Also, anyone else going to World Moot in Iceland this summer?
Will NAMBLA be there?
Not much to contribute, but I went to visit my old troop the other day.
It was sad. I haven't even been away that long, maybe 7 years, but the camp kitchens I built were falling apart, the axes and hatchets I spent entire weekends maintaining were dull as shit.
I wanted to cry. Dunno if I'm gonna go back, it's all so far gone.
>>1013853
That's sad.
Did the leadership change?
First fire in my new house... Honestly I wish it was fall here and not spring so I could get use out of this baby. My landlord is giving me a free cord of wood in exchange for keeping his outbuilding on my electric bill (no heat, just a few lights).
>>1013571
Sounds comfy anon. Where are you? Also, I hope you've seen what's in that outbuilding
>paying the elec for a hydro weed farm in exchange for wood kek
>>1013571
It's spring here in Canada and it's still -15C where I am
>>1013636
> Sounds comfy anon. Where are you? Also, I hope you've seen what's in that outbuilding
I've been in there haha. Landlord is just keeping his camper in there.
So I'm a total n00b and I'm planning to go hitchhiking across southern Europe this June. I have never camped sadly, and don't own a sleeping bag. How hard will it be for me to just sleep in bushes/under bridges; considering that it'll probably be in places with a decent climate (not going to get into the mountains)?
pic unrelated
you underestimate how cold you will be
>Hitchiking across Europe
>Has never camped
I'd recommend going on a few short camps before hand, gradually building up into longer ones. Even if its just a campsite in your hometown or your local woods. You don't want to commit to a trip of that size without some experience under your belt. By doing that, you'll know answers to that sort of thing from your own experience which is far more valuable than anything any of us /out/ists can tell you.

I'm going to be mostly in seaside locations I think, but I'll definitely at least bring a warm blanket. Should I bring anything else?
>>1012873
Of course first hand experience is going to be better than any advice, I was just asking if this seems like something doable to more experiences people; also I'd be very interested in knowing if anyone here's done anything similar
Olympic National Park, more specifically.
A friend and I are planning on heading out tomorrow to camp in Olympic National Park until Saturday.
Any recommendations on where we should camp?
Also share any PNW camping stories.
>>1012492
ru car camping or do you plan to backpack into someplace?
>>1012492
>Olympic National Park, more specifically.
sorry. i was researching there a couple months ago and i couldn't believe how shitty their dispersed camping and campfire rules are. same with north cascades.
>>1012492
Free camping can be had a bit up the lower Hoh road. Camp is on the left and should be empty this time of year. Its just a short drive up to the National Park. Also more camping can be had toward the mouth of the Hoh river by Oil Can.
>>1012619
Dispersed camping always sucks in National Parks. I don't know of any that allow it. Try DNR or BLM land next time and you'll have better luck.
What does /out/ think of AllTrails?
I find them useful for researching new routes, but their aggressive upselling of signing up for an account and the Pro version pisses me off so much that sometimes I rather get my info somewhere else. For example when I click on a related trail in the area it forces me to a sign-up page so I have to google "trail name alltrails" and access it from there.
Does anyone have experience with their app? Is the non-premium version useful at all when there's no reception? I would only really be interested in it for downloading the offline trail maps and other people's routes, but fuck paying $30/year just for that. I could justify $10 maybe.
Does the app actually do anything useful at all without a premium account?
Also how useful is AllTrails outside of US?
>>1012471
>35 cents has beeen deposited to your account
>>1012477
You're my hero, anon.

