So, I am planning on going on getting a suzuki DR650 this summer and driving it from Edmonton to the arctic circle, up to Inuvik, NT via the Dempster highway.

Post ITT if you have ever done anything similar (ie long distance motorcycle trips) or you have any advice for those wishing to do so.

I was listening to a radio station that's out of Canada. It's called signals, they talked about a story where this guy called broken tooth traveled the north Canadian towns with nothing but a tent and his motorcycle. Allegedly he got attacked by a bear and sewed up wounds with a fishook.

Should I find another copy of this book, I will cut it apart and scan it for all of /out/ to enjoy. Until then, it's ISBN 0-89577-086-5. I picked up my copy at a yard sale for $1 and I can say it's well worth whatever you pay for it.

This might become relevant soon

Nuclear war has begun.
What do you pack?
Which direction do you drive?
What weapons do you bring?

How do you plan on surviving? You've gotta stay away from population centers. And you'll have to be very careful who you trust, especially once the food starts running out.

You've been practicing for this moment all this time, now you get to put these survival skills to use

I know a bunch of you are/were in the BSA, any Sc/out/s from other countries?

I've been a Scout in Canada for as long as I can remember. Did much good for me. Travelled the world, learned to be a citizen and a leader.

Best times of my life.

What was your Sc/out/ experience like?

Also, anyone going to World Moot in Iceland this summer?

Hiking for a few days in the patagonian forest during winter
>>
They made a couple of tents that were pretty decent for winter hiking. They are solid but on the heavy side for winter hiking in a forest in Patagonia. Can't remember the models names and their website is down at the moment. As for their packs and sleeping bags, they are heavy and expensive for what they are. Are you planning on renting on Patagonia or buying on arrival? Be a little bit more specific about the area are you planning to visit and I'll help you

Doesn't have to do with /out/ exactly but it has a great philosophy I think /out/ists could appreciate. Siddartha, by Herman Hesse

I thought it was a box of bullets on a stove

Sup /out/,

I used to live a pretty active lifestyle, desert hikes, summited a few 14-ers, have decent camping skills.

Anyways, a few years back I joined the Navy, and I'm on my last year of my enlistment, when I'm done I plan on doing something big for my travel back home from Virginia to California.

Anyone ever hoof it East to West? How did you go about doing it? I've looked a little bit into the American Discovery trail but it doesn't quite go through many of the places I'd like to see.

What type of gear would I need for a cross-country excursion? I've been looking into Hyper-lite stuff made out of Cuben Fiber and a few other things.

Any help or advice from more experienced folks would be much appreciated.
