Does anyone have experience with falconry? I want to start but i don't know if I have enough time. Also any book recommendations?
>>1022058
I'm looking into this too, how loud are kestrel's how much space do they need? Since they are one of the beginner falcons.
>>1022058
>i don't know if I have enough time
I can tell you right now that you don't. Why? Because you said that statement. The correct statement is, "I have free time I'd like to fill...". Either free up your lifestyle or drop the idea.
>>1022058
The big issue is cost. There's licensing, which you have to keep up on. Then you need to build a large outdoor cage (they're not pets), ours was a 5'x5' shed with PVC bar windows. They eat a lot, and only raw meat; you can buy frozen whole pheasant by the case though, they need to be thawed, beheaded, and the craw squeezed out; let me tell you that's a fun chore that'll help traumatize your kids. Then there's the stupid neighbor kid who will inevitably stick his face against the bars and end up with a nasty gash down his cheek, which can also be extremely expensive. And don't forget that if your bird gets loose and lands on a power line, you just committed a felony, or if your bird loses weight, that's also a felony, or if you don't take it hunting enough and it gets weak from the lack of exercise, that's also a felony.
But good luck to you.
So I was supposed to start my 5-day hike on the app trail tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be SHIT. I'm constrained by time so I need to fit something in. Should I do two day hikes nearby while staying at a shelter or just stick to my five day plan despite the overwhelming downpour/lightning forecast?
Any harrowing lightning tales to put the fear of God in me? Any east coast bros braving the downpours?
>>1021235
Obviously, I would be doing a three day hike once the weather clears up (Thursday - Saturday)
>>1021235
Stop being a crusty, roastie vagina and just hike in the rain you sissy. You're more likely to win the lottery twice in a row than you are getting struck by lightning you scaredy cat.
>>1021273
Well goddamn anon. It looks like a perpetual downpour two days straight, I'm not sure I'm up for backpacking 15 miles in torrential rain and pitching a tent twice in a row. I'm fine with hiking in the rain but dragging a 30 pound pack with me isn't ideal. It just sounds shitty. I think I'd rather day hike in the mornings with a light pack and chill at camp during the onslaught.
Am I a roastie vagina? Am I doomed?
Does /out/ get muscle soreness from hiking?
I have done decent distance hikes in the past, +200km, with little to no problem but somehow last week I did a 10km hike with a small cumulative elevation gain, 600m, and my upper leg muscles are really sore. I don't know if it was the casual shoes I was using or improper eating but I fucked up in some way.
>>1020020
My calves and shins will burn for a day or 2 after doing a hike with lots of up and down, haven't ever had my quads or hamstrings burn.
I know that feel anon... went on a one hour walk last saturday and upper legs sore next day. Was not fun to go cycling next day. They have recovered now.
I think you are onto something with the uphill thing. There was lots of up and down in my walk and I think it was the cause of the sore muscles. I have made the decision that I'm on /out/ too much instead of being /out/. Also, I was wearing some boots that I hadn't worn in a long while that gave very good ankle support so it may have worked upper legs more than usual.
Anyways, I just wanted to let you know it's probably no biggy and you should continue enjoying the great /out/doors... see you out there anon.
I used to do about 250-450 m of continuous elevation most days of the week when guiding.
I found that delayed onset of muscle soreness, especially in the calves/ quads certainly comes with walking uphill. As you would expect the heavier your pack the more you feel it. It's the equivalent of doing a bunch of lunges with X amount of weight.
If you hike uphill regularly you will find your body quickly becomes conditioned and you will no longer get DOMS, unless you up the intensity/carried weight/distance.
Stop coming in the woods
What the fuck did you just say to me you little bitch?

