I live in Hawaii so I do a lot of beach camping. Hawaii has a pretty bad mongoose problem. I'm sick of these little fuckers sneaking into my campsite and fucking with my shit. I've decided to get a BB/pellet gun to deal with the issue.
Do you think a standard Red Rider would do the trick? Any other suggestions? Nothing too big or fancy but whatever I buy, I need it to also to be able to take down birds for food purposes.

Looking to get a kayak. Not looking to do any whitewater stuff. Just going on local rivers mostly.
I got a trophy beach 126 last year and so far it is serving me very well. It's a bit heavy and slow but it's very stable and has good storage potential. I like to nap out on the lake during the summer. Haven't fallen in yet. Beautiful day this morning.

I recommend going as big as you can afford. Anything less than 10 is awfully slow and hard to keep straight. The longer, the easier to travel, and more stable the boat. Even in tight harbors, a 14' yak is still pretty small compared to motor board around. I would recommend a Ocean Kayak brand or similar. Just avoid the short Wal mart ones

greetings from Estonia!
I'm looking for new trail running shoes after pic related are falling appart after 175 km.
Thinking of Speedcrosses.
Any suggestions?

Topo trail shoes are durable+cheap plus "muh biomechanics"
I bet you will like the speedcrosses, I have a pair of pick related, Solomon fellraisers, and they are great. I've put hundreds of miles on them and am running a 17 mile trail race in them tomorrow.
The topos look pretty nice too, I'll have to look into them next time I need a pair.
>>986599
Speedcrosses are a wonderfully light shoe that fits like a glove if you don't have particularly wide fit. problem with them is you need to stay away from tarmac. light density rubber in the outsole.
look at the inov8 range. same weightlessness and a very decent range that caters toa variety of trails and running styles. would try them on before pulling the trigger. the fit might not be for you.
I'm trying to pack lighter for my overnight bushcraft/fishing trips so I've bought myself a Rush 12. I don't want to go ultralight, just carry less unnecessary shite. How do I figure out what I do and don't need?
What are you doing, where are you doing, what are your requirements?
>>986385
Fishing and bushcraft overnighters. I've got the fishing bit down but I'm pretty sure I carry way to much stuff for a bushcraft overnighter. I'm in the north of Scotland. As long as I'm warm, dry and not trekking in a tenth of my body weight in equipment I'm happy

Practice.
Make a first draft of what you think you need and go out with it. You'll find what you would like to have and what you never use in pretty short order?l.
Anyone here find flying kites as therapeutic as I do? I've started a facebook page devoted to them if anyone is interested in following.
https://www facebook com/All-Things-Kites-1635512596464011/
I'll be dumping a few photos here if anyone is interested. NO i'm not spam... just interested and not sure where else to go. lol
>>986341
I like kites. Fuk Facebook though. My dad liked them more than me. He would always win at least one catagory in the local competition. One year, he did one with a 30 foot wingspan out of ripstop nylon and aluminum. I always got a kite for my birthday.
>>986348
nice! Send some pics - I will gladly upload them to the site. It would be nice to have some personal flair to it other than my own.
>>986355
Wish I had some pics. I'm 40 and my dad died a few years back. I can't fly a kite without thinking of him. I take my son flying every now and then.
Has anybody here been to GNP before? I'm planning a trip there this summer and have some questions.
First, I'm planning a multi-day backpacking trip. There aren't many good loops, so how easy would it be to hitch-hike back to my starting point? Are there enough drivers around that I could plan to end a trip 20 miles down the road from where I started and rely on hitch-hiking to get back? It looks like one road has a shuttle, but other than that idk.
Also, what stuff is there to see except backpacking? When I went to Yellowstone I ended up doing only one night of backpacking because there was so much stuff to see driving around and doing day hikes. Is GNP going to be a place that I'll want to do a lot of driving around for side-trips?
Finally, is there any other cool stuff I should check out in Montana or around that area? Never been before, wondering if I should spend a whole week in Glacier or do a day or two elsewhere in Montana (I'll be driving to/from Colorado)
Go do the Dawson/Pitamakan loop you nunce.

>Are there enough drivers around
Literally millions
>Anything else to do
Pick out a trail book and look at some. There are assloads of trails in Montana. I'm from Montana, you may as well check out Yellowstone/Grand Tetons in Wyoming if youre coming up from CO.
>>984997
One more thing.
GNP is fucking packed in the summer like Yellowstone. Go hike to Grinnel Glacier, it probably won't be there in a few years anymore what with the global warming.
Pintler loop is a neat drive. Avoid Bozeman there's nothing but transplants, hipsters, and people who are Montanans by sake of geography alone.
Butte is a cool town if you want local booze. Ennis is awesome as well, check out the distillery and fly-fishing.
what should I plant in my garden this year

Looking for a good one person tent. I was hoping you guys could give me some recommendations
>>983443
You from Australia, mate?
>>983443
I am also looking for a one man tent and would appreciate recommendations. Looking to be quite frugal so sub €200.
I've seen two that look alright, the Coleman Aravis 1 and the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer 1. Do any of you guys have any experience with either of these?

>>985240
There is a larger (longer) version of the Gossamer, which makes more sense, as you get a vestibule.
These guys make almost undestructibe tents: http://tents.marabut.com/ but you have to pay for it.
When camping in god knows where, how do you prevent from being raped, murdered, eaten (not necassarily in that order).
Camping just seems like you're asking for it.

Walk softly, and carry a big stick.

Is BackPages up and running again? Or a suitable alternative? I mean Craigslist is always there but never sure what exactly you will get for your $400.
Is that a European thing?
>>987645
No, it's a /tv/ meme.
Fabric from the heel of my shoes typically gives way to a plastic that protrudes into my heel, hurting me.
How do I repair this?
Why does it happen to many of my shoes?
How do I prevent it?
Is there a name for this?
>>987112
I used to have that problem all the time when I bought cheap shoes. I picked up a pair of Brooks Cascadia last year that are just now starting to wear out, definitely saved me money in the long run, and they're still pretty comfortable.
>>987112
I have the same problem i dont have a solution but i think it happens because you step on that part of the shoe causing the plastic to bend
>>987125
This
Loosen the laces enough when taking them off or putting them on so you don't stress that part of the shoe, or use a shoehorn
>browse blue board /out/ on April Fool's evening

How did most of you react?
I chuckled and closed my browser window.

Hello /out/! I was looking into buying land up in Oregon to start a homestead/farm/semi-self-sustainment plot (maybe 3-5 acres) and I came across picrelated. I'd like to know if anybody here knows of or has built a cob house. They look like the ultimate creative building material, but is it meme tier or actually a viable option?
Your county code may not let you build one. Enjoy living with mice
>>986454
Check legality, also making a house out of dirt in western Oregon is a terrible idea with all the rain, but it might work in the desert.
>>986454
Land is expensive here, just fyi
