I'm most likely buying pic related this afternoon or else tomorrow morning. A thousand euros. It's gonna be my first car. Engine is DOHC but not totally sure whether 8 or 16v (prob latter).
>50.000 miles if odometer hasn't been rolled
>unlikely since the car looks better than the one in the pic

What am I in for, guise?
>>
>What am I in for, guise?
a cheap RWD car good for another 250k miles of the odo is right.
>>
also, had the 1992 Escort with the 16v 1.8.
it was alright but it consisted more of rust than metal, so first thing I'd do on a mint ford was to look for rust, eliminate it and care about rust prevention.

also, the 1.8 16v didn't fucking like low rev driving. that little shit constantly acted like a bonanza horse when you dared to cruise in lower speeds in 5th. never had that with other cars, so if it's a 1.8 16v ford of that era, I guess it will like to get fucking rev'd like a mad cunt.

it's a 2.0i, so I guess I'll have to redline the fuck out of it. every gear. every drive. nah jk, but it doesn't seem to have any rust. as I said, in person seems better than the one on wikipedia's pic. Ghia model btw. mint interior too. thanks for the rust tip, I'll make sure to do something about it.

>>14236882
>a cheap RWD car good for another 250k miles of the odo is right.
that's what my benis was asking for!
>>
>>14236910
sounds like a solid car then.
2.0 could even be quite different in a positive way compared to the escort 1.8, especially if it's a 8v.

the whole thing might move like a barge but personally I'm more OK with a car that might be slow but likes low rpm cruising than a car that fucking shakes at 1200rpm cruising.

anyway.
sierras are comfy as fuck and I mean it not in a hollow meme way. roomy, airy feeling because of thin pillars and huge windows, and the seats are pretty soft too (but which could be a problem for VERY long rides)

that huge hatch door is also great to transport ELEPHANTS.
>>
>>14236936
>sierras are comfy as fuck and I mean it not in a hollow meme way.
>roomy
yeah it's almost as big as dad's old 3.0 at scorpio. I like that. I'll use it for mid to long trips, mostly. hence my not caring about poor mpgs.
>huge hatch door
yeah I didn't really know, I thought it would look like an Orion from behind, but the door is different.

I just checked and this 2.0 dohc is 8-valve. some say they are less of a problem, but, whatever - I would have preferred the 16v if given the option. can't ask for much more at this price range tho.
>>
>>14237013
yep, 8v are less prone for trouble.

every not-cosworth sierra is quite lethargic anway, almost doesn't matter if 16 or 8v.
>>
>>14236870

Get the tracking done soon. If it's been in a shunt, I remember a lot of these being badly bent in accidents so the tracking couldn't be done. Frames aren't that strong. But, they are OK cars in a lot of ways.

>badly bent in accidents so the tracking couldn't be done. Frames aren't that strong.
I doubt it's seen any accidents, since only the front bumper has a minor crack. that's why I'm taking my dad to drive it today before paying - he had a similar car and should be able to tell me if this one behaves weird on the road.

>>14237045
>every not-cosworth sierra is quite lethargic
well, I wasn't expecting any sort of racecar, just something to practice my driving with, before getting the final driving test done, and then to have something that doesn't suffocate in long distance journeys. I hope the 2-liter engine does enough.
>>
>>14236882
>>14236910

Ford Sierras are front wheel drive, unless its a Cosworth which you won't be finding for a thousand Euros.

Decent enough cars, watch for rust though. If it is a pinto engine they are a bit out dated but the later DOHC ones are good.

Can't go far wrong, good choice.
>>
>>14237170
Pretty sure they're RWD, as that's one of the main reasons they're commonly used as donor cars for a Locost build.

