What's the consensus on 370z?

i have pic related. Its a great car, but with the stock wheels its lacking. with the bigger ones i have on it sticks to the corners tighter than my e92 m3 and any other car i've ever owned. that being said, its a little bit big (so is the m3 but the visibility in the z is real bad.) and the torque curve is pretty smooth so it doesn't feel very torquey. i have exhaust and test pipes and its almost neck and neck with my m3.

the interior is bad but its put together really well. it makes a really nice sound when you close the door, the indexing windows dont make noise, everything is really solid feeling. thei nterior isn't luxury but its quality. the same can not be said about all hondas, nissans, etc.


if you can get it used its totally worth it, i got mine cheap as fuck with a 4 year warranty.

be aware the model is about to be updated to another Z model in the next year and the prices will probably drop then so you might want to wait.

Status friction is given by coefficient of friction times normal force. Width of tire doesn't change the normal force or the coefficient of friction between the material and the road, so no, bigger tires don't increase grip whatsoever. They do wear slower though.

You're right about everything except the higher grip limit. Two tires of identical coefficient of friction and identical radius and thickness, only differentiated by width, will have the same grip.

I don't know as much about why exactly they wear slower, but it has something to do with the fact that tires wear when a very small amount of the rubber comes off on the road, which is why they lose their tread. So obviously more rubber = longer life

Actually it would increase the coefficient of friction. More surface area => more friction. Try sanding a table with a square meter of sandpaper by hand, then then a square centemeter. Same goes for tires

No, you wouldn't. Surface area has literally nothing to do with coefficient of friction. C_f is determined empirically through testing of materials, it is a set value for any pair of materials regardless of how much you use. The reason you sand faster with more sandpaper is just because it reaches more material at a time, it doesn't mean it sands any more thoroughly.

Look I own a 2012 370z nismo, obviously there are problems like any other car but I really enjoy driving this car everyday. If you do get it though upgrade the nismo suspension to swift springs much more of a smoother ride and a great spring rate. spacers too
