Its a good basic transportation, just don't expect to make that motor fast, the conrods are thin as Popsicle sticks and the head flows terribly bad. The Ca20 was a motor in the r31 skyline/pintara. It has a "skyline" motor already.

its a wonderful car, its just not exactly sporty. 0-100km was like 8.6 seconds or slower. it only gets around 20mpg in the city and maybe 28 highway on e10 fuels.

The motor is low compression, low stress, and low power per litre. But it will run for years with totally negligent servicing. It needs to be 2 quarts low on oil before the lifters start to tick, it will run over 30 miles with no coolant at all before the idle gets rough. With that motor, it has no real direct competition, everything other than a foxbody 4 banger has more power. Its really just a cool looking dependable economy car. It handles nicely for as much roll as the car has. assuming someone did not replace the front shocks yet with gas charged units, you can refill them with 2.5-5wt fork oil and get a wonderfully soft ride.

If you want a hachi you need to look at a different car. If you want a decently sporty looking 80's subcompact and dont care about the over all speed its a wonderful car.

ive owned three, a 2 litre, a 1.8 turbo and a 3 litre v6. feel free to look up motor trend, auto week or any other period review of the car.

the 3.0 is slower than the 1.8 thanks to it being some 2800lbs versus the turbos 2450

that was for the turbo model. i never saw any official times on the N/A 2 litre single cam but its slower than that. From a dead stop a Prius will hang with and eventually pull away from it. If OP has a california model of the car, then he can deduct roughly 20 HP from the crank output, and he is well into the 10 second 0-60 time.

im not pretending its slow, it really is lackluster as a sporty coupe/3door subcompact. The prelude and the impulse were significantly faster and cheaper back in the day.

the RS-X model and SE-V6 do something in the low 140's. It can be made into a fast car, with work.

I love the s12, ones been my daily driver for about 8 years now. i sold a 69 mustang to get another s12.

I just have no delusions at what is is good at. I'm just not the typical "s-chassis brah! its the best at everything!"

Its an all around bad car for performance. Its rear suspension geometry is totally fucked for doing anything other than keeping it at stock ride height (this is what happens when you design a car around SRA and then half way through design decide to go independent without modifying the uni body). the front end uses mostly rwd maxima parts, and that makes it nearly impossible to fit any bolt on part. you want coil overs? you make your own, or you swap everything over from an S13 (which then fucks with its geometry and you need new lca's it widens the stance so much you have to run stupid levels of camber to get anything but the most crazy fwd offset wheel to fit under the fender..

If op wants the car, its a good car for being a tool to get from a-b in some style. I just don't want him to be deluded into thinking it has the same aftermarket ability of an S13 / AE88. Its a 30 year old car, shit is going to break constantly, just because of age : seals blow, vacuum lines will randomly spring leaks, fuel injectors leak often shooting fuel onto the side of the block... You have to just LOVE the car or have no other options to get it as a DD only car/first car. It will teach you a lot, that is certain.
