my car has made this noise before when turning right, grinding noise. took it to get fixed. now it is making the same noise. what is this piece grinding on my rim? and why did it come back?
>>
That's a tierod. Go take it back and tell them they didn't fix it.
>>
>>14310152
what causes it to do this? if my alignment is off a little will it cause it to do this?
>>
>>14310152

Not a tie rod end. That thing is connected to his strut. Tie rod ends connect to steering knuckles.

Do you have original original or aftermarket rims. Plus those struts aint original. Your car may be sitting to low or needs a alignment.
>>
>>14310160
gah i am not too sure. i bought the car about a year ago and i am not 100% sure on all the work done on the car.
>>
>>14310160

Actually im right. "To much camber bruhh" your wheels are tilting up and towards the engine that shit will fuck shit up. You sure you aint a stance fag?
>>
>>14310166
na they are normal looking haha
>>
Uuuh thats a sway bar end link. you sure the shop didnt just put it on backwards?

Im pretty sure they did. The ball part should eb facing the opposite way its facing now. Easy fix.
>>
>>14310152
>>14310160

Nope

That is a sway bar link end and its fitted incorrectly, the nut should be on the other side.

It is likely on upside down OR both sides are incorrect, the 'ball' end should be on the other side of that tab.
>>
>>14310148
Whot the fuck car is that?

Also looks like someone fucked up the suspension because its all twisted towards the wheel
>>14310175
This Wtf

Shop is idiotic go to a proper shop next time.
>>
fuck man i took it to pepboys. i dont know shit about cars.
>>
>>14310168

Okay so found out if they are the original rim and tires. If not you may need to replace them to stop the problem.

Then for your struts. You can replace them and put on oems. Or alignment place can maybe adjust them for you. That is a big maybe.

And after all that you do need a alignment. So go get your car aligned for safe measure.
>>
>>14310183
Clearly

take it to a tuner shop and just act dumb.

I did and the shop owner took pity and didnt rip me off but its up to the luck of the draw
>>14310184
This i remember if i got the wrong brand of aftermarket shocks they would rub on any wheel wider that Stock like 7" so yeah shit was fucked.

Its why i only buy stock cars that have not been fucked.

Or at least factory sport pack cars so i know it all works
>>
>>14310177
>>14310176

And this do this first. Find out if they fucked up.

>>14310184
then this
>>
>>14310184
they are not org rims and tires. car is an 07 tiburon.
>>
>>14310183

Get it towed back to them at their expense, explain what I said in the post before, make them replace the link end and the rim at their own cost.

Suggest they don't touch cars anymore because that is amature hour shit.
>>
>>14310195

Tiburon....you poor boy.

You may need a plate to extend the wheels out.
>>
>>14310197

I like this guys idea. Then again after-market rims. It may back fire but the problem still persists after they "tried to fix it".
>>
Man just take it back tell them they put it on backwards. End links have nothing to do with steering angle.

In all my years working in the auto field after market rims or not. Ive never seen links rub wheels. Not saying it couldnt happen but, it'd be rare.
>>
>>14310197
This

Take more photos tho
>>14310200
Illegal and also unsafe unless its hub centric and Expensive, cheaper just to replace the front rims with something with a non retarded offset

God i wonder what else is fucked up with ops car
>>14310195
>tiburon
>coilovers
This should have been a instant warning sign.

How long you had the car for and how long since it started making noises?
>>14310206
it can depending on the car
>>
how was it not making noise for a few months and then eventually came back if it was always on backwards?
>>
>>14310208
your suspention is fucked up!

Get a steering/wheel allignment if the shop repairs your 'grinding' noise.

For fuck sake go to a different shop to get the alignment done obviously
>>
>>14310207
test drove the car, made the noise and they "fixed it. made the noise again after a month or two and i said f them and took it to pep boys. problem went away and came back again after awhile, they fixed it AGAIN. now it just started making the noise tonight. i hate life.
>>
>>14310207
Maybe on some high end cars it can. But on an 07 hyundai I dont think so.

Either way the apprentice that did this should have is journeyman inspect all work he puts out if he is getting away with this shit,
>>
>>14310206
>>14310207

Hmmm im actually learning in this board.

Not o.p. But thanks for more info.
>>
>>14310216

Watch it be his tires are just low on air.

