I really want to get a Fiesta ST, 2011 or 2010 in early 2017

How likely am I to find one for less than $10k CAD, preferably with less than 120km?

It's the FWD equivalent to snap oversteer. Kind of exciting when your car tries to kill you.

Hot hatches make a lot of sense. Having something cheap to buy and run with that much space and practicality and, by all accounts in some cases, driving dynamics as near as dammit to bona fide sports cars, seems an ideal solution for an enthusiast living in the real world.

There isn't a single one, though, that leaves me thinking "oh my God, I want that thing in my life". Not one that keeps the practicality intact at least.

Perhaps I'd get that after driving one of the better ones but, I dunno, they just feel like cars you settle for because your lifestyle won't allow for the car you REALLY want.

Saying that, though, there are the de facto homologation specials required by the fwd Nurburgring wars. There's something a bit tasty about the Cupra 280sub8.

I do like the Octavia Vrs. It's such a pragmatic choice, a car for people who enjoy driving for driving's sake, and want something that lets them do that as often as possible without any need to show off about it.

>>
>>14320056

Except that the Ford Fiesta is 197bhp.

Not only that, but a 435lb difference is HUGE. It may not mean that the Fiesta ST is faster in a straight line, but the actual behavior of the car and its response to inputs and the road itself is going to vastly improved due to being lighter weight.

The Octavia RS 230 will have the advantage of maybe a quieter and more stable ride at speed, but it's definitely not going to feel nearly as dynamic.
>>
>>14320101
>197bhp
180, 197 on overboost (about 10 seconds worth at a time)

Thats why in the uk it's the ST180 - makes for slightly cheaper insurance due to being rated at 180 not 197

The normal vRS is also quicker around a track.

Not to mention it out performs and handles the 86 (not hard).
>>
>>14320276
can probably get more out of the engine for cheaper too, especially the diesel
>>
>>14320276
>0.02 faster

The Fiesta ST can gain a stable ~50whp/70tq with the stock turbo, I can't speak for the Skoda.
>>
>>14320294
Speaking as someone who owns one. The 2.0 TSi in the vRS is one of the best engines for modifications I've ever had. It can take pretty much any sort of bolt on upgrade with little to no effort. And the aftermarket parts are cheap and easy to come buy.

I've seen blokes run north of 300hp through the Mk2 versions with relative ease, and fairly cheaply.
>>
>>14320311
It probably uses the Golf GTI engine with a slight detune or something.
>>
>>14320326
Are they FWD or RWD? I can't remember, also do you have the estate or the hatch?
>>
>>14320341
The Octavia is literally a cheaper Golf sedan. The vRS uses the GTI drivetrain. They're FWD.
>>
>>14320341
FWD, and I have the Hatch.

The estate does come with an AWD trim, but it's marketed as the Scout, but has the same engine in top spec as the vRS, just slightly detuned.
>>
>>14318416
Can any car really fly over a legit speed bump at 60 mph without damage?
>>
>>14323293
rally car
>>
I'd take a sub 200hp RWD over a 300hp "hothatch" any fucking day of the week.

FWD is perfectly fine for a DD/grocery getter but a "performance FWD" is just a waste of power and is unnecessary.

A hothatch with a proper AWD system (not FWD biased AWD) like the new Focus or a Subaru whatever is approaching the price range of much better cars which negates the purpose of a hothatch.
>>
>>14323333
ill smoke this guy with my civic anyday of the week
>>
>>14323333
>clearly has never driven a FWD with more than 60kw before

I had a bugeye dc2 Integra back in my younger day with a b18cr with a few very minor mods. mostly stock. had no back seats or carpets or anything. coilovers. that thing used to tear shit up. destroyed so many wrx's and even supercharged v6 commodores etc in it. and I mean destroyed. chop 3rd doing 100 and I'd be hitting vtec harder than your fucken mother. hate on hondas all you want but chopping down a couple gears and roaring out that vtec was so much fun. handled like a gocart too
>>
>>14323744
>>14323818

Doesn't matter how fast it is, It's still a FWD. Being pushed along feels better than being pulled along by the front wheels. It's a feeel thing. Plus have fun not drifting, FWD suadi e-brake drifting gets old after a while.
>>
>>14323910
>What is lift-off oversteer
