucking millenial

I'd rather not get diarrhea on the trail.
>Summer Creek's are 80% protezoa.

Something that would need a couple days of antibiotics and rest could kill me deep Inna woods.
If you drink fountain drinks, forget purification. The nozzles never get cleaned, and your coke or nestea is fucking loaded with cyanobacteria. Would you like a side of ALS with those fries?
Im going wyoming, idaho, utah, and colorodo. Suggestions of parks and places to eat would be fantastic!

Vedauwoo in WY is pretty cool to check out. Right between Cheyenne and Laramie on I-80.
Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah are amazing this time of year, as the salt flats are flooded and reflect the landscape like a giant mirror. Pic related.
I live in colorado, plan to spend like 3-4 days in yellowstone to see most of the stuff
I would also recommend rocky mountain national park in colorado, and devils tower in wyoming