Apologies.

the 2.0 DOHC engine is 8-valve and riddled with problems, such as blown head gaskets and cracked cylinder heads.

the 2.0 OHC EFI engine is better, but older and less common than the DOHC

damn. I had read somewhere that head gaskets are prone to dying on these, and I saw they had changed the thermostat on this one and water had come out of the expansion tank (or whatever you call it), which means I'll have to keep temps on check.

how comes piston heads crack on these?
>>
It's a cheap RWD shitbox, things are bound to go wrong a lot in a car that was never really intended to survive this far.
If you want reliability, I'd give a Volvo a look instead.
Still, it's a decent enough car, slightly more "luxurious" than a Volvo and isn't such a fucking boat. Should be okay with some tender love and care.
>>
>>14237185
they came with one in south afrika, maybe in ausieland too
>>
>>14237285
Then the next question would be, have people done big V8 swaps on these? Would be a pretty hilarious sleeper.
>>
>>14237300
I've seen one with a LS7 thrown in, but it wasn't the 1st gen Sierra, was the later 4 door sedan model.
>>
>>14237347
Neat. I like sleepers and that's about as sleeper as it gets.

Well, I also had this.
Originally a 1.6 litre shitbox, the shitbox was boosted to produce around 400hp or so, at least we got about that much from the bench before the clutch gave up, have no idea how much it produced after the new clutch.

Its name was a pun of the Cosworth and cheap finnish vodka as both are called "kossu" over here. "Kossua Aamiaiseks" means either vodka for breakfast or Cossie for breakfast.
And yes, it did rape Cosworths for breakfast, also some M3's did get baited hard on the highway. The point of that car was to make it look like your typical ricer Sierra, complete with 1.6 Laser badges, rice bodykit and all, but little did they know that we had about 2.5 bar of boost from that 1.6 4 pot mated to a ZF stolen from an M5
>>
>>14237422
It's stories like these that really make me want to buy an Audi 80 with 5 cylinders, Quattro swap it, 20v head, turbocharge it and leave all the stock badges on, then go annoy some BMWs on the Autobahn.
>>
>>14237428
then you find someone with an e36 compact with the 3.2 or the 4.4 v8
>>
>>14237428
Yeah, I started building that fucker when i tried to boost it with stock internals the first time. Thing took about half a bar of boost without much problems, then i swapped the turbo to a bigger one with about 4 or was it 5 bars of boost. It shot the pistons through the oilpan. I got a team of people together to build the "most wicked sick Sierra ever" Pretty much the whole engine was built from ground up. The turbocharger was from a dump truck. Crazy lag, silly boost, insanely fun.
>>
>>14237445
That'd be hilarious, two complete sleepers battling it out. I'd love to just talk to the owner for a bit afterwards.

>>14237454
Sounds like a great time, just hooning the fuck that thing. Sweet project.
>>
>>14237471
It was quite a lot of fun. Sold it to some kid afterwards because the inspection time came around and I couldn't be bothered to start listing all the shit we've changed and done to the engine and car itself so it would pass inspection.
Heard later that the kid who had bought the thing rolled it twice after about 3 days or so of owning it.
>>
>>14237486
>rolled it twice
That's probably the only appropriate way for that thing to go.
>>
>>14237504
I'd rather it explode in a huge nitro/ethanol powered fiery death, much cooler than some kid who just got his license and a car with daddys money roll it into a light post.
>>
>>14236870
the odo is probably on its fifth round, as it only goes up to 99k (5 digits only)
>>
>>14237454
>4 or was it 5 bars of boost
60~70psi? i guess it made stupid power but you were unfortunatly never able to get pictures or dyno it?
>>
>>14237545
Like I said, clutch started slipping at around 400hp then it gave up, replaced the clutch with a stronger one and never bothered to dyno it again because 400 was already enough for that thing.
I could try looking for some old dyno documents, but no promises as I had that thing like 5 years ago.
Found that one pic on my old as fuck phone, didn't even know I had pics of the thing left.

That's cool but yeah anything's possible with money. I know there's a big American car scene there but I'm more asking about the college kid approach. Is acquiring a used one and swapping it in cheap any kind of thing your budget would bear? Because it's the not-bullshit $500 and a weekend swap here in the US.

They'd tax you to shit or something right? Don't get me wrong I think it's awesome that you want a Ford but couldn't you do all this better and cheaper in a BMW or Mercedes or something?

I guess 1000 yurobux is way cheap though.
>>
>>14238294
I'm not OP, but taxes on new cars are pretty fucking crazy in my country. A new Mustang GT costs €110k, for instance.
Honestly if I wanted fairly cheap and relatively easy power I'd go with the Audi 80 idea I described here: >>14237428 because they're pretty common, and can make ridiculous power.
