What made the Evolution such a popular car in the mid 00s? Looking at it now, it's just a turbo 4 with AWD that's overpriced and underpowered - the WRX STI is a better car and cheaper, and if you don't care about the AWD you can get way more horses out of a Focus RS or something.

Plus the block is aluminum, so you can't get much out of putting more boost into it...
>>
The Evo was usually faster than the STI, actually, and before 2011 or so they were great bang for your buck.
>>
>>14257984
>popular

>WRX STI

>blows up bone stock or retuned

>2 year old models sell almost as much as new models
>>
>if you don't care about the AWD you can get way more horses out of a Focus RS or something.

since fucking when does a mid 00s focus RS have over 300 horses, or even come close to being as fast around a track as an Evo VIII
>>
>>14257984
OP there's so many wrongs in your post.
>>
>faster around track than an STI
>massive turbo is more fun
>ricaro seats stock because race car bro
>better looking
>more reliable engine

WRX is a better DD since it's more comfy to drive normally, and also more practical. But Evos are breddy gud too.
>>
>>14257984
Because it let people who can't drive RWD platforms good be fast with lolAWD. That's literally the only reason it's popular. Overpriced as fuck because of that. Also, STI isn't a better car, it's worse.

First of all, I'm not saying the Evo is objectively better than the STI because they both have their ups and downs. With that being said - are you fucking retarded? You absolutely cannot get more power out of an STI, a Focus RS, "or something." 4B11s and especially 4G63s are fucking MONSTERS when it comes to making horsepower, that's why there's so many 800+ hp Evos. That's literally their biggest selling point is the ridiculous ease of making power out of them.

That's always been true, so by your logic no one would ever make a sports car. That has nothing to do with Shitsubishi discontinuing it.

It's because they were getting REKT by Subaru and the other cheap hothatches like the Speed3 and Focus ST/RS. No one is going to spend 40 grand on a riced out Lancer when they can spend 28 grand on a Riced out Ford or Mazda and get very similar performance.

My mitsubishi dealership still has 30 2015 models for sale. They have 6 Final editions and they want $48K for them each. They assumed the young guys who bought used Evos when they were 21 would continue buying them into their late 20's/early 30's. They didn't account for changing demographics, and the fact that their Evo also costs nearly 50 grand (instead of 10-15 grand that bought a used one).

I think a lot of people just got sick of them, too. I know I have. Every other car on the road is a fucking Lancer, I'm so goddamn tired of seeing these cars everywhere.

Even if a younger guy could afford to buy/finance one of these, the monthly insurance costs would be goddamn retarded too. Oh, and let's not forget what it costs to do a brake job on a fucking Evo.

They've become financially stagnant and visually unappealing. Especially the interiors, they're complete trash.

Guys in their early 30's working a mid-level office job are the primary drivers of WRX/STIs. They have the capital to buy and maintain one, as well as the unquenched thirst to do something fun with their lives. Sadly, they are cucked into an office building 5-7 days of the week, breaking their balls for the Eternal Jew. The only time spent driving their vehicle is to and from the office. Any additional time with the car is spent getting recall/warranty work done, or cleaning it for their next instagram/imgur photo spread.

It's important to note that none of these "men" know how to drive very well, let alone possess the ability to bring an STI to its limits. It's a badge and an image they're trying to cultivate; look guys, I'm semi-successful but I still like to have fun! The Australian market is so media driven, vw and Mazda are always getting great reviews by Australian media and this has translated into great sales for both, Toyota sells on reputation but I believe that rep is being chipped away by media types who are selling themselves to the highest bidder.

My parents sold their commodore based off the whole media idea that Aus cars are the most expensive to run and are shit quality. The Mazda 3 that replaced it has ended up with higher running cost, fuel cost being almost the same as the commodore, service more expensive and to top it off a tcm dying a few months past warranty. Not if you're running Pirelli ® P-ZERO™ tires.

$48k for FE. They probably don't want to sell them. My local dealer has the FE listed at $37 and boy they can't keep any on their lot for more than a day.

The WRX STi comes with more power stock but the Evo has more potential. You buy an STi if you want to fuck 14-year olds, an Evo if you want to become a Finnish rally champion.

You know, I understand that they had to "tone it down" for the production car because of regulations and things like that, but they really should have kept more of the spirit of the tail end. The production model looks like a fucking corolla.
>>
>>14263974
Everything looks like a Corolla or generic shoe-shaped hatchback these days. I couldn't tell the difference between a Mazda 3 and a 1 series BMW hatch.
>>
>>14258072
Why do rwd people keep trying to paint themselves as underdogs? They're the biggest benchracers

If you want to win, hire a Finn

this is probably really true

Seems to be the case at the engineering company I work at anyways.

Focus STs also.

>Plus the block is aluminum, so you can't get much out of putting more boost into it...
some stock engines with a computer tune and increased boost and compression were able to produce as much as 600 horses if not more
it's not really underpowered considering it can do 0-60 in 5 seconds if not less

What this guy said.

Us slavs are too busy driving cheap old BMWs and VWs and fantasizing about Skylines and Supras

I get there around midnight. They might have cameras and see me maybe but there hasn't been any efforts to keep me off the lot. Usually dealerships Park cars and block the entry ways.

Really, I thought slavs only liked tacky MBs and other assorted fascistmobiles.

>saying shit without owning either

i really like my 08 MR, it's stupid easy to drive, and a lot of fun, cobb's stage 3 is all i feel like it needed over stock

fucking everyone and their grandmother has a wrx or sti, they're boring as hell imo
>>
>>14257984
serious question, I like the look of evo's, but why does everyone complain about their "glass transmission" it kind of put me off wanting one because supposedly it's so common on the cars to replace them.

EVO 5 speed tranny is super tough and reliable.
>>
>>14267176
The 5 speed isn't glass, the MR's dual clutch is. Kind of. The stock clutches can't handle over 350tq and going further the computer will have a hard time understanding what's going on.

The "Legendary" Japanese fighter plane from WWII was the Mitsubishi Zero. We bombed Nagasaki with the nuke because the Mitsubishi Steel and Arms Works factory was there.
>>
>>14267725
Please. I agree that we should have dropped the bombs but that late in the war we had total air power. We were bombing the shit out of them night and day.
>>
>>14267800
The Mitsubishi factory was making more than just zeros, dude. It was vital to the infrastructure of Japan and its military.

that's the wrx and sti you're thinking of.
>>
>>14267176
you're probably thinking of the 6-speed from the Evo 8/9

it's not "glass" like the WRX's 5-speed, but it is weaker than the Evo 5-speeds

No it doesn't, not when they're selling the infinitely more practical and utilitarian ranger.
And don't bother with the pretentious performance falcon utes. Complete with ox cart rear end, yet still limited 550kg payload.
