I just bought this 8.5 ft kayak and was wondering if i could use it for the lake. Also wondering if i could fish in it.

I'd imagine very few people here get the chance to visit great beaches given how most of the posters live in landlocked areas.

Post beaches you've visited or plan on visiting within this year.

Pic related is my destination on June, hopefully tropical storms don't start landing yet.

Also went to pic related two weeks ago. The rocky side of the island since the other side was full of people granted it was Easter and that's usually when people take their vacations here in flipland.

I don't know why but I'm so attracted to these places when all they really are are the same looking island with similar looking sand and palm trees.

I guess there's also different underwater wildlife but I'm too scared to go scuba diving thus I end up snorkeling or free diving every time.

Went there a couple years ago and despite beaches being neat and water warm, it is not really worth desu. And I say this as an huge beachfag that is always creating beach threads on /out/.

A small island gets boring really fast, more when there's plenty of foreigners like yourself surrounding you. The dosh that I spent there during one week would have allowed me to travel for a months throughout all Europe or visit SW asia.

It was nice and all but I dun goofed

I'm thinking about starting archery as a hobby, no interest in tournaments, hunting or reenactment and have a few questions.

>How hard is it to learn?
>I'm rather weak, is this a problem?
>I've read about tons of different rule sets, materials and kinds of bows and arrows. Can anyone give a quick overview?
>How expensive is archery as a hobby?
>In case I start for real, any common rookie mistakes I should look out for?

>>
How hard? An afternoon to learn, a lifetime to master.

If you are weak, start doing stretching and exercises that target the arms and back. Plachs, push ups, burpies, pull ups are all good options, as well as squats because everyone should do squats.

Also consider a bow with a low draw weight, 30 or even 20 pounds. If you want to increase the weight later consider a bow with modular limbs.

I bought a samick sage kit with 30# limbs for about $300 and have spent maybe another $100 on arrows because I lose and damage them often, it's a great bow I enjoy shooting it but you could buy a cheaper bow first to see if you like it. You can spend thousands too, if you want.

Wear an arm guard or heavy long sleeved shirt, the arm that holds the bow will get hit by the string and you won't like it one bit.
>>
>>1003350

Sound advice.

Ultimately, being physically weak is not a problem. Just don't fall into the trap of getting more bow than you can handle. You should start at 25# - 30#. Don't move up in weight until you can hold it at full draw for a minute without shaking.

If you learn to scrounge for used gear on Ebay, get an old vintage recurve and learn to setup a lot of things yourself, you'll save a ton of money while you figure out what direction you want to go.

Remember that decent and *consistent* arrows are far more important than the bow when it comes to accuracy. Hand almost any bow to a robot, and it will put every shot through the same hole. Sights, clickers, stabilizers, fancy training wheels with draw let off, and other doo-dads were all developed to compensate for human weakness and inconsistency.

But before you do anything, buy "Shooting the Stickbow: A Practical Approach to Classical Archery" by Anthony Camera. It would be difficult to find a more comprehensive guide than this, on any hobby.
>>
>>1003350
You shouldn't have to were an arm. Either your arm is not in proper position or the string is to long and needs to be shorten. Most likely the latter.

How do you fix this?

Take the string off and start tightening it by twisting it. Then put the string back on. You'll notice the bow will appear to be under more pressure we'll it's do to the fact that you just shorten the string.

Shoot the bow it does hit your arm you're good. If it does, tighten it some more. If it continues to do it then it might be your form.

Seriously a thousand year old book called Arab archery talks about the striking of the forearm. It shouldn't happen.

I used to get slapped all the time now I never get slapped. Arm guards pointless. I'm not sure about it if it's a compound though.

How do you deal with potentially dangerous people on the trail? I own a gun but haven't fired it in like 6 years and don't even remember how to use it anymore.

A couple months ago two girls were murdered on a hiking trail near here. They never found the murderer.

If you kill everyone you see on trail there will be no one to kill you.
>>
Hike with old people and children so the killers will target them instead of you.

Potentially dangerous? Everyone's potentially dangerous. Just don't have anything anybody wants. That or run away.

wild edibles thread.
Anybody have experience eating mayapple apples, "the forbidden fruit"? As I understand it these are toxic except when eaten at the right time of year. My questions are:
>Why does the fruit become less toxic as it matures?
>How do I eat this fruit without killing myself?

>How do I eat this fruit without killing myself?

Don't. Trust me, it doesn't taste that good.
>>
>>1003179
You usually need to put a cage over it to prevent animals from eating them before you can get to them when they are almost ripe. Then you can allow them to ripen fully. They are fine, the worst you can do is eat unripe ones and get a terrible stomach ache and the shits 4 hours later.

They don't taste very good at all, fyi. It isn't like an apple, more like a vegetable. Kind of how a pepper is a fruit, but is a vegetable in culinary terms.

I have one but haven't had a chance to use it much. It's cheap, I say just go for it and try it yourself. Word to the wise: they don't come even close to sharp, so you'll have to sharpen it yourself.

If your wanting a machete, try looking at Condor before you buy anything. Best reasonably priced machetes out there imo.

#150-"True Love" Edition

Previous Thread:
>>1000029

I wanted to do the Springâ„¢ edition of the F&T Secret Santa, possibly making it an Easter basket but forgot all about it. Still tried to come up with an excuse to do it for the new season but so far Zuriss and one anon are the only people who showed interest so I'm not sure it will happen. I guess people just don't have the same holiday spirit of giving in April.

>Look to see the way the tree is would fall if cut. About 5 inches above where you're most comfortable chopping take out a small wedge on the side opposite the direction the tree would fall.. Then tie rope as high as you can on the tree. Then cut on the opposite side of your original cut until you can feel the tree getting ready to fall. Finally you take the rope far away and then tug and give on the rope at the resonance frequency until it falls. That's how I'd do it when I was a kid. I'd use the timbers to dam up streams and make gardens. Felling a tree with an axe is such an intense experience. It's similar with a chainsaw although I'd be more careful not to get it stuck in the tree when it starts to fall.

Help /out/

My city ordinances restrict me from using my new bow (similar to pic related) anywhere in public.
I live in a shitty housing development where I don't have a big enough yard to do it safely at home. There are no archery ranges nearby that I don't have to pay for. I can't go out on my trails or in the park to shoot, so what can I do?

I will not post my store location or anything personal information, this is a professional post. What do you autists carry for defence innawoods? Let's face it, you're all alone out there, you need to have something that's capable of killing pretty much anything that may fuck with you.

I chose a big enough utility knife. I'm way too lazy/poorfag to buy a gun (Canada) and a Ka-Bar short is more than enough to put me on level footing with a black bear. Of course I have a small thing of mace, too.
