How the fuck this car is so much fun to drive?
I don't fucking get it.
My friend bought one so i finally had the chance to try it. And holy shit, what a blast it was.
I own bmw e36 320i and it's pretty similar in theory. Not exactly powerful, decently lightweight and great handling. And as much as i hate to admit it had more fun in a miata.
So where's the trick? Could the driving position matter that much?
I can't think of anything else.

the same reason the frs/brz/s2k is so fun
its always more rewarding to drive a slow car near the limit
Slower cars are more fun(take that with or without a grain of salt but every car reviewer has said this) because you drive them closer to their limit, you're not gonna get a m3 or any bmw close to its limit on Americas roads
did you drive it on rectangular murican city "roads"?
go try it on a cury mountain roador similar. this thing really outhandles everything when it comes to corners. it will blast any e36 away
>tfw working out a deal with a guy who has a 96 with only 30k miles
>tfw i'm gonna be paying $7000 for a 20 year old miata
i hope this isn't a mistake
I went on the Nürburgring with an MX-5 as a passenger with a guy who knew what he was doing and this thing handles like nothing else. The only cars who could keep up had at least twice the horsepower or were track cars like an Elise or Caterham.
Yeah its pretty much the drivers that make or break the miata. Drivers who don't know how to carry their momentum well usually don't like them because they don't have any excess power to waste.
My own isn't as tight as it was from the factory 190k later, but it definitely isn't slow either. And the fact that I can completely redo the suspension with poly for $250 is honestly why I bought the car. It's so goddamn cheap to make fast!
just get a really good NA and put this fastback kit ($2000)on it and maybe a lip, people will literally think it's a porsche
the only people who are amazed by miatas are
1. bad drivers who just felt confident in a miata because reputation
2. miata was one of their earliest cars
i've been driving honda for years, i tried a miata out and was thoroughly underwhelmed
was happy to hop back in the civic
Interesting. I've driven stock 6th and 7th gen Civics in every trim level minus the EP3 Si, and they all felt like appliances. Good appliances, but uninvolving nonetheless. I guess they need to be modded.
The B-series engine is just awesome though.
>I've driven stock 6th and 7th gen Civics in every trim level minus the EP3 Si
So you've driven an EM1? Though the 7G's probably felt livelier because they're heaver, and with less compliant suspension...
I dunno, I guess I'm one of those 88-00 Honda shills, I'd never take a 7G over a 6G, I feel dirty thinking about it.
Miata is nothing special if you've ever driven other (and older) roadsters before.
It's great for it's time because it's unique in price, layout, and being a roadster. Other than that it's an updated MG B for the 90's from japan. You could have gotten the same experience plus the excitement of Lucas Electrics for the past 40 years.
I'm glad you think your lack of automotive knowledge constitutes an actual argument, but you're an idiot.
And no, Family Guy is not a source. Why is every Civic driver such a moron
bruh nah dont do it. the only reason to own a miata nowadays is to have something cheap and fun to drive/beat on.
if spending 7k i would hunt down a decent boxster or mr2 spyder.
A civic will wreck a Miata any day, any time and you won't look like a queer driving.
>b-but muuhhhhhh skiiidzzzzz that my hairdresser mobile doesn't even have enough power for!
Lel, kill yourself miatashitter
Shit falls apart on a Miata after 120k, holy fuck have you never owned one?
And to OP: They're not fun. In the slightest. They're fucking tiny shitboxes that only women desire. How do I know? I fell for the meme years ago and wasted $6000 on a 93 with 90k. Drove it for 5 years, every month something would break despite the perfect maintenance records, slow as fuck, light but wasn't impressive in corners, and my buddies 93 Mustang GT out-fucking-maneuvered it despite my 7 years of track day experience.
I sold it, got a Firebird with LS1, never have been happier.
