So how does /out/ find places to camp?
I'm in Eastern MA, and all of the results I find for camping is a KOA tier site, usually a bunch of 100' square sites off an improved road, and I don't want such close neighbors when trying to get back to nature. Last time I was at a state park, I listened to the people in the next site over watch Game of Thrones until 2am, while I was trying to silently stare at the embers of my campfire. And lots of them are only open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Do I just need better search terms, like wilderness camping or something? Should I forgo state parks and look for national forests/parks? Or does New England just not have a lot of what I'm looking for? I'm gonna try to get up to Acadia next year, but that is a long enough drive that I would want to stay for a week or more. Mostly I just want to go out in the woods for a few days and not see anyone besides the rangers.

Pic is an unrelated snek from the woodpile a few weeks back.

So I've been trying to plan a camping trip in Oregon but I've only been camping with family gear on local (East coast) land. I've been to Oregon once, but that was in the summer. This time I'm going back in the fall, and I intend to camp for 3 days and two nights.

I'm new to buying camping gear, and obviously new to the area so if there's any advice you guys have that's specific to the situation, I'd love to hear it. Also, visiting the Tumalo/Bend area.

I went camping up there a bit last September. I'm originally from Georgia. I don't know what advice you are really looking for. Make sure you bring rain gear. It is really beautiful out there. If you actually live in the Northwest now, do yourself a favor and go to Olympic national park at some point. It's so insanely gorgeous.
Mt Hood national forest,Colombia River Gorge, and Crater Lake are all nice very nice, but get crowded

I am also from Georgia. I really enjoy the northern part of the state like Cohutta and Rich Mountain, but every other part of the state is just meh. Thought about moving out west and getting my own land. Is it nice out there?

Hey /out/, planning to go on my first real camping trip with a friend before they go off to uni and I start my gap year. Because it's our first time, we don't want to stray too far from the nest, so where in the UK do you think would be best for wild camping? The national parks look quite nice, but not too sure on the specific rules. Also, what would be the recommend essentials for a three day (two night) trip?

Would be happy to give any more information if it helps.

If you can head to Scotland and walk some of the West Highland Way. Wild camping is legal up there, unlike in England where it is totally illegal (realistically no one will bother you in out-of-the-way spots). If you can't get to Scotland then look to the Lake District or North wales. If you are looking for a 3 day walk then you can easily make up your own circuit. Just don't look to do more than 15 miles a day if you are new to hiking. Other than that, really think about what you put in your bag, take only what you will need. Be prepared for rain.
>>
>>1089493
Also check the catalog next time you dunce. There is a UK thread up at the moment. So there wasn't really any need to make your own.

you dont want to store oils in your standard recyclable bottle because the seal isnt affirmative enough, oil would leak out. most recyclable bottles dont have a great seal, but one ive found with a very affirmative seal is the Pom drink brand

you also dont want to store oils in glassware simply because it is glassware and fragile

glass has no special use outside of being (chemically) stable, and aesthetic

I'm most proud of doing this day hike. Good lord, it hurt. Got rained on the entire day. This is in Westfir/Oakridge Oregon and I hiked this in March.

Took me the entire day from morning to night. Orange loop is the hike.

The whole area has a metric dickload of good trails.

I usually try not to cram too much distance or altitude into day hikes. Gives me more time to savor the view or check out side paths.

Just did Kratka Ridge and Bighorn Mine in the San Gabriels. So short that you could easily do both in the same day, but the point was to explore the old abandoned structures and the mine, not to cover distance.

I switch it up, sometimes I do distance, sometimes I do scenery.

Strange question coming up. Not that I'd actually do it, just curious. What would happen if instead of feeding plants water, you give it nothing but sperm, cumming and drenching over the roots whilst being exposed to optimal sunlight conditions. Has anyone ever tried this? Would it be possible for the plant to have a normal life cycle or would it die in its early stages? If so what if you gave it a mix of both cum and water?

I know you're just being an idiot, but seen likely contains too much salts and things like that. It's viscosity would also be too high to soak into the soil. Even if it could, the plants couldn't take up the water due to the salts.

Hello, I come from /bant/ so I don´t know very much of /out/ but they told me to come here to ask for advice.
I´m going to pass the night with a couple of friends in a pic related terrain, they are bringing all their camping tents and mine just got rekt a couple of days ago so I don´t have where to sleep (probably with a friend but let´s say I have to sleep outside) what techniques could I apply to bear the night, the kinda cold temperature and the rain because is going to rain probably.
All I have until now is a thick quilt and a thin one, one black plastic bag for trash, a swiss knife and a backpack.
What would yo dou with tose to improve your comfort and don´t pass it so bad?

bring some acid for everybody, then just pass out in whatever tent you fucking want.
a quality micro dot that will launch 8 people into orbit can be had for as little as €10
>>
I came to say drugs and alcohol also. Sleeping under a quilt with no pad in the rain is just going to suck balls no matter what.

So either skip the trip because you are just going to suffer and bring everyone down or be that crazy drunk bastard that makes the story epic. I hope this is just a night and maybe 2 at most.

if it's just 1 or 2 days take amphetamines and defend the campsite while maintaining the fire

I have to buy equipment for longer (2 weeks +) trips by foot.
No winter, no skiing, no climbing, nothing to extreme, but I need mid quality, mid price range.

