I'm torn, /out/. Do I clean my apartment like a responsible human, or do I go skiing? If I go I have to leave in 10 or be stuck in traffic forever.
>>982941
Also WTF why do al the photos I upload to this board render upside down?
>>982942
You held your phone upside down when you took them. The images are tagged with a marker telling the phone which side is down. Since nothing online really reads those markers, you'll get shit like this when you post.
>>982942
With the iPhone, for landscape photos you have to rotate the phone 90deg counter clockwise and it will upload correctly.
But yeah, go skiing. Fuck those other priorities.
What is your outdoor jacket? Recommendations?
Pic related. Really want but too poor:

Patagonia Nanopuff jacket. I've worn it under my ski gear and used it on colder spring to fall days comfortably. Primaloft is awesome.
>rain jacket
BD Liquid Point shell, traffic cone orange. I had a marmot precip but it wetted out too fast even with techwash.
>Fjällräven Keb
>Arc'teryx hardshell - I forget which
>Barbour Gamefair
Covers me for most /out/ situations.
I use a Frogg Toggs for three-season wet/windy, with a whole complement of underlayers to choose from.
I use a Walls (generic Carhartt) work jacket for the really cold. Is nice.
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/can-world-really-set-aside-half-planet-wildlife-180952379/
Thought's on setting aside half the planet for wildlife and nature?
I believe making half the planet into nature reserves would be a great idea
Go for it
The power is yours
>>982765
Doable.
But I'd prefer to catalogue all species, and keep the bare minimum in special zones.
>>982765
I'd vote for this.
trail horse camping
is this a thing? I haven't heard of it at all. basically what I'm thinking is taking a trail horse with some basic camping supplies and riding the horse out in the wilderness and at night tying it up to a tree or something. is this something people can do? I really like the idea but I'm not sure if it's plausible
>>982159
Sure is something you can do. Do it somewhere that you're allowed to though. In Australia there are a number of routes in the Alpine National Park that are fine, and many that are off limits.
Horses can have a serious degrading effect on the environment so keep to the trails and where you're allowed to be.
>>982159
I went when I was a kid, although it wasn't like that. We'd come back to the same campsite every night after trail riding all day.
You couldn't travel solo with a horse for more than a day or so without an extra animal just to carry feed. They eat a lot more than you do.
You're not going to find anyplace "off the map" that you can take a horse, either. So that usually means you're stuck with normie campgrounds and trails that you're not allowed to sleep on.
people in california do it all the time. sierra nevada has pack trails all over it.
What are some good podcasts about /out/ stuff?
>>981564
>>981564
probably a bunch of liberal envoromentalist garbage
>>981564
Paul Kirtley
British wilderness guide with some very interesting guests.
Adventurepunk is the aesthetic of /out/. Discuss.
>>981499
If you're aesthetic innawoods, and noone is around to see it, are you still aesthetic?

Idk r u in jeans and a sleeveless undershirt?
This may be the worst op I have ever seen here
Bicycle touring
I need to kill a few years before I can get social security and was thinking of biking around the country or hiking back and forth on the Appalachian trail or Pacific Crest trail. Is that a good plan? Tips and pointers?
>>981234
Be pragmatic about every choice you make?
Today I saw a bicycle-hobo who had a cart attached to his bike, carrying all his stuff. He seemed like he was getting by, so you probably will too.
That's actually a pretty good use for old walkers and crutches. Looks cool too.
I'm going to travel around Europe with bike, the trip will take about 1-2 months, which 2-3 person tent would you suggest to buy?
Damn I wanna do this now too, but Uni gives me no time
>>980772
>but Uni gives me no time
Yeah having a break from May to September sure is tough
>>980766
Make sure you test your tent in your backyard/locally every damn day you have off work or whatever. There's nothing quite like using a last minute bought tent for a long trip only to have it fail on the 3rd day.
lets talk a bit about multitools . i wanna acquire one , and i am not sure which one i should buy . in general . do /out/ use multitool ? or is it just a piece of trash ?
>btw does multitool in pic is good and the pricetag is fair ?
>>980615
That's an insane price for a wingman.
Here in Canada they're $45CAD.
If you are spending that much, just get a Wave, much more versatile.
>simultaneous multitool shill threads on /diy/ and /out/
Seems pretty shady if you ask me.
>>980667
Nah, multitool shills are common on both boards. Plus the /diy/ thread's OP has different sentence structure, not to mention it was made 6 days before the /out/ thread.
I doubt they're related, but I appreciate your shitpost detector.
Is anyone on /out/ doing something relevant /out/side other than the lads thru hiking?
Anyone crossing Mongolia's steppes on a horse, exploring new tribes on New Guinea, selling vodka on the trans Siberian railway, bare fucking sudanese women behind a tent? Are we all only a bunch of casuals?
>>979771
>bare fucking sudanese women behind a tent?
Lad. That's racist AF. Back to r9k with your tiny dick.
>>979782
The chan is really being raided by bait/globalist/leftard bots.
In case of you being a real person and not just fishing for (you)s then you seriously need to fuck off to whatever safe space you came from.
>>979786
You seriously need to take a step back or two lad. What you just proposed was actually racist AF. It's no secretly held knowledge that what you are doing is basically perpetuating the commonly held belieif amongst Sudanese women that whoring themselves out to foreign U.K. betas will net them a better life. It's really exploitative if you think about it. I'm sure you only think with your pecker though.

