What are things that instantly disqualify anyone as credible source for automotive information in your eyes?
- calls all 8 cylinder engines V8, even when it is an inline 8 engine
- believes that electric turbo chargers actually do something
- claims to be the biggest fan of a brand but confuses even mainstream known chassis codes of the brand
- doesn't fucking clean their car and rather keep stuffing the interior with air fresheners instead
Well, my gf's mom instantly discredited anything I'll ever say about cars again because she thinks solenoid is pronounced "sill-en-oid"
She was having transmission issues and I was trying to explain a solenoid issue and she kept interrupting me with
>it's actually pronounced sillenoid my ex was a mechanic for 350923850398 years
I ignored it and kept explaining and said it the right way two more times in my explanation and she cut me off and said
>forget it, we'll just take it to someone who knows what they're talking about
That fucking feel
>doesn't know how to shift
Driving auto is fine provided you can operate a manual vehicle too. It never hurts to know how to do something.
>doesn't know what sort of engine an RX-7 or 8 has
I'll settle for "rotary".
>thinks the FR-S/BRZ/86 is fast
muh handling. Looks cool too but all the drivers here are either dumbass Millennials driving up insurance premiums or middle aged men.
>any sort of rice
Most people have never even seen an inline 8 dude. Happens with inline sixes and V6'es though.
Electric turbochargers already work. They're used to reduce lag - but those cheapo electric fans blowing 0.01 PSI intake your intake of course don't do shit.
>clean car + air freshener masterrace
>I didnt know that was a thing s-sorry sempai
>in a ford tempo
>transverse inline 8 in a ford tempo
>people that think FWD can't be good
>this entire board can't get enough of this particular meme and spouts it in literally every thread
WAT shitbox development test mule spotted in the wild
benchracing is killing this board.
even stancefags acknowledge there's more to a car than it's time around some hairpin japanese circuit
>People who think Rotary's are special
>People who think FWD is a sin
>People who think American cars are luxurious.
>People who legitimately think Cadillac or other American "luxury" brands are on a par with the likes of Mercedes or Jaguar.
>"No replacement for displacement" type people.
>"Muh laptimes" type people.
>"Why does it have spoiler if it's FWD" type people.
>eating in your car
It's dangerous and illegal to eat while driving, and when you're stationary you might as well just fucking eat at Hardee's in the first place instead of standing around in the parking lot eating in your car.
>calls all 8 cylinder engines V8, even when it is an inline 8 engine
Your autism is showing. Every single production 8 cylinder engine is a v8 these days.
>calling it an inline 8
its a straight 8 you retard
Whats actually annoying is when people call inline 4s v4s and inline 6s v6s.
Inlines and straights are the exact same thing and the terms have been used interchangably for much of their history. If something like this triggers you I'll have you know that in my first language they're called row engines.
>disqualify anyone as credible source for automotive information
No one thing really, because mistakes happen.
When someone crosses lanes on a blind corner though it disqualifies them as a good driver.
>what's wrong with cold air intakes?
complete waste of money and worse filtration
>the twins are good cars
meh. barely average
>what's wrong with removing badging?
youre not fooling anyone. it's still a shitbox
>finally upgrade from shitbox autotragic ford focus to 2014 Honda Civic manual transmission
>gf's first ride in the car
>"anon where's your prendull?"
>"your prendull, you know, the gear shifter"
> "I don't need good tyres because I don't drive fast"
Emergency stops can happen to anyone, faggot.
> Thinking every tyre that a particular brand makes are all great/shit.
The only way to really compare tyre performance is to compare results with another car that puts a similar amount of weight on it, and uses the same size.
Every been on a severely mudded up road where running off the road = falling down the side of a mountain?
That's a seasonal thing for me and there's only one thing that beats a 4WD in those conditions and it's a FWD.
Before you mindlessly dismiss this, have a think about it. FWD you just "point and click". Point the fronts where you need to go and just floor it. And drive coming from the rear makes it harder for the front to achieve its goal.