I am searching a tent (no tarp):

- weight: < 2kg
- size: 1-2 people, packed as small as possible
- easy and fast assembly (but no throwing tents or similar)
- water and wind proof (obviously), relatively sturdy
- seasons: mid European, 3 seasons
- <300 EUR

- possibility:

https://www.amazon.de/Jack-Wolfskin-GOSSAMER-dark-moss/dp/B003DOSA5M/ref=sr_1_2?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1503590780&sr=1-2&keywords=Jack+Wolfskin+GOSSAMER

I am searching a backpack:

- size: large (ca. 55 cm height)
- volume: 45-65 L
- weight: <2,5kg
- frontloader
- detachable top pocket (as daypack) (optional)
- water system possible
- sturdy hip belt
- good back system
- needs to carry: tent (above), sleeping bag, sleeping pad, cooking equipment, clothing, ...

- possible:

https://www.amazon.de/Osprey-Aether-60-Trekkingrucksack-green/dp/B01N5IBRY2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503666657&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=Aether+AG+70

I am also searching for a (thermo) sleeping bag and some sort of sleeping pad.
Totally open to suggestions here.

Opinions, other options, and different approaches / sources welcome!
Especially since people from other countries might know more shit I don't even remotely know.

If you need mor information, please ask.

Final setup should be:

(1) Backpack
(2) Tent
(3) Sleeping pad
(4) Sleeping bag
(5) Cooking equipment (pot, bunsenbrenner, knife, fork, spoon)
(6) Water system
(7) Misc.

>I am also searching for a (thermo) sleeping bag and some sort of sleeping pad.
pad, if you like sleeping "hard", try a evazote pad. they are cheap, robust and light, 9mm should be plenty for your temperature range.

Tent, sales season is coming up in a few weeks, you could try to get a MSR Hubba Hubba sub 300 or score some other nice tenty.

backpack same, show up on sales, test half a dozen packs, see what fits you best and has the features most to your likings and buy it for half price.

sleeping bag, depends if you plan high alps or Scandinavia in late summer/begin of fall, which means frost nights.
For summer camping with I use generic no name bags from the local sports outlet, because they work, are cheap, and get ruined/lost/burnt/borrowed and never returned anyways.

I got an Exped comfort 600 as my expensive splurge bag for when I go on tour myself, -8°C was still ok, the bag is cozy as fuck and I use it for five years now with no issues.

If you're EU then you can order Alpkit stuff from UK for delivery.
1.3kg 2 man tent:
https://www.alpkit.com/products/ordos-2

The Osprey pack you linked is great so go for it. Make sure you get the right back length as Osprey do 2.

Sleeping bag depends on where you're wanting to go and what the temp is going to be. Down is better than synthetic unless you expect the bag to get wet. I'd advise a liner as well.

Sleeping pad depends on temp as well. self-inflating are great but heavier/thicker than inflatables.

Alpkit sell bags and mats, they're all reasonably priced and great quality. Otherwise just take a look at some local outdoors shops and see what looks best/ matches your requirements and budget.

Seconded - I made this once due to abundance of mint. Stored air-tight. A minty blast in the middle of winter, well worth it.

Inspired by the tinyhouse community I want a mobile home that's easy to relocate and live closer to nature and cheaper than an appartment so I can also save money for travelling and seeing things of the world.

I was thinking of buying a Tentipi tent with heater and living in it. Maybe get a small trailer for my car where I can put in a generator and cooler unit and some solar panels on the roof of it or something like that.

The tent company also makes a stove for heating the tent and that will be necessary because winters here can be quite cold. I live in Scandinavia 10km under the polar circle.

Have any of you had ideas or dreams like this? Considerations for me to think about?

Pic related; It's the tent I'm talking about.

I'd skip all of that and start scouring CL and other online places for a great deal on an Airstream.. if you buy it right, you can use it for however long you want it and then sell it fro profit... we used a 34Ft AS for 2 years at our mts property then sold it for $10k profit. it will also be WAY more comfy than a tent
>>
>>1088425
The Idea of a trailer RV or Caravan doesnt appeal to me. That's why I thought of this. The Indigenous people of this region; The Sami have lived year round in tents like this and are/where not any less of it.

Camping and roughing it out appeals to a primal side of me and makes my head clear. Why shouldn't I want to experience that everyday?
>>
Do it then. Nothing is stopping you except laziness and being a giant faggot

>want to camp
>know nothing of mountaineering

>locals are rednecks who watch you suspiciously when you tell them you're hiking because their subhuman intelligence cannot ponder why someone would want to go out and do anything besides watching sports in a local bar while drinking literal piss lager beer

Yeah lots of people use their cars and taxis. No interest for walking/swimming.

I went camping/hiking last week to Uvac with my gf for 4days. Everyone that came to the camp stayed at the camp the whole time or went visit monasteries by car. We were the only one to pack our bag and go outside on foot. We crossed the lake swimming with our stuff on a floating mattress. Met a true sheepherder and had a long discussion with him etc...
People prefer to pay to feel like at home.

No way. It would require herds upon herds stomping every inch for a decade to clear everything. It's a wild presumption (pun intended).

But there is more to it. Serbs who return remove minefield signs, as well as Gypsies rummaging for scrap metal. You cannot go out in the fields and just walk around because you don't know where the shit is, and even if it's considered cleared, you're not 100% certain because of these Balkan cronies doing half-assed work. Not to mention that 20+ years have passed since the end of the war, and there still areas off limits.