How me a man grow big spud?
>>979340
U wot m8?
>>979335
Yeah, keyhole garden beds are really neat. I'd like to make one out of stone. I have the stone too. Just need more soil that good.
>you mean beans right?
Correct. If the soil is good those other plants will all get pretty massive.
>>979337
If it was only the cold, you won't need to repot it unless it is rootbound. If it has been in the pots for a year or more, I'd repot them. If entire branches are dead, remove them.
>>979338
You'd be surprised at how easily water will go through the soil. It will need a lot of water too.
>>979340
Sandy soil, moderate nutrients, plant very deep early in the season in full sun, hill up the soil very high over them, cover until threat of frost is over, and monitor moisture levels.
Time to post pictures, stories and questions about skiing.
How has your season been so far?
The conditions here in Norway have been abysmal so far, but I've still managed to get /out/ almost every week.
Still have some hopes for late season back country, there's been some snowfall the last days.
Skied up to this cabin, an easy three hour trip to get to this beautiful secluded cabin wthout electricity and running water, where we got drunk by candlelight before skiing back down the next day.
This was on a day hike from another mountain cabin, between Bergen and Oslo.
Pretty sure I got scabies on a hiking/climbing trip last week. Any tips? Google isn't much help and my upper arm has about 5 marks like this and they itch. Made it out better than my hiking partner he has the shit all over his face.
go to a doctor you need the rx soap if its scabies
do it now you dont want that shit to get worse i had scabies for 8 months it was hell
>>983374
Will do thanks. After a little more research it looks like it would be kinda quick for a scabies bite (usually they don't show bumps for 4-6 weeks after contact) I'm thinking these might be chiggers
>>983371
I thought scabies generally hit the wrists and ankles. Sure it's not chiggers?
I got this reel and i cant figure out how to adjust the line tension, the silver thing by the handle is just a cap, can some1 help plz?
>>983305
Use the star thingy (drag adjustment) behind the handle.
the cast is messed up, i shouldnt have to adjust drag for every cast
>>983305
Or if you're talking about spool tension, put that little cap back on, screw it all the way. Loosening in very slight increments will loosen the spool.
>Does /out do this?
I've been interested in storm chasing for a few years. I'd love to drive to North Dakota and all up and down the plains following storms. For a first try I think I'll aim for the area around the boarder of New Mexico and Texas (based in LA).
Trying to do this on the cheap.
>camp in pickup truck
>shower at truck stops
>plan ready to eat meals or cook on my Coleman stove.
>>983057
Go to Kansas m8. Pic related was taken last August when I was passing through.
It only takes about 6 hours to cross the entire state with plenty of places to stop and view the storms.
>>983103
>Go to Kansas
I thought about that. Drive to Denver and take I70 across Kansas. The past few years I've watched some big storms form on the weather maps right on the Colorado/Kansas boarder.
>>983057
Storm chasing... Haven't heard that phrase in years... BECAUSE EVERYONE THAT DOES IT HAS DIED. Seriously bro, "storm chasing?" How about changing the name to "come and get killed by some FRICKEN LIGHTNING?"
Are those who participate in "storm chasing" (AKA "come and get killed by some FRICKEN LIGHTNING?") known as Darwin Award winners? Or is that only after they are gifted with the joy of having their brains smashed open by a hailstone?