Please rewrite my post so that I get to ask questions about company X without some retard thinking I'm shilling for the company X. If you can do that I promise I'll delete this thread and re-post with your shill-proof version.
Otherwise either answer my questions or kindly fuck off.
What is the best county in the US to build an offgrid "experimental" community?
I'm thinking of buying a plot of land now until i can move to it to develop on it my entire life.
How hard will this be if im not a degenerate retard? (I'm not)
>>1012300
Taos, NM
>>1012300
maine. if you can build a greenhouse it will be warm all year, plenty of cheap land and low taxes.
>>1012300
You'd probably do very well in some counties in South Mississippi. Lots of cheap land on the outskirts of small towns in case you need help.
I'm not sure how effective a one-person effort would be. What you are describing is why families used to have 12+ kids. Kids were farmhands. Contrary to popular belief, most white southerners were very poor and did not own slaves. So, part of the declining birthrate over the years is that children were not "needed" to help everybody survive.
Pls help me get boots, I'm incredibly indecisive and this is the only thing stopping me from going on 4/5 day hiking trips.
Budget = 100$
Terrain = Scotland(rocky/marsh)
>$100 boots for scotland
Id be asking for advice on waterproof socks and blister prevention if thats your budget buddy
>>1012248
I want to make dun of you. Like how you use american dollars in scotland. Or how you are so poor. Or how you are so retarded you cant buy poverty boots.
But im tired so just buy cheap crap and wander into a bog you sheep rapist brit.
>>1012252
I could probably go up 150$ if need be :/ I'm a pizza delivery guy so money is tight.
Are there any /out/ approved places in New Jersey? Preferably for a long hike or impromptu overnight.
>>1011963
>Are there any /out/ approved places in New Jersey?
No.
>Beaches - crowded, syringes in the sand, and murky bay/ocean water
>Woods - highest population density means you're trespassing no matter what woods you visit, cops regularly patrol the woods on ATVs to arrest and cite folks for anything they can
>Parks - dangerously high tick presence, trash on every trail, geocachers
Unless you're boating NJ sucks for /out/ings, and even then the State police and coast guard patrol and cite anything with a motor for anything they can find, plus the water looks and is dirty.
>>1012325
Also, carry permits are never issued to anyone who isn't Law Enforcement.
>>1011963
Atlanic city is pretty abandoned these days from what i hear
What's the longest that you've been /out/ alone?

Me and my /out/ buddy always make stews or french onion soup with sausage while backpacking. But im getting tired of it, i was thinking of making beans and rice instead. What do you guys cook while in the wilderness?

Dunkin Donuts is great to dive from just go right after they close and enjoy a literal trashbag full of donuts. Result vary from store to store.
Life sucks and is boring as fuck. I want a yacht so I can explore the world and cross oceans and shit. After a couple weeks of research I believe I narrowed down the boat I want to a Nordhavn N52. But it's like $1.3 million. How the fuck does anyone afford this? Any anon out there with experience in the yachting world that can help me out?
fuck you op
go back to wherever you came from
Nice shitpost.

Get a sailboat. You can get one fitted for a comfy global circumnavigation under $60k. Or you can get one for coastal cruising that's like $15-20k.
Post your optics set up, recommend optics to others.
My setup:
> 8x42 Opticron Discovery Binoculars
1.5m close focus range which is great for watch butterflies, also excellent value for money, would recommend highly.
>Belomo x10 Triplet Loupe
Very good hand lens, best one I've owned by far. Excellent for looking at insects.
I have a very cruddy spotting scope currently, if anyone can recommend a good one within the 0-£200 price range I'd appreciate it, am currently poor college fag but I still want to get out and birding.
Generally speaking,, pic related, plus a 50-140mm. If I had the cash I'd like to get their 100-400mm.
I have a pair of binos that I keep in the car, also, but find them redundant when humping a camera too.
I've been closing to buying a monocule a few times tho.
150-600mm
105mm
20mm
Vortex Talon 8x42
Usually not all at once, it's really heavy.
I just got my first pair of binoculars.
40 year old Carl Zeiss Jena 8x30. It's a pretty terrible binocular for /out/ activities since its apparently kinda fragile.
I just can't afford anything new, and it's cool to own something produced in DDR.
I spent an hour watching merchant ships pass through the English channel.
