Japanese car culture has become a lot more about just doing what you like and being accepting of other people's choices with their vehicle, rather than making it a big dick contest that is often present in American or European car fans. At least in my experience in southern California, this has been the case.

Obviously a lot of people on this board shit talk and stuff, but in person I know that we would all at least be interested in each others cars, if not like them. A lot of my friends have cars that are in bad shape or might be considered a bit ricey, but I feel that it adds a lot of character to the car and reflects the positive and creative personality of the owner. Anyone who wrenches on their own car or takes care of it mechanically garners my appreciation and admiration, regardless of whether I like the car or not.