Just replace everything
>tire
>rim
>struts

And have pepboys double check there shit
>>
>>14310216
Holy shit just go to a different shop? How much money have they ripped you off?
>>14310217
i had an issue where my allignment kept slipping because i broke the steering rack maybe ob has a similar problem or the anti sway bar is physically slipping left/right and pushing the links out? Weird how its only happening to one side kinda befluddling
>>14310220
Oh mate its a double edge sword the more you know the more you'll want to fix but as i found out theres no point fixing some things within reason (small slow oil leaks in common spots etc) and factory defect stuff (fucking fords)

And silly stuff like my idle dying because my idle dies because i have a aftermarket tune
>>
>>14310205

Doesn't matter about the rims if they fit the link ends like that. Has to be all fixed/replaced.

Unless America is cuckland, down here (Australia) if the workshop fucks something they have to repair it all by law.
>>
>>14310226
they charged me the first time, but fixed it for free when i brought i back.
>>
why the fuck would a sway bar link to the strut. what an idiotic design.
>>
Actually OP please take a picture of the opposite side (Passenger) like you did in the original pic please

>>14310228
Lol good luck a fuckwhits in multiple out of state fucked brakes in both cars (queensland) and me being in nsw didnt have a leg to stand on

Fuck Brisbane
>>14310231
Take pic of other wheel plz
>>14310232
my dunnydoor uses the same design.

On a 1.6tonne v8

it leans like a bitch with a factory upgraded sway bar and all new links and bushings...

>Folden
>>
>>14310233
letme go get it BRB
>>
>>14310238
cheers cunt i just went through all this shit but my cars lowered and i cant work on it atm without a jack but i can still halp
>>
>>14310226

>the more you know the more you wana fix.

Ooo i know that feel. I just do whatever is in my price range and or easy. "not lazy" easy work. If i end up needing to remove a whole front end to get to something fuck that. Have some other pooor sap do that.

And never neglect maintenance. I can tackle a timing job!
>>
>>14310232
Not sure if serious or trolling. A lot of cars have links attacked to struts.

And Op this is something you can easily do yourself. I think hyundai is a 14mm nut.
>>
>>14310233
I just dont understand the thought process. just link it to the control arm a much stronger mounting point, which every car i've owned does. strut cars already suffer from scrub radius issues and they put an end link on the strut. dumb cunts.
>>
>>14310248

17mm on the link ends, 19 on the knuckle nut end, 21 on the bolt end, 21 on the wheel nuts, 10mm holding the wheel speed sensor, 12mm holding the brake line bracket.

Fucking YEARS working for Hyundai.

Tiburon is a cash cow for problems
>>
>>14310251
You would have to completely reconfigure a lot of cars suspension in order to do that. The only actual cars I can think of off the top of my head that have this design would be subarus and older cavaliers. But dont quote me on that.
>>
>>14310255
I Actually enjoy working on Hyundai when they come in the shop. Super easy cars to fix. Parts are plentiful and cheap.

>>
>>14310261

They are simple as fuck to fix, basic issues across the entire range. Things you know to look for on every model, like the drivers side engine mount on the Getz and brake rotors every 30,000KM on the iX35. But fucking god damn does it get old working for a dealer where thats all it is.

Though I'm at Lexus now and even less goes wrong mechanically.
>>
>>14310255
>>14310261

...idk if faith or coincidence.

Hey maybe you guys can help

I have a buddy with a 2003 hyundai accent. Problem is his steering wheel does not tilt. Like there is no handle or switch.

There once was a video on YouTube on how to raise the steering column. But i can't find it. Can you guys help?

wheel of the one grinding
>>
>>14310272
Im in NA never heard of those models of Hyundai. Mostly all I see are accents, elantras, and santa fe's. The odd Tuscon. Often times its mostly bearings and links/bushings here.

Im on the east coast of Canada and those snap rings in the bearings are such a pain sometimes. I end up having to cut them out with the torch 90% of the time.
>>
>>14310274

If there isn't a little pull down tab under the steering column or buttons somewhere then it wont be adjustable. But there really should be a funny locking tab (it will pull down) about 15 to 20cm down the shaft (from the wheel)
>>
>>14310266

>god damnit o.p....

TAKE A PICTURE OF THE OTHER SIDE OF WHEEL. SO WE CAN SEE THE SWAY BAR LINK.
>>
>>14310274
Its probably not adjustable. Accents are on the bottom of the totem pole hyundai wise.

My 07 ranger doesnt even have adjustable steering.
>>
>>14310283

Are you sure skyrine? Okay i will double check tomorrow. I swear i seen a video of a guy same model and year took apart the bottom of the dash and adjusted it.
>>
>>14310282

Two screw drivers, use one to twist one of those snap ring notches inwards towards the bearing centre and the other to pry it upwards.

