Has an oil leak somewhere. Top of engine has pools of oil on it.
>>
Op if it runs then you did well

It runs great but I'm worried about the tons of oil on top of the engine. Another problem is I'm in California so I'll have to get it to pass smog and pay a ridiculous amount of money to register it.
>>
>>14225934
>>14225956

That /is/ a bit of oil there anon.
Don't feel bad though, just work through it.

Clean it up and try and get an idea of the rate of the leak, it may have just been spilled there by someone incompetent.

If not, degrease the top of the engine, pull the valve covers and replace the gaskets, they leak often on some cars if they aren't perfect.

Check for fuel leaks too, they like to pool on the manifold also.

Good luck anon. I'm about to do the same on my 350 smallblock, some of the covers just like to leak.
>>
>>14225935
fucked up real bad, but I'm feeling super generous today, where you located, I'll buy it for the $500 and bail you out...

not bad, that looks like the valve cover, rocker boxes or both are leaking, hows the interior?
>>
>>14225927
It's $500 and it runs, sounds good!

You probably have double that in repairs to do to make it solid or some months of on and off work yourself

Could be a fun educational project

That looks like it's in nice condition. I'm jelly, I have a soft spot for boxy 80's sedans.

>ca reg
reg for such an old car should be like $100 or less if it doesn't have any back fees. if you have the vin they have a fee calculator on the dmv website

>ca smog
best time is on a wet day in the morning, less visible smoke which is where they always get old cars that burn oil. my volvo 850 turbo burnt oil from the factory (manual sez check oil every time you fuel up) and some retarded smog guy kept failing me after making my car idle for 30 minutes; granted the first time was for some missing vacuum lines contributing to the smoking which i fixed, but he was so terrible he just kept saying it was the intercooler even though it was warm from driving 30 minutes when I showed up, and then the excessive idle time which would make any 850 smoke. It passed emissions fine, but the smog guy being an idiot really hindered my smog certification for like two weeks and I ended up taking it to another shop that wasn't terrible.
call a place that's well recommended, make an appointment early in the morning and SHOW UP WITH THE CAR ALREADY WARMED so they can just test it and it doesn't sit for longer than the test requires.

Also your car is smogged against a baseline of other cressidas so you should be fine on emissions and the rest of the tests unless you cat is totaled or your fuel or evap system is old or punctured

>oil leak
what >>14226015 said
also could be something super easy like the oil filler cap has a bad gasket or your pcv valve is bad and the extra pressure is forcing oil out of your gaskets. Troubleshoot when in doubt.

You dun good, and those pools mean your cam tower gaskets are gone they're pretty easy and cheap to get I did them on my 87
>>
The cam tower gaskets should be easy to do. Just be gentle removing the intake pipe, it's old. I have an 84 supra with the same engine.

Pretty reliable car, only fix I had to do last year was replacing the fan clutch.

great car, stock engine is great.

dont worry about thsoe leaks, looks like vavle cover.

buy a gasket set, clean shit out. replace worn shit. etc
>>
Save up another $500 and swap an ls in it. It only takes an afternoon.

you fucked up very badly
>>
>>14233100
They're alright if you ignore the drivers door that can't be opened from the inside. Only takes about 2 minutes to crawl out of the car.

>>14231025
I'm moving to Arizona soon. All the oil on the engine should help keep it cool. The only actual problem with the oil is that the smell covers the black ice smell.
>>
Id gladly drop 500 to get my old cressida back

those cars were tanks, and they had no serious problems, I hit a deer at 60 mph, spun me 90 degrees, and the hood was merely dented, the radiator was fine

>>14233489
