Maybe it's because I was born in the 60s but I never did understand this meme. Do people really try to chop wood with knives? I guess if you can believe Bruce Jenner is a woman then nothing is too dumb

Hello,
I will be camping for 2 weeks. I am wondering what type of tent I should find that is the cheapest without compromising strength. It must also be able to withstand rain and wind. Also looking for suggestions for sleeping(will get down to 40F)and any other items to make primitive camping more pleasant. Thinking of buying this solar panel charger. http://www.goalzero.com/p/11/nomad-7-solar-panel

You're gonna need to carry at least 4 teletubbies with you at all times if you want to have even a small chance of surviving. Not only are they cheap, each one serves a different purpose.

Tinky Winky is a potent disinfectant. Useful for snake bites or poisonous flora.

Dipsy can purify any fresh water while also infusing it with electrolytes.

Laa-Laa works as a highly insulative ground pad or personal flotation device.

Po makes excellent tinder in wet conditions and can also be used to bludgeon small animals to death for food.

I use this rhyme to help me remember: "You're not Les Stroud's buddy unless you're totin' some tubbies."

I need to buy some new boardshorts, /out/ pls rate

All boardshorts are the same. Or atleast they were back 15 years ago when i surfed. You want one pocket. Thick enough to not ruin in a year. 3 loop cinchwith good rivets. Length is up to you actually now that i am an old man i prefer the gay ass 8 inch.

But your shorts aint gonna make you surf better, grom.

Can anyone tell me what im looking at?
Eastern Michigan.
I assume wild onion or wild garlic

also, whats the likelihood of being able to transplant into a pot?

>>
>>989086
Probably a young Amianthium muscaetoxicum. If you want to pot it, you'll need to take about 2.5 gallons worth of soil in one big undisturbed clump. They like wooded areas so no direct sunlight. Don't eat it. You can use the crushed bulbs mixed with sugar to kill flies.
>>
I don't think its Amianthium muscaetoxicum, we've gotten these for a few years now and they don't get flowers like that plant. Cool info tho, ill definitely keep an eye out for that now.

It does have white bulbs that are layered like an onion too. Cant really smell anything from it though, I figure it might be too young for that.

Hey /out/. Friendly /k/ommando here. Question for any park rangers or people employed by the parks service.

How much does your job suck? Are there any peculiarities you would not see in another career? Camp life, barracks, etc?

It seems like a good fit for me, but the range of experience is daunting. Anything from tearing ticket stubs to approaching hunters to check for licenses or camping solo several days and potentially being eaten by mountain lions. I'm an older Army vet (35), am comfortable with rifle and shotgun, and patrolling the wilderness is my dream job.

Thanks for your answers anons.

Did it for a few years. Job is mostly harassing campers, picking up trash, cleaning up bathrooms etc. On the plus side you get to drive around brand new $50k SUVs and only have to work a few hours a day. Bonus is when you confiscate weed or booze or whatever and keep it for personal use.

Pretty sure a fed job requires you pee for your uncle sam?

Sounds like a comfy job. Not at all like the romantic image I had in my head. Not surprising, it's a modern gig with a modern budget. Where were you located (generally)?
>>
>>988963
You only have to pee to get the job, but even then you can fake it. Federal jobs are full of stoners because the jobs have very low standards of performance and it's next to impossible to get fired,

Worked in Utah and Colorado

Is there any way to find out what sort of plants in my area are poisonous? Ideally I'd like a rather full list and just how debilitating they can be.

any Montanafags in here?

I am looking to visit Glacier NP and was wondering if anyone here had some experience around the area. I am checking the road and snow plow NPS webpages and it seems plowing has started. Do you guys think its likely Going To The Sun Road will be open around late June to really early July? Those are the only dates I can book for travel.

I dont want to go to Glacier NP and miss the GTTS Road drive.

You should be fine as the road is paved. I would pick July instead of June because there can still be bits of snow here and there. Overall enjoy

sup /out/, i have no friends, and want to try hiking and camping.

i've been hiking only two times, once was at "breakneck ridge" in new york when i went on vacation there. near the end i felt i might have been lost since i was the only one for a while on the trail

i've never been camping before
how do i not get lost?
how do i make sure i know how to get food, set up camp, and avoid dangerous animals?

how do i not be afraid of falling off a cliff? pic related, looks dangerous, especially without anything to hold on to

Where are you from anon? The easiest way is to find a decent trail system in a recreational reserve and start hiking there until you feel comfortable moving further away from people and get a feel for being outside.

>how do i make sure i know how to get food?
Bring what you need or learn to hunt/fish/forage
>set up camp?
Bitch, you trollin'
>and avoid dangerous animals?
camping is the best way to avoid dangerous animals, the ones in the woods are pretty tame compared to the ones in the city.
