What would you cook it in? Also general forage/recipe thread
YOU
MURDERER
THAT WAS A FUCKING GOD DAMNED LIVING ORGANISM
THAT POOR CREATURE SPENT ITS WHOLE LIFE COLD AND AFRAID BUT IT FOUGHT ON EVERY DAY TO STAY ALIVE.
YOU RUINED EVERYTHING THAT BEAUTIFUL LIFEFORM EVER TRIED TO ME.
YOU RAPED IT FROM THE GROUND AND NOW ITS NOTHING. ITS ERASED. FORGOTTEN.
YOU. SICK. FUCKING. BEAST.
HOW DARE YOU TRESPASS ON THE WILL OF OTHER THINGS. WE ARE ALL EQUAL.
YOU CAN ONLY REVERSE THE DAMAGE YOUVE DONE BY SUICIDE.
>>999266
Don't worry, it was humane
>>999265
I wouldn't say so, however I'm no expert.
General nettle plug:
It's nearing nettle season in Uk. Go pick fucktons. You get a delicious savoury treat when you Blanche it. You also get to meet loads of caterpillar friends. Get stung?: dockleaf is your bro: rub it all over the sting site.
Is it a tick? I went to a motel too so I'm not sure if it's a bed bug or tick
>>998758
definite tick. kill that motherfucker.
>>998761
Thanks for the identification. Just sprayed the bitch will some Windex
I just moved from the PNW where I've spent my whole life to the bum fuck center of the Sonoran Desert. I'm surrounded by wilderness area but I miss the trees and hills. It's depressing me (especially with a chapped asshole, fuck it's dry here). How do I fall in love with the desert like I did with the forests /out/?
Pic unrelated

Poach someones cattles, sell them off and use the proceeds to hire ruffians to form a gang an terrorize nearby towns for protection money. Watchout for Arizona rangers carrying big irons
Alternatively, tame Sandworms
I'm moving out to Zion from the Appalachians this coming year.
I hope I like it...
>>997333
Zion is fucking amazing. I'm at least happy that it's a shorter drive there than it was. I would prefer that over further south. Those hills and canyons are amazing for hiking.
Does garlic work against ticks or is it just snake oil? Is there anything that DOES work to get ward off these fucking parasites?
>>996281
I've heard Tea Tree oil and DEET works well. I just got bit and Im on antibiotics for Lyme disease. I'm going to have to try the tea tree and DEET soon and let you know
I think DEET works okay but I wouldn't trust garlic or tea tree oil much.
One time I had ticks crawling up my pant leg and I sprayed a line of OFF (DEET). They wouldn't cross it.
ticks don't really bother you. i had one try and crawl in my ear. he did in the wax barrier and i got him later(months)
Show me your fish.
>>992622
Is that a green sunfish? We have pumpkinseed sunfish here, they are very similar but a bit more colourful and smaller (pic). No one eats them, you generally just throw them back or use them as bait.
Fishing season opens tomorrow here, I plan to target brook trout and smallies, I will post pics itt tomorrow evening.
>>992622
Looks like a bream to me!
>>992622
i know this is a longshot but does anyone in the 905 area wanna go camping?
Totally.
But not with you.
This thread upsets me. I'd camp with you, OP.
>>992126
I'd camp with both of you. Ill even bring s'mores.
Are the risks of drinking untreated stream/river water as bad as we're told when /out/? If so how did ancient people get their water. It's a real pain to carry or bring water to a boil every time I want some when on longer hikes. Filters like pic related are awesome but of course they've only been around for a short time.
>>997132
If it's clear and flowing quickly and you can get water from the middle of the channel 9.99/10 times you're going to be goddamned fine
if it has fish in it, good chance its at least moderately clean
if it's brown it's probably just clay, so you'll just want to filthy that with a towel
what you mainly want to look for is stagnation, dark or oily spots of water, a total lack of life, awful smell, etc
would you eat out of a trash can? just use common sense
>>997141
filter that with a towel* not filthy lol
also those lifestraws are totally awful and worthless you'll strain your neck muscles looking like a faggot trying to get 3 ounces of water
Filters have been around for decades and have been used by tens of thousands of hikers all over the backcountry. I've drunk fucking green insect water through a Sawyer and was fine. Please don't act like water in the backcountry is some unsolved issue. Filters work and are what people normally use. The lifestraw isn't a very good one though.
Reasons I should get a Hammock over this?
Once you include the straps/underblanket thing the weight is around the same (just under 1kg)
If you're going to be a ground dweller, why wouldn't you buy a 2 man tent with a small porch for under (or just over) 1Kg? More expensive, but better.
>>1000554
Could you link me? At least in the UK the closest thing I could find to that was a 1.8kg 2man but it was £100 while this is half the weight and only £45
Max I'm willing to spend really is £70 for a one man
I always have a 3 x 3m tarp with me, I use it as a sitting shelter, to keep my bag dry and to cook under using a fire hole
Yeah, sorry, not on that budget. I was talking about A LOT more expensive. For example the Terra Nova Solar Photon 2 is about 830g but retails @ £450. I got mine new for £220 so got a cracking deal. There are other superlight tents out there but they're all expensive.
If you have a tarp, I would just use that and ditch the bivvy to save even more weight. You could set it up in a tent configuration with two walking poles:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMAtpWQdVbY
I always thought a bivvy would be claustrophobic as fuck.
im a pussy and really scared of meeting up with a bear while hiking in the Rockies in canada.
i met two black bears walking down the trail at waterton park. got lucky the fuckers did not see me and my family.
so i can not carry a fire arm with me while hiking in Canada i am wondering how effective bear spray is? i have to fog type that stays in the air like well fog.
anyone have any close encounters with bears when bear spray saved them?
>>1000390
Canadafag here. You can bring guns.
You can scare away a friggen black bear with a stick. Hell, I once told a black bear to fuck off and he did just that. They're more interested in tasty berries than humans anyway. The problem with bear spray is that it can mess you up just as bad as it can mess up the bear, especially if you're using the "Fog type". If you're spraying into the damn wind it's gonna act like seasoning for the bear. How about this, stay out of the bears business and it will stay out of yours. My biggest suggestion is to seal up all your food and keep your cooking quick and simple if you're in a high bear populated area. Bear spray/guns is your last option in all occasions, so be bear aware and avoid meeting one altogether and you will be far better off. Maybe put on one of those bear bells and walk through the forest cursing and singing acdc songs all day long.
in my 21 years of life i have finally researched why the fuck bikes are only able to go forward, however that only planted a new question in my mind.
Why the fuck are bikes set up so that they go forward? i understand the mechanism, but i just dont understand what advantage that gets to direct link between the pedals and the wheel.
you'd understand if you ever had your shoelaces tangled on a fixed speed bike's pedals
>>999322
i dont understand because i was not the retard that would forget to get his shoelaces tangled on the bike.