Keep prying along the ring and it will shoot off and poke your eye out in no time.
>>
>>14310266
You're a mook op. thats the tie rod.
>>
>>14310296
gaaah BRB
>>
>>14310298

Grab us a beer on your way out.

Be all night with this kid xD
>>
>>14310292

Bottom of the dash? fuck no, if they had to pull away trim to adjust it they were modifying it in some way.

Anything that the driver has to interact with is easy to access and simple to use otherwise fuck wits kill themselves trying to get to things.

If you have to remove trim to gain access to something you shouldn't be touching it.
>>
>>14310294
Hah, sometimes it works. Although I have gotten so used to cutting them out I rarely even try to pry them. God dam salt on the roads here in Newfoundland is insane. Plus the salt in the air makes it corrosion heaven.
>>
>>14310313

OHHHH yeah we don't salt anything but our chips down here, that shit would rust to death.

I understand now
>>
>>14310306

Yha. Thats what i was thinking. but the fucker actually took off the plastic bottom panel then then the metal frame. Moved the cables and forget what else. But i was like " Daaamn"!

>>14310320

Yeah, dont touch it. Otherwise a mechanic somewhere somehow will get a photo of the failure and show their mates and we will all laugh.

We all do it.
>>
>>14310319
Ya gotta get real good with easy outs/stud extractors here.

We get mechanics coming from mainland Canada that pretty much have to re learn the trade.
>>
>>14310207
protip-hubcentric rings only help in aligning the wheel during installation the friction of the hub to wheel mounting flange is what holds the wheel on. otherwise it would shear the lugs/bolts the first time you dumped the clutch. they make plastic hubcentric rings. also spacers are legal.
>>
>>14310327

Yha i won't unless i get more info.

Jeezuz fucking christ! Did the caliper ceased and they struck the rotor with a hammer. How the fuck?
>>
>>14310302
lol waiting for op
>>
>>14310333

Yha that was ne about the spacer idea. Is not realy a good idea. But i see mexicans do it and i just shake my head.

Thinking the same thing for this guy who bought the Tiburon. How many more mistakes can we add on.

They hit something, by the damage it was something contrete. There is A LOT more damage but thats the best one visually. Car is pretty much a write off short of 20 to maybe 30 grand worth of work.
>>
>>14310336
From what I can tell it looks like someone put a drum on the front wheels? The rotor face just looks really off.

Im after striking many rotors with hammers and never seen them break like this. Usually the face will be the first to split.

holy fuck i knew it the part of the coilover that attaches the sway bar link to the fucking coil over itself swiveled around on the first pic.

look at how its in a different fucking rotation holy shit

Get rid of those coil overs asap go with normal gas struts!
>>
>>14310358
yep it seems to be rubbing like shit so not only are those coil overs fucking shit fucked but also both front rims totaled and god knows what else

their shit rims anyway

holy fuck how much did op pay for this bucket?
>>
>>14310358
>>14310360
what do the coilovers do?
>>
>>14310352

Thats on backwards too, take off both link ends play around with them until they fit with the nut on the wheel side.

Dont need to support anything, you will be able to flex the sway bar just with your hands.

Tighten nuts as tight as you can with a standard 17mm spanner.
>>
>>14310360

...coil overs coil overs!!!

This nigga dont have coil overs!

Go buy new struts with coil overs
>>
I AINT MADE OF MONEY!

holy fuck whut your right op do you even have springs take photos from the ground up of your front suspention facing the underside of the bonnet
>>
>>14310360

That tab assembly can be rotated, Just need two C spanners of the correct size.

Loosen the top, rotate until parallel with the wheel, tighten it back down with a little lock tight on the thread.
>>
>>14310370

You should not have purchased a car in the first place! You think you just need gas and oil and you are thru. No! Take care od this mess and be safe

I do now but come from shitloads of other manufactures

Engines are bullet proof, suspension isn't a strong point, you cant do good smooth shocks that handle well plus carry the weight so there are a few models that are common to die.

Other than that, bushes in the luxury models but they carry some crazy weight with reclining and massage heated rear seats and stuff.

>>14310471
its actually worse because with that setup the suspention has no travel and the spring just instantly compresses to its max and the car feels like its bottoming out.

Just fucking burn the thing and dont sink money into it.

>>
>>14310471

Its rough because the springs are so short.

You get what you pay for with suspension, When I had my Skyline I had cheap coilovers in it for a while, then bought some for around $1600. They were better but still harsh, I finally dropped close to 5 grand on good Buddy Clubs and they were beautiful BUT everything is harder than stock.