It's actually 5 liters and 199 horses or 2.5 liters and 250 horsepower it's great being american and owning more than one "hot hatch"
Butt mad rwdfags detected
>I lost to a honda so all Honda's are shit
>Refers to cars by chassis codes
it's easier than saying 1990-1998 BMW 3 series cars
>removed or added a badge to your car
some cars look nicer with clean surfaces
adding fake badges is dumb
I like having a nice smell in my car
>think mods ad to the value of your car
if done right, performance mods do, like adding a turbo or an engine swap DONE RIGHT can definitely make a car more valuable
>cold air intake
eh, it serves its purpose of giving you 2 extra horsepower, they're actually shown to give extremely small gains.
>financed a used car
sorry I didn't have $20,000 to drop on my dream car, but I had a big down payment and it's paid off now
>the frs/brz is a good car
why do you hate those so much? it's a good platform to make power, and they are really fucking stellar in handling
also they feel really nice to drive
>regularly wear cargo shorts
while cringeworthy, how is that relevant?
>stickers on front or rear windshield
better than putting them on the paint
>majority of knowledge is from forums or youtube
there aren't that many other kinds of places to learn about this kind of stuff. for a backyard mechanic, that's a pretty good start and a great way to first get into cars
all the rest are cancer
That makes me want to storm the beach at Normandy.
>when the fuck do you even see inline 8`s anymore?
>an electric "turbo charger" is actually a supercharger due to the fact that it doesnt run off exhaust gases
>he doesnt have 28 black ice air fresheners around his rear view mirror
Me and my brother have actually started seeing who can get the most on there
Buick actually made one called the fireball or something in the 50s, they dont make i8s anymore because of the relative length of the crank it experienced crank whip and other unpleasantness
Ford had a bunch of crazy concepts in the 80s and 90s. There were plans to make an AWD version of the thunderbird supercoupe. Shit would have been heavy as fuck, but where else could you find a supercharged AWD coupe in the 90s?
"Yo just start on a 600 bro, it'll be fine"
"Just respect the bike man, you'll be fine"
>"Anyone can start on any bike they want if they respect it"
>"just keep it below 8k bro, you'll be fine"
>"Just respect the power bro, it only goes as fast as you tell it to"
>respect the bike
It doesn't matter how respectful you think you'll be, it won't stop you from hamfisting the brakes the first time a soccer mom pulls out in front of you, sending you flying over the handlebars with the bike following suit.
It doesn't matter how respectful you think you'll be, you'll get confident and want to "push your limits" and go fast and suddenly you're going over nine thousand miles an hour into a corner you don't know how to take because you haven't been riding long enough to understand how to corner yet.
Imo anyone who thinks you can learn to ride on a proper sportbike (i.e. an R6/GSXR type bike) is an idiot. Sure, you might do it and be fine, but it doesn't mean it's a good idea, or that you've learned good habits from it.
There are a multitude of bikes out there that are learner friendly, buy one of those, ride it for a year and then get a CBR/GSXR instead, it's what they're for.
How does it feel knowing my 2ltr Skoda is a quicker car than both yours?
How does it feel having to pay several thousand dollars for a decent weekend car? When I can pick up a Miata or an MR2 for like £200?
This man gets it, literally just figured that out the other day taking a high speed turn, I felt like I would lose grip while slowing down on it so I gunned it and it stuck like it was nailed down
You can spout the 'le reddit meme xddd' all you want, but the reality of the matter is someone who is an inexperienced rider starting on something out of the league puts them at a serious risk for becoming a 50ft skid mark on the highway.
Of course, if you wish to feverishly defend such retarded behavior and wish to parktake in it yourself, it's literally no skin off of my nose. But it'll sure be off yours.
I learned on a 750cc, but it was a sports touring and not a proper sports bike. Also, I was scared shitless of it, so I kept it at reasonable speeds, read and watched all I could about riding, and although there were a few close calls, it worked out ok for me.
If it makes more than 70-80hp and/or is a two stroke (ala RGV250, KR1S, TZR250 etc) then it's not suitable imo.
Bikes like the SV650, Ninja 650 (NOT the ZX-6R) and FZ6R/XJ6N are fine.
I have literally done none of that shit, but have taken my car to the track.
I think my WAT and SCCA stickers are above the rules though