Okay guys in my little town inside Ohio we have this beauty that has been rotting behind a for sale house for since I moved here 7 years ago I have been planning on stealing it and moving it into a lockup and make it drivable again (basically build it from the ground up so it can not be tracked if found again) any tips on hiding it and if I can push it into a covered car holder any tips will help. Also it is in a small Alley and I'm not sure if the driveshaft has locked up over sitting for years (country is blocked on /auto)
>beauty
That's a complete POS, I bet the tow truck will cost more than the car itself
Also, wrong board.
>>1024203
What type of car is it? I mean if I can find one for cheap I'd rather do that, and sorry my country is blocked on auto and I'm too lazy to make a account
>>1024199
>i want to commit a felony
>i don't know what the fuck i'm doing
>halp
Don't post this on /diy/. The board you want is >>>/b/
Where did you go /out/ today?
Still at work but when i get off im gonna head down the trail behind my property
>>1023179
State park to fish.
Fishing sucked, everything was coontail and filamentous algae. Managed 3 small bass in 8 hours.
Shitty day outside in the rain all day came home and didn't feel like doing shit
Has /out/ ever been to a castle?
>>1020902
Fuck you
I live in England, so yes.
Hello /out/ I'm a Colorado fag that never actually goes camping because I don't have dICK.
What do I really need to go on a three day backcountry trip and how much will it cost
>>1017338
>how much will it cost

>that hipster faggot pic
yeah, great, if this is your idea of /out/
>>1017338
>What do I really need to go on a three day backcountry trip and how much will it cost
for 3 days you need 3 gallons of water or 1 gallon and a filtering/purifying system and access to treatable water source. you gonna need a good backpack for that.
that is the single most important thing to have. next one would be shelter material for cold and sun exposure which a mylar space blanket could do in a pinch fits in your pocket and all.
he next most important would be some knife. a pocket folder the very least a smallish 3-4" fixed would be best.
then come the convenience items like food, energy snacks, blanket, change of clothes, hat, sunscreen, bandaids, lamp, shovel, cup/canteen, pan/pot and whatever you can come up with that you want to dick around with.
What kind of equipment would I need to go on a walk?
legs and leg accessories
>>1024039
Do you want to walk for a while or be arrested ten minutes into the walk?
>>1024045
why would I be arrested?
Please help me /out/!
I just woke up and found this fucking asshole lonestar tick sucking away on one of my buttocks. I'm freaking out, I hope I don't get that red meat allergy FUCK. Is that guaranteed if you get bit by one pretty much?
pic related (also I'm in maryland).
also, it wasn't engorged at all, so I think I caught it early if that helps? does anyone know?
>>1023686
Enjoy your Lyme disease

You deserved it haha
How long is too long when considering a coat/jacket for /out/?
I have a surplus swiss wool trenchcoat. Fuck the haters.
/Fa/gs probably wear skinny jeans
Anything beyond the knees is too long for my liking, though I guess it really depends on your uses. A longer coat would be ideal for sitting on wet stuff, but would get in the way of anything involving bending over.
Ever worn a capote? Wear it down to your mid calf if you want. Capotes are fucking comfy. You do you anon
Hmm......why aren't tents made of stabproof cloth to prevent people from stabbing through them...hmm
~have fun stabbing through this~
>>1022791
But what about a grenade?
>>1022789
do you own anything that's stab proof?
maybe people want to stab you because of your shit-tier questions?
Brit /out/doorsman here.
I'm looking for a tent for 2 people (3 man, as I want some extra space) for occasional camping.
My budget is up to £50, and I'm thinking of getting the Vangoo Soul 300, which I can get for £42 with a discount code.
Would you recommend it, or perhaps you might have any other suggestions?
Also, would I need any accessories like a ground sheet?
Forgot link to tent, sorry!

Should ask in the gear thread

shit didn't know there is one, sorry I'm new to /out/
What precautions do you take against bears? Is bear spray worth it?
I'm about to start backpacking solo and I live in black bear and cougar territory. Any tips or stories would be appreciated.
>>1021984
I stay away from places they hang out. Like gay bars and /lure/.
>>1021984
I wouldn't worry about it.