What are your thoughts on this?
Here's the channel

It's really fucking weird, and there's absolutely no explanation how these people are going missing.
The researcher and author is David Paulides
Here's a talk of his

How do you guys think these people are going missing? Especially in these weird circumstances.
>>>/x/
>>998782
It's not a conspiracy, or paranormal. There's a shit load of evidence, and information available. Maybe you should watch the videos before jumping to conclusions.
That was a good watch, thanks op.
I bet most of them were just swallowed up by the earth. Ever seen the movie 127 hours? A mate of mine fell into a disused well almost 40 years ago and wasn't found for 3 days. Gotta be a nasty way to go. Initially knocked unconscious so unable to ask for help, then in your invisibility, left to dehydrate to death. Nice.
What does /out/ think of Bear Grylls?
I really enjoyed Man vs. Wild as a young lad. Who else did?
I love that show. You just have to understand not to do what he does, because it's really just him bragging about being a sas commando
>>998664
Reminder:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UpSlpvb1is
Never been a big fan of Bear Grylls. He just comes off as the Gordon Ramsay of /out/; over the top and obnoxious. Good for a laugh, but gets stale pretty quickly. I've always been a bigger fan of this chubby Britbong when it comes to outdoors/survival shows.
Who doesn't enjoy a good old ficticious adventure every once in a while?
Some old boxes of stuff had to get cleared out at work, so there was a strategic transfer of equipment to alternate locations, and now I have one of these neat little bivies. It doesn't have a rainfly, though.
What's the best way to set up, say, a USGI poncho as one on this thing?
Tarp as a rain fly?
>>998316
Buy a tarp, just string it over and use your creativity to do it how you like it
Youll need rope.
Or you call the manufacturer and order a new rainfly.
That's a tent ya moron
I am going to climb denali this year?
How do I prepare?
What should I bring?
I paid a $7500 deposit to reserve my spot.
>>997622
>I am going to climb denali this year?
yes. is good
>I paid a $7500 deposit to reserve my spot.
you got good one? close to top? is good.
You have to pay to climb a mountain?
>>997638
Yeah, seriously, wtf?!
And a shit-ton, at that
Can we have a boat thread?
>>997612
I have always wanted a boat and am considering buying one for the first time tomorrow. It's a 25' with cabin for about $6K. I would obviously have it surveyed before purchasing. It'll cost me an additional $2K for dockage and storage each year. Any other thoughts or advice?
>>997612
You mean boatlet thread?
>>997617
How close to the ocean do you live? I honestly can't see the maintenance of an offshore boat being anywhere close to worth the costs unless you will be using it twice or more every month. A good charter outfit will put you on some great fish for about $600/day/person.
